Popped into Waves for the first time after winning a Gift card at a fundraiser. I was immediately impressed with the bright, spacious, open concept of this coffee shop just off Rabbit Hill Road. I was immediately greeted with a smile by friendly staff. I opted to try one of their winter specials - a salted caramel mocha which was pleasantly offered in dark, milk, or white chocolate. Their menu had many options that piqued my interest including oat nog latte, lavender leche, spirulina coconut, and turmeric lattes. My drink was ready quickly ($7.20 for a large) and I sat in the sunshine along a bar window ledge and people watched. Soon the noise level grew too much for me and the coffee shop was only at about 1/2 capacity. So while the tall ceilings and open concept delighted my senses upon entering it wouldn't be a place where I could sit and quietly enjoy a tea and read a book (they do have a bookshelf with a small selection to peruse) or work on homework. I do like how they offer different seating options including bar, chair, small table, and one rather large conference table. I didn't notice any outlets anywhere however which is something I have come to appreciate if meeting clients on the road for a coffee. Stopped here on our Saturday afternoon bike ride for a cold beverage. Nice cold drink menu. I got the Chocolate Frapp-eh. Can choose between dark chocolate, milk or white. I chose dark. It looked like it was dark choc chips + vanilla ice cream (can choose ice cream or yogurt). Was a nice beverage. Dark chocolate wasn't too sweet. Was more frothy than creamy like a milkshake. Nice light drink that didn't feel too "heavy". Boyfriend got the iced latte using coconut milk. He liked it well enough. A few seats outside was nice so we could sit and watch traffic while we enjoyed our drinks. ALSO if you check-in with Yelp a coupon appears offering you a free cookie with purchase over $5! That was a great surprise and the peanut butter cookie was soft, fresh, and delicious. Definitely will be back to try more of their menu! read more

This Canadian based franchise is a lovely place to support. There is lots of free parking and a drive through if you are in a hurry but they have all sorts of yummy options on the menu. The service from the staff was friendly and they get your drinks to you timely. The indoor seating is nice and calm in here with comfortable seats. The outdoor seating is right next to the entry of the plaza so it has a lot of traffic driving by but it's not too bad. Clean on the inside and organized. Having stopped into this cafe there were many things we really enjoyed and a couple things that could be improved. The space was really big which was great to be able to have room for us and not be disruptive to the other people that were studying with our conversation. A nice clean space. It was Toonie Tuesday and they have $2 regular latte's on Tuesdays and Thursday's which is fabulous! The latte's were pretty good, in particular we did try the Rooibos tea latte (which wasn't part of Toonie day) but it was one they best drinks we tried. For a good latte the price is right! We were thoroughly excited by the fact that they had some board games that could be played. No sign out of them was required. They did have Settlers of Catan the card game. We were very eager to live some childhood memories and play Trouble but there were not enough pieces to play. We settled on snakes and ladders. Some more board games and ones that are complete would be my only suggestion. read more

In terms of cafe spots in Southwest Edmonton, Waves Coffee is not entirely bad. This is very close to where I live, so I frequent this particular location very often. However, I would not reccomend bringing friends or family here to talk, it is quaint and not very welcoming to conversation. Upon entry, it is quite disappointing really; Waves Coffee does not have cohesiveness in terms of decoration or atmosphere compared to other cafes -- I would say that it is quite peculiar and dull, lacking in personality. I do feel as though this location in particular could get some maintenance and love in terms of decor and furniture. The tattered chairs and sad excuse for a game lounge is not very appealing. I glanced at the selection of games and cringed. The drink options are good but I would argue that some beverages could have more character in terms of flavour. The prices vary from decent to bad especially in comparison to other cafe locations. I was disappointed to find out that the whipped cream on top costed extra without being notified beforehand. I am very fond of their baked goods, however, it was on the sweeter end but overall they were pretty satisfying. The baristas here are very approachable and nice which is definitely appreciated. They are knowledgeable about the menu -- the first time I visited I asked which beverages were good and the employee gave me some useful recommendations. read more

