I…read morewas a little bummed since I assumed we'd have to return the boat each evening until I found out that we'd be able to keep the boat overnight since we had access to a boat dock. That instantly changed my mood about the weekend. When we picked it up on Saturday morning, we kept getting a warning tone coming from the boat. All gauges read normal, so we called and brought it back. Turns out the power steering fluid was low. Jerry and Jay got us patched up and on our way in less than 15 minutes. I didn't feel inconvenienced, but Jay let us return the boat Monday morning since we had to come back in. The great service and "Alright Alright Alright" attitude really set the tone for a great and memorable weekend.

We had my son's birthday party here, and it was a great location for that many teenagers to go…read morerelax, be goofy, and celebrate. The owner and staff were friendly and the party package was way more reasonable that the other bowling alleys around in the other cities nearby. The bowling league was sweet next to us, and politely gave the boys tips to improve their game. It is a classic alley without any pomp and circumstance. Just good, traditional bowling fun. Lord willing, we'll be back.

Bowlers bringing their own equipment should know about our experience…read more Our bowling ball sustained extensive gouging while we were bowling here, as shown in the attached photo. The staff mechanic dismissed it as "normal lane wear" and pointed to a sign stating they were not responsible for damaged bowling balls. In my opinion, the damage pictured goes well beyond reasonable wear from normal bowling. The manager eventually agreed to replace the ball, which we appreciated, and suggested having it drilled elsewhere. However, when we went to collect the replacement, the pro shop refused to release it unless we surrendered the damaged ball. We explained that the shop drilling the replacement would need the original to copy its layout. Staff suggested taking a picture and would not release the new ball otherwise. What should have been a straightforward effort to resolve the damage became a three-way disagreement between us, the bowling alley, and its pro shop. At this point, the replacement simply is not worth the aggravation. They can keep the new ball. We will purchase our own replacement and will not return to this venue. If you plan to bowl here with your own equipment, I strongly suggest photographing its condition beforehand and getting a clear explanation of how damage claims, replacement, and drilling costs are handled. Based on our experience, getting a problem resolved can be more frustrating than the damage itself.

We came out here a couple of times for a day trip in celebration of my husband's upcoming birthday…read more That's right, I married a camper and all the things that go with that. My initial reaction to this park was that it was small for a state park and had limited fishing spots. From our first visit, I saw one stream and a very small lake near the park store where you check in. They have primitive, tent and cabin camping sites. The cabins range $40-45 a night and have heat/air and bunk beds. You provide your own linens and everything else. Tent camping starts at $20 a night. This location does a pretty good job with the spread out of the restrooms. They have plenty of picnic tables and a pavilion for grilling and coming for the day. On the second day, I realized that there was a satellite location only about 3 miles away off Bowie that is still part of the park. Lost Creek Reservoir has a substantial amount of fishing and about 10 sites. This discovery pushed it to 5 stars for me. The real draw to this location is the historical value and activities. Fort Richardson was in operation from 1867-1878. They have preserved the hospital, one of the barracks and officer quarters and still have the bakery and magazine standing. They have an introductory building with some displays and information and restrooms. At that point you can do a self guided tour or a walking tour. As far as prices go, I think park entry was $3 per person, but I am not positive. We have the annual park pass, so we get in free for us and anyone in our vehicle. However, that price is cheaper than other state parks. The state pass will also get you a discount on the second night of camping. There is a separate fee at the fort. There was a reenactment event going on this weekend and the fees were $1-$2 per person based on the activity that day. For example, on Friday they weren't doing the main battle, just a skirmish and firing the cannons on the hour. They had actors in period dress talking about various aspects of the era and vendors selling merchandise and concessions. On this day it was $1. On Saturday they were doing the main battle and so they charged $2. Overall a great deal for a family friendly activity. We enjoyed both of our trips out there and the staff was great. I also discovered it was a few blocks from Herd's Burgers so I no longer need any convincing to come out to Jacksboro. I do like that this park isn't as crowded as others despite its small size. A great place for a day trip with the option of fishing and camping as well. Check it out!

Great Stay at Fort Richardson State Park and Historic Site…read moreWe had a wonderful time at Fort Richardson State Park and Historic Site. We stayed at Site #6, which was clean, level, and easy to access. The park itself is peaceful, well maintained, and full of history, with plenty of areas to explore and learn from. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the historic buildings added a unique touch to the visit. A great place to camp, hike, and experience a bit of Texas history -- we'll definitely be back!

So I've heard people talk about fishing at the "crappie house" here in Graham (Lake Eddelman), but…read morecould never find information on what, how & why, so here goes... This place lies about 2 miles from town (reference point is North side Allsup's) off Hwy 380 going towards Newcastle, off of Hot Point Loop Rd. Once on Hot Point Loop, you'll take a dirt road for about 4 or 5 minutes to your destination. Basically a floating barge you can fish from both inside and outside. A valid fishing license is required. Bait is sold here (minnows are $3/dozen), as well are snacks and fishing equipment rentals. Folding chairs are available but not the most comfortable. As you arrive, there's an "honor system" box located before the ramp to the dock (I found out you can also pay the attendant inside the facility). Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children. An attendant is on site whenever they're open. There are metal rails all around the outside, and inside as well, with occasional rod holders welded into the angle iron rails. The interior fishing area has an estimated 10' x 20' opening. As for restroom facilities, if you're squeamish, you'd better use a restroom before you come out. The only thing on site is an outhouse, which I didn't even dare venture into. I'm giving this 3 stars because it could use updating and some renovations (occasional broken deck boards can be a hazard). Otherwise, the convenience of having a place like this available to the public for those that can't afford their own boat, is awesome. Fishing was a little slow for me this day (windy, and I caught 5 crappie and 1 catfish, all on live minnows), but it's nice if you want to get away and relax. More info is available on their Facebook page (Dad's Crappie House). Come chec

I volunteered as a summer camp counselor at Camp Grady Spruce this year, and I have nothing but…read moregreat things to say about it. The kids, the counselors, the instructors, and our other camp staff all had a fantastic time and left with huge smiles on their faces. We can't wait to go back again next summer. The YMCA staff has the entire camp operating like a well-oiled machine. I would say they have all their ducks in a row, but that would be too literal, since there really were ducks waiting outside the dining hall every morning, hoping for the kids to throw them some food. From the kitchen staff, to the lifeguards, to the activity instructors, everyone was on the ball and did their best to make sure the campers ate well, stayed safe, and had fun. The camp facilities were great too. This is the first camp I've been to where the cabins have air conditioning, and now I wonder how any camp in Texas gets by without it. It's SO NICE to be able to go inside and cool down after a long hike or horseback ride. And sleeping without A/C is no fun at all. Speaking of which, the bunks were actually really comfortable too. The cabins also have indoor bathrooms and showers, as opposed to other camps that have separated showers/bathrooms that are shared by multiple cabins. Again, this is a really nice luxury. The dining hall here is enormous, and all the tables quickly and easily fold up and out of the way to make room for indoor activities. Our campers had crafts and games in there every day, and we held our camp dance there as well. Looking forward to many more summers at Camp Grady Spruce!
