My children are challenged academically and they are nurtured spiritually. I am impressed with the strong moral foundation and the values instilled in each class, from the Pre-K through the 8th-grade, and I love that the focus on S.T.E.M. and technology development does not come at the expense of a classical liberal arts education. My kids develop strong reading and writing skills and participate in an arts program that is head and shoulders above what the public schools offer. We are not a wealthy family, but thanks to generous financial aid we are able to give our children this experience. Highly recommend!

But the cafeteria staff on the other hand is horrible. In 2013 we found out my son is allergic to milk not lactose intolerant but allergic to milk. I filled out the paper work all is well. But my son has stomach aches, throwing up and was admitted in the hospital. I go to the school put money in his account and tell the lunch attendant he can not have milk is that in his account she says yes. 2014 I go to have lunch with my son,why does my son have pizza? I go to the lunch attendant at the register and tell her about him being allergic to milk again. My son barley eats cafeteria lunch he packs but once in awhile he wants to buy lunch and he should be able to. Today I decide to go have lunch with my son and guess what he brings to the lunch table pizza! I was beside myself I go to the lunch attendant she apologizes and says she saw the allergy pop up but he picked pizza wth he is 7yrs old. I go to the office talk to someone in the office she emails the person in charge of updating kids allergies, walks to the cafeteria with me we look up my sons lunch account and it says allergic to milk, yogurt. The lady in the office was truly worried and did what she could do asap she even left my contact info so I could be contacted. I received a call from the lady who updates our children's Allergies and She doesn't seem to realize how important this is my son was in the hospital. His organs were enlarged , they could of shut down. All she can say to me is get a doctors note, why wasn't I informed about this in 2013 it's 2015 lady. I ask for the information of the person above her she goes right pass that by apologizing. I don't want apologies I'm past that point I want results. I have so many Dr bills from blood test just to be told it's because he is digesting milk somehow. Yeah he was digesting milk at school. I trust these people with my child and what does the cafeteria attendant do who see"s the screen that says allergic to milk, yogurt she lets him get pizza. Not once,not twice three times. I'm not stating anyone's name because they have a right to privacy but I'm defiantly upset I've been more that nice this is serious this is my child's life. I'm giving one star because of the cafeteria and their incompetence behavior. This is not a reflection of the school and office staff they are wonderful.

Communication with parents ranges from poor and ineffective to completely absent. They keep making changes without informing parents, including a sudden change to the daily schedule, and when concerns are raised, admin dismisses them. I am so disappointed that I brought my children here for this school year.

In…read moreMD any school that claims to be Montessori has to be approved by the state and has to have at least one Montessori-trained teacher. However, I have heard parents complain sending kids to Montessori is a waste of money because it's just a name to sell the school. So, not all state-approved Montessori programs have good quality of education. So being aware not all schools are the same, I toured 3 Montessori schools: Lone Oak, Manor and the Woods Academy. I found the Lone Oak Montessori on AMI website and Woods academy on AMS website. Manor was recommended by other parents and it seems to be a popular choice when it comes to Montessori preschools in Bethesda area. I took my 3-year-old son with me to all the tours and he loved the Woods the best because we were allowed to walk into the classroom and had very brief interactions with the students and teachers, to observe and also play some toys in the classroom while parents were talking to the director, Mrs. Gerber- who is very knowledgeable and experienced about Montessori programs and part of the reason we chose Montessori is because of her expertise and experience. After the tour, my son wanted to go back the next day because the classroom was just so fun and interesting for little kids. My son is happy every day and cannot wait to tell me what he learned in school. The teachers encourage independence, good manners, trying new things/food, healthy snacks, and creativity. They are caring and loving but also very firm when giving instructions. My son learns new things/facts each day and not just merely playing with expensive toys. For instance, he came home one day start singing "The family of the Sun," and talked about all the facts he learned about planets and I was amazed. And three weeks later, he started to learn the sounds of alphabets and try to read! The teacher told me she would advance any student if s/he is ready so there is no need to wait till 4 or 5 to learn how to read. The other pluses but not major factors are- 1) facility, it's a school so it has it's own gym, music/art classrooms, library, and playground. It's very spacious, clean and well-maintained. 2) it has PE, music and art classes once a week for 30 minutes. The school has a very strong art program. 3) faculty and staff are very friendly and they know student by names. I felt that students are given a lot of attention because of its small classroom size. The only downside is the tuition. It is about $2K more than other schools I checked/toured. We've been happy with our choice and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good preschool in Bethesda. We have been pleased to see how our son has blossomed since starting there! He immediately started to impress us at home with what he has learned at the Garden of Learning, while having fun and building his social skills with the other children at the school. As a bonus, our child gets to engage with nature in an amazing outdoor area. Our six-year old also spent the summer there and loved her time there as well. She really enjoyed the crafts and field trips they took. Scotia and her team provide a learning environment which is kind, safe, and fosters curiosity and a sense of connection to nature and each other.