Great little place out here off of rabbit hill road. A great coffee shop to stop off for some coffee, meet friends or do some quiet reading or blogging. It is also in the same area as XIX and BlissYoga Spa (awesome spa I go to) so it is the perfect place to head to if you need to kill time or want a coffee or a bite to eat. It may not be as fancy as Starbucks but they try their best to give you a good tasting coffee. First time to be here. The inside looks nice. Beautiful wall decor and paintings on the wall. I like the setup of the tables and also they have board and puzzle games to use for free. They also have stole books to read while enjoying your coffee. The volume of the music is a little bit loud for me. I ordered caramel macchiato and it tastes regular. I was VERY disappointed with this place. Their maple latte did not have any hint of maple at all. Their pastries are all frozen and defrost in the fridge right in front of you. When waves opened I was very excited to have somewhere to stop in for a quick bite or a coffee that is so close to my home. My boyfriend and I went for soup and sandwich one time and paid over ten dollars each for cool soup and saran wrapped dry sandwiches. I have done the drive through several times. In the morning they are usually out of breakfast foods and one time I tried the egg salad and was quite grossed out by how creamy sweet mayo flavoured it was. The iced frappechinos are quite nice and I do enjoy the vanilla lattes. Over all the previous review of over priced and underwhelming summed this place up nicely. read more

It's nice to have a range of independent cafes to choose from in the SW part of the city. I came in for a coffee and enjoyed a light roast. It's a clean little place, spacious and bright. It's a little sterile though, in the sense that the decor does not have a lot of character. But the chairs are comfy, and what's great is there is a big table at the back which is great if you need to work, have a meeting or if you want to just hang out and play a board game (they have a nice little collection or board games for the customers). In a complex off Rabbit Hill Road. I have been there a few times to grab a coffee. They have dry through as well as sit in. Big space with room to sit and chat with friends, or work space where you could sit down by yourself and quitely get some work done. They have lattes on sale for 2$ every tues and thurs. I mostly get the Americano. I would have to say that they hype for this place must be over because the few times I have gone it has been just me inside or me and one other soul. You can take that as good or bad. Staff - there was one, both working the drive through and in store cafe. I would say that it is simple with small options for snacks and definitely not as elaborate as Starbucks or Second Cup which is a surprise. I was underwhelmed. So I was so pleasantly surprised when I found this Waves Coffee house that just popped up way down south. And, even happier when I walked in and was chatted up by awesome staff and then presented with a really great double macchiato (my fave!) I will most definitely be returning to grab a much needed pick-me-up when I am out and about in Terwillegar/Windemere. read more

I have been to Waves multiple times and each time I swear it will be the last, my most recent visit was for sure the final one! I am not sure if the owner is absent or what but this store is a mess. Signage still up from christmas (it is now Feb) with an advertisement for a Latte for 2.50 in 3 places in the store but when we ordered it we were told that it no longer is being offered (?) Dirty tables, burnt out lights, sticky floors...sorry Waves, I have tried but I just have to go elsewhere. It's too bad because we were quite excited for this shop to open. read more

This coffee shop is sub-par. I'm surprised it's a franchise because I have no idea what sets them apart from any other coffee shop. This particular location brought potpourri back from the 80's to put on their tables, the internet is shotty, the coffee is average, the atmosphere is uninviting and cold, their washrooms smell like outhouses... they keep track of when it was last cleaned (currently says it was cleaned Sept 4th - today is the 15th of Sept).I question how this place is still in business. It's a nice place, lots of nice furniture, dim lighting to set that cafe atmosphere, and they even have board games, but that's pretty much it. There isn't much you can order. A lot of their stuff is breakfast food and the rest is overpriced for the size. The worst part of my experience was definitely that I ordered a smoothie and it was anything but smooth. The whole time I was chewing on ice. It didn't take long for them to make it and there weren't many other customers so it just kind of showed me that they didn't really care or take the time to give me my money's worth (which was much too expensive for a small, $5) I wanted to get a brownie but it was much too small for $4. I got a nanamio which was actually good it was still pretty expensive for the size. The staff weren't very friendly, they were quite standoff-ish and once again just kind of seemed like they didn't care. I will say thought that while I was putting away my garbage, they offered to take my plate but that's their job anyway. Don't think I'll be back anytime soon unless they expand their menu and work on their customer service. If you're gonna buy overpriced drinks and snacks, you're much better off at Starbucks. read more

Worst coffee ever tasted! Im not a picky coffee drinker. I like Starbucks, second cup, Tim Hortons and coffees from other non-franchise cafes. Even for instant coffees, I wont complain of bad taste. But I could not finish their coffee. Their large is second cup or starbuck's medium with similar price. Their tea latte was bland and less than mediocre. Service is usually never there.
