We had a couple years of positive experiences but something has changed dramatically recently. I…read morecould detail my many minor frustrations with the lack of communication and what seems to be intentional deceit with moving students between classes without notifying parents, but I feel the two major incidents that caused us to leave will speak for themselves: In the last week and a half my daughter was first directly given a known allergen by a staff member, causing an ER visit and extremely stressful day for my whole family. To be clear, this was not an accidental exposure - she was handed a cup of milk despite having a well-documented allergy to milk. Yesterday, my daughter was sent home with dried feces caked on the back of her shirt from a BM that occurred at 10 AM. She was walking around all day with a significant amount of feces on her. Based on the fingerprints and smudges she was touching it frequently, so it is fair to assume that everything she touched and even the other children she interacted with were exposed to the potential bacteria and illnesses known to be in feces. When I called to address both issues their response essentially amounted to 'mistakes happen.' Obviously this was extremely upsetting given these two incidents so close together, which clearly indicates a larger issue. After a tense but professional phone call with the owner I was told my daughter was no longer allowed to attend, effective immediately. Luckily we were already making plans since we didn't feel she was safe there anyway, but I was still appalled that rather than bear responsibility they chose to dismiss it. I am truly fearful for every student in that center. I don't know what it is happening but there is a clear lack of appropriate management and it is putting kids' well being at risk.

Every day, she surprises us with how much she's learned: letters, words (English, Spanish, and sign language), colors, animals- and she genuinely enjoys it. Sometimes, I have to work to entice her to leave! As two working parents with often opposing schedules, the on site chef is a major convenience as it leaves one less thing for us to worry about. The staff is warm, patient, kind, fun, and engage the kids in a variety of activities to keep them learning and having fun. They readily chat with me about her day and answer any questions I may have. I get daily reports about what she's learning, eating, dsiaper changes and potty training, naps, and loads of fun pictures! She's not always an angel and they apply patience, thoughtful boundaries, and kindness in helping her learn the appropriate behaviors. I had to chime in and improve the rating as one person had a different experience eight years ago and gave one star, but we truly value this business and wanted to share our experience.

From the caring…read moreteachers to the welcoming atmosphere, it is clear that the staff genuinely care about the children and want them to succeed. The teachers are patient, attentive, and truly take the time to get to know each child. Our child has grown so much socially, emotionally, and academically, and we have been so impressed with the learning experiences and preparation for the next stage of school. We also really appreciate the communication with families. Being able to receive updates throughout the day gives us such peace of mind and makes us feel connected to our child's experience even when we can't be there. Most importantly, our child is HAPPY to go to school! Seeing them excited to see their teachers and friends each morning means everything. La Petite Himes Avenue has created a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can learn, grow, and feel loved. We are so grateful to the entire Himes Avenue team and would absolutely recommend this school to families looking for quality childcare and early education in Frederick!

As a grandparent picking up my grandson there I would say the teaching staff was always lovely. I…read morewill also say to their detriment is that La Petite is concerned about their money first and foremost . My daughter gave a full time tuition. They made her sign a paper stating when the child would be dropped off/ picked up even though her work schedule was variable weekly ... and they knew that. If she arrived later than the time they made her state then they wouldn't allowy grandson to attend that day.,. Even though they received full time tuition. I quickly leadned that they did that to observe only necessary teacher - student ratios to pay the least hourly teacher wages possible. Also, many times at the end of the day, your child would be in another classroom because they had already sent your child's classroom teacher home and put them with another teacher until uou arrived .... Also to save them money. Management seems nice but is not transparent at ALL. Be wary. Get what you pay for and be sure to ask about full time tuition and open hours . Bonus : They also like to send kids home for any health reason they can imagine.

She has made great progress in learning how different things work, cultures throughout the world, fine motor skills, interacting with others, gardening, and science. The montessori method has really worked for her education. Every few weeks the school focuses on a different continent. While learning about Africa, the students made African food, learned about African music, and the animals that are indiginous to Africa. Every day my daughter was excited to tell me something new about Africa. Now she knows all of her continents at the age of 3 which blows my mind. In addition to Ms. Gretchens great curriculum, there's a lot of learning about nature and outdoor play time. Ms. Gretchen has an excellent garden where the kids have planted tomatoes, eggplants, squash, basil, potatoes, sunflowers, and onions and the list keeps going on. Ms. Gretchen has a policy of following what the kids wnat to do and not forcing them to do and letting them learn as they go. First thing when my daughter arrives she usually wants to go play on the swing or look at the flowers or play on the jungle gym to which Ms. Gretchen always says, "Yes". I really cannot say what a wonderful experience it has been for my daughter to attend pre-school at Ms. Gretchens'. There is no doubt in my mind about what a nurturing environment my daughter is in.

From our first contact with the owner, Mrs. Shazia, we knew this was the preschool of choice for our family. Our son had been attending another preschool the prior year and while he enjoyed it, as did we, he would come home sick every other week. We could barely keep up with all the illness. With a new baby on the way, we could not take a chance with unnecessary sicknesses. We expressed our concerns and how important the sanitary conditions of the preschool was to us and the owner assured us her school was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each school day. Needless to say, our son has yet to catch anything and it is clear that Miss Shazia and her assistant take the kids health very seriously. Aside from this, her curriculum is top notch and my son has learned a great deal while attending. He comes home each day with schoolwork and crafts he has completed throughout the day. The activities Miss Shazia puts together for her class are fun and they inspire creativity. During each day, we get pictures and texts detailing how our son spent his day. It brings my husband and I such peace of mind having our son attend this preschool. Miss Shazia and her assistant are truly invested in the preschool and in the children that attend it.
