Between the goddess like patience of the receptionist when I slept through my alarm yesterday and then was late today and the skill and personality of the stylist Brian, I will gladly come here for all future haircuts. I'm autistic and I have a tendency to talk A LOT and about things most people don't care about. I have pet rats and when I was at the reception desk I noticed that there were clover flowers in the grass in the parking lot and I asked if they could give me a ziplock bag to grab some after my appointment. Not only did the receptionist give me a ziplock bag, but she did it without making me feel like it was a weird request, and she even seemed happy to do so. I went today to Michael to get my hair cut,its been about 2 years since i got a real hair cut cause i hate the way everyone has cut it in the past!!! They yes you to death and then do what they want, Not with Michael he listened to me and gave me the BEAST hair cut ever!!! My hair needed much needed love. I purchased a Groupon from here to get my hair done. Making an appointment was easy. I was able to get the time and day that I wanted without any issues. The salon itself was very clean upon walking in. I was taken right away and was offered water. My stylist was okay. She never introduced herself to me, so I don't know what her name is. However, she asked me what I wanted in regards to color and how much hair I wanted to be cut. While she did listen to what I said, she didn't introduce herself to me. When my hair was all done and brought back to life, she mentioned that my hair color mixture combo order was saved so that when I come back, my combo is already known. I've never experienced something like that before...however that is good to know for future reference so that color matching wouldn't be an issue. read more

I highly recommend Waves Sayville Salon! I have been going to Amanda for several years and she is always patient and understanding! I suffer from autoimmune diseases which unfortunately has an effect on hair and density etc. She strives to recommend what may be best and what to avoid. I have been looking for the right stylist for a long time and I was searching on groupon for a salon that had a coupon for what I wanted to have done. I went in and the staff was very friendly. When I told the front desk that I had a groupon she did not make be feel cheap and roll her eyes at me like other salons have done in the past. My stylist Theresa was the best. She listened to what I wanted to have done and did awesome. My hair needed a lot of work since I have not been in a salon in almost 3 years. I always get my hair cut with Amanda. She's very nice and understands that I get nervous with hair cuts and how much to cut off. She always wants to make sure you leave satisfied and comfortable with your hair cut. For the salon in general, they are great and I'm so happy and thankful that they are very understanding and helping out federal employees, like myself, during this shutdown. Waves is a nice hair salon with friendly front desk staff and awesome stylist that provide a wide range of services. The salons menu includes men's and women's haircuts, updos, color services, foils, perms, straightening treatments, and much more. The salon also has eyebrow and lip wax services as well. Fran is my favorite hair stylist at this location -- full disclosure she's been my stylist for over 10 years. She knows how to create a perfect cut that grows out well. She also keeps up with the latest hair style trends and techniques and makes great hair style suggestions. I have gone to this salon twice, first time was just a haircut that came out great. This second time I had gotten off Groupon a partial highlights coupon. I have not dyed my hair in probably 4 years or more. I had been googling photos of partial highlights and decided the attached photo was what I wanted. Okay great. Now here I am two days later with orange hair the stylist had said my hair is darker but never said I wouldn't be able to achieve this look in one session. If I would have known my hair would turn out brassy I never would have dyed it. Now I am out money and my hair looks terrible. From what I've been told it needed to be toned again. I don't think I'll be coming back for my coloring needs. read more

Last week I went to Waves for my second appointment with Amanda. In the past I've jumped from salon to salon because I was never truly happy with the cuts I'd received. Both of my appointments with Amanda have left me happy and feeling lighter, literally. I am indecisive when it comes to haircuts but I trust Amanda and her opinion and she has not steered me wrong. I was a consistent customer for a few years and then on the one day I had a Company Christmas party I waited for my stylist who was running behind. I inquired about this and was told she was about 15 minutes behind. After 1/2 hour I told them how disappointed I was and that I had to leave because of the party. (Now I had to go home and do my hair and get ready and was running out of time) My hair dresser never came over to me to apologize and no one ever called me (as I requested before I left) THat appointment was December 14th 2018. I called a few months later (last week April 4th 2019) and asked to speak to the owners and was told they would give them my message.(they wouldnt give me the owners names) A week later now and i NEVER received a call back. I will not go back, nor will i recommend. Its really a shame because I liked my stylist. This to me is bad business and I was very disappointed in the way i was treated and totally disregarded. Not the way I expect to be treated as a customer. I even brought another customer to them prior to all of this. Not again! read more

Wow. This place is truly So happy I tried this place. Michael did my hair. He was patient, knowledgeable, attentive & listened to my concerns. For the 1st time in years I felt relaxed & confident enough to let my hair dresser do what he felt was right for my hair. I had a full head of highlights done with a cut & blow out. Michael is awesome!!! But he was busy my last visit so I had Tara. I wanted to use Groupon (cut conditioning blow out $25),but was told it is only for new customers. It states on groupon new customers and returning customers who haven't been at the salon for the past 6 months. Another customer said the girls at the desk aren't honoring Groupon. I was recommended to Fran at Waves in Sayville by my friend Marilyn, who couldn't brag enough about her. So I went to the salon which had such a friendly vibe to it and felt comfortable immediately. Then I met Fran and told her I wanted a short hairdo and she started to cut, and cut and I was so pleased. Then she asked if she could tweak it just a little more and that's when the magic happened! I left with the cutest haircut and I couldn't be more thrilled! Everyday I wake up loving my hair more and more! I've gotten so many compliments on "how much younger I look!" Terrible experience, redeemed my groupon when I got there for highlights. Then was told they were unable to do them, even though the strand test turned out fine. Never had issues in the past with getting highlights. Do to them already redeeming my groupon I didn't want to lose the money, so I asked for a haircut. I had never been to Waves when I booked them for my bridal party hair and make up. Obviously I was a little nervous to go to a place with which I had no experience but it was AMAZING from start to finish! The manager, Emily, was INCREDIBLE. She communicated with me countless times leading up to the appointment - each time she was generous, calming, excited for me, and very patient. She answered all my annoying questions and made me feel confident that I was in the right hands. When we arrived, the front desk staff was helpful and friendly and congratulatory. They acted genuinely excited for us. My sister wanted an old-timey beehive hair style which obviously isn't done every day, but Maureen was unintimidated - she teased and pinned her hair for as long as it took and it came out incredible. Maureen did my hair based on a tiny picture I had on my phone and she made it look beautiful. She even attached flowers I brought with me and they stayed in place all night. Lisa was charming and my bridesmaid had a nice time working with her as well. Many of the other stylists came by to congratulate and compliment us...everyone was just so friendly! And then there was the make up. Michael, Michael, Michael. How can I describe this guy? He is clearly passionate and incredibly knowledgeable about make up. From the very start you know you're in good hands. He has years of experience and immediately made us feel like we could trust how he would make us look. He is an expert in his craft and knew exactly how to smooth out our skin tones and make our eyes looks amazing. Each of us left with a different look that magically matched our personalities even though he didn't know us. But beyond the make up there is the man. Michael is exuberant, hilarious, charming, complimentary, and warm. Because it was my wedding day, I had a lot on my mind, but coming to Waves was exactly what I needed. I had such a blast and was able to relax and stop thinking about wedding planning and instead have a great afternoon with my friends and the staff. Michael immediately became one of us...he laughed and joked and complimented us. We left there feeling like a million dollars and it set the tone for the rest of our awesome day. Going to a brand new salon on such an important day was a risky choice but I really feel like it was fate. Every part of the experience was amazing from start to finish and I can't thank them enough.
