Both Adele and Marcia are great teachers. Adele's vinyasa classes draw from her Ashtanga experience and they are as strenuous or awareness inducing as you want to make them. Her classes are multi-level as she she offers & demos various levels of an asana family for people that want to try a variation which is harder or just different ... Her adjustments reveal many years of experience and caring. Her short traditional spiritual music chanting at the end of the savasana is a lovely way to reenter the world with your yoga brain and heart intact. Marcia's yin class was great - a mix of slow long-held poses followed by a supremely restful savasana ... showing her years of experience at crafting a great class experience.

Adele is well known with a good following. This can make for a lot of chatting pre class. My preference is to enter a yoga studio with quiet. There is traffic noise from Main St. and the studio can seem small at times when more than a dozen show up. Class schedules allow for ease of parking in the back lot by the river. Convenient location in downtown Damariscotta. It's rather odd being upstairs over a fish market, butcher shop and next to a medical marijuana dispensary, but the shops are immaculate without odor. All in all in all the various noise is what helps one's determination to find focus in ones intention and breathing.

A chilly Saturday afternoon was perfect for stepping through this yoga studio's door. The lobby area was clean and well organized. Coat hooks and cubbies for belongings, curtained off changing stalls and benches for readying for practice, and items for sale for any level yogi. The woman running the workshop was friendly and remembered my name from the facebook event page. Oddly enough this was comforting to know that she wanted to put faces and names together. I had done all the paperwork and payment online so she invited me to settle in where I felt comfortable. I found my spot near a wall located near the exit (I don't like he feeling of being surrounded) and made myself comfortable. I listened to the many people that were chatting and milling about. All runners of course, of all levels. I have always found comfort and familiarity with this clan of people, being brought up in a family that all ran and a dad that did marathons. What a great way to keep connections open during the cold months as a runner. As people settled in and squished in, the yoga instructor introduced herself and encouraged questions during the two hour workshop. She stated it would not be very "zen" as this was a time to explore how to help each person with their running and stretching. Yoga began and it was pretty apparent by the grunts and questions that their were many non-yogis present, but all were and felt welcomed to share this experience. As a group we learned many stretches we didn't realize was important to running nor did I know they existed. I found the two hours to fly by due to how intriguing and new a lot of it was. I again will say I look forward to going to some of their regular classes and maybe another workshop. The woman running this workshop was very knowledgable about all that we did and would use many stretches as a time to educate us on the stretch and how it affects us. I only hesitate on the workshop due to the amount of people she let join this workshop. She capped it at 25 I believe and this room just was not meant for that many. Maybe 20? I did a few stretches half way due to having to squish up to the wall and having a lady's mat around 6 inches from mine. At one point when doing a floor stretch, her leg hovered over my shoulder while I was laying down. Too close for comfort I will say.

The studio is located near Bow Street Market in Freeport, with plenty of parking. There is an extensive schedule with plenty of class options to fit your needs, and the classes are clearly labelled with useful descriptions to help you choose the best fit for you. Terry the owner is an excellent instructor, and I always learn something new in her classes. Great queuing, plenty of modifications offered both up and down, and an all around great community vibe. She is also a runner and offers runner specific classes. Well worth the drive up from Portland, or down from the coast. Easily the best yoga studio I've found in Southern Maine.

We knew we'd be hiking all day (and had a heavy dinner planned) so we stopped at Earth and Flow to pick up some lighter bites. This was around 10am on a Thursday, and we were the only customers. It took about 45 minutes to get our food (no other customers ever came in; it didn't appear they were making any to-go orders). There were two employees that day, one who was making our order and one who was on her phone. We got: 1. Tara's Peanut Butter Heaven smoothie (banana, peanut butter, chocolate, almond milk) and the Tropical Storm smoothie (mango, pineapple, strawberry, orange juice, coconut milk, almond milk): I don't know how this is possible - maybe they were made in the same blender? - but these tasted identical. They were also liquidy. Personally, I prefer my smoothies so thick it's hard to suck through a straw. 2. the Thai wrap (almond-ginger pate, lettuce, mango, red pepper, cabbage, basil, mint, cilantro, ginger almond dipping sauce): this was okay - there was *a lot* of mint stems - but the ginger almond dipping sauce tasted purely of soy sauce - way, way too salty for me. 3. the Sun Tuna wrap (tuna salad made from sunflower seeds, not fish, combined with lemon, Bragg's amino acids, celery, pickles, and romaine lettuce): my favorite of the three! Such a unique take on a vegan tuna, but the celery was literally long uncut stalks. 4. the Sante Fe wrap (cashews, lemon, parsley, cayenne pepper, vegan mayonnaise, black beans and avocado): my partner's favorite of the three, but I found it bland, also there was no avocado and LOTS of romaine... which isn't an ingredient in this wrap. ^ I appreciated that all three wraps came on a bed of lettuce, because the wrap itself was *so* stiff and gummy in texture that we ended up dumping the interior onto the greens and eating it salad style. 5. Earthy Delights (4 Medjool dates stuffed with almond butter, cardamom, and ginger): the BEST thing we got were these stuffed dates. The combination of the rich almond butter, earthy cardamom, and spicy ginger were unlike anything I've had in recent memory. Do not miss out on these! For me, this missed the mark. But it's fantastic that an option like this exists in Rockland.

Whether you're an avid yoga practitioner or have been contemplating trying yoga for the first time, it's an absolute must. My only warning is that you'll be hard pressed to find a better experience once you step foot in the studio. I started practicing with the founders, Jeri Wilson and Susan Golden, more than 10 years ago when I was 16. Both continue to teach at the studio even though it recently changed hands and is now owned by Kathleen Haberstock. But I have to say, Jeri and Susan spoiled me and my yoga experience for the rest of my life. I've lived in big cities from the east coast to the west and I still come back to the joy of these teachers and this studio. This place is truly a community. From the teachers who lead classes to the students who take the time out of their day to practice with one another in this space, it feels like coming home whenever I take a class. There is an abundance of teaching styles and multiple class levels so it's always easy to find something that fits what you need and where you are in your life and your physical ability. They offer events and teacher trainings and host teachers from other studios who bring something different to the table and allow this small community to experience world-class talent. If you're reading this and just discovering School Street Yoga for the first time, I urge you to take a class and see how lucky Waterville is to have a studio of this caliber. And if you're reading this and you already know what I'm talking about, this is your friendly reminder to return to the studio and your practice. You won't regret it.
