It is easy to use this shuttle-service on the Brazos River below the Pissum Kingdom Dam! Rent canoes or kayaks if you don't have your own gear. If you do have everything you need; this is the best place to leave your vehicle for overnight river trips. There are 20 miles of beautiful scenery (and fishing opportunities) from the launch below the PK dam - to this takeout point. Wild tirkeys walked right beside us, while turtles and hawks ignored us. You may see wild animals, and you will certainly see gorgeous cluffs and vistas - but you won't find any evidence of modern life! This 20-mile float may take you back in time! I have been doing this for 30 years. I have never been bored on these canoe trips. We always catch plenty of fish and always do a fish fry on the river. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. For me rain or shine, it doesn't matter. read more

River was up so that means a lot if you're planning a trip. Above 500cfs is ideal for this route.

I chose to rent from here because of how well the reviews seem to be. I have canoed my entire life, but this was my first time canoeing in Texas, so I was excited. From the time we got there, it seemed like no one had control. When we finally got to the individual to pay, we were told that they would call our name to get our canoe. We were supposed to be in the water by 9:30. There was only one kid taking the canoes off and putting them in the water, since it was taking so long I started to help him. There were 2 larger groups, so the fact it was just one kid and myself helping him is absolutely ridiculous. When we finally had all the canoes off the racks, about 8 canoes. I told my wife to go get it in one, that way we were ensured to get one, especially since I was the one helping take them down. Both groups started bickering because my wife got into a canoe, mind you NONE of them helped get their own canoes down. When we finally got into the water and out, the water was so low we probably had to drag the canoe at least 150 yards at one point. We were not the only ones who had to do this, because we watched about 6 different canoes do it while we were. Then we finally get to the end of the 10 mile route. We are supposed to be back by 4:30 to get our $20 deposit back. We got back at exactly 3:20. They had 3 trucks that can take people back, but only filled one up. My wife and I were the odd ones out to fit into the next truck back and were told we could take the next one. I though, "No big deal, we would wait about 15-20 minutes." They did not take us back until 4:35! They made us wait for over an hour, even though there were 2 gentleman and 2 trucks left that could have taken us. I could not believe how long we had to wait to ride back. We will never use this company again, it was a complete show of disorganization. read more

We really enjoyed our day on the Brazos. The family run business is friendly and did a great job with our reservation. We started on time and finished the 10 mile trip in about 5 hours. Here are some things to remember...you will need to be in decent shape for 10 miles of paddling. This felt like a lot of exercise to me. Bring food, water, and sunscreen. There is a definite element of roughing it, and you'll need to help put your canoe up on the truck at the end. There are no restrooms along the river, etc. This is a beautiful spot in Texas and unspoiled so it is very special. read more

This was such a bad experience that I had to give only one star. We arrived at the place and went inside to pay they said go down to the water's edge and wait for your name to be called, so we did. We were meant to get onto the water at 9:30 and they said if we don't make it back by 4:30 we will be charged extra for the rentals well we didn't get in til 10am and that's because we got a canoe out by ourselves. There was one young guy unloading them and around 40 people waiting so we helped ourselves. Once we were on the river it had no current for 90% of the time which is fine it jus meant a little work but what we were shocked at was how low the water was. We had to get out of our canoe at least 3 times and drag it 100ft over rocks and stones and we hit so many rocks and got stuck. When we finally reached the end there was a shuttle to take us back whivh we thought was awesome...except they couldn't fit 2 of us on there and said the would come back for us. Well over an hour later they came back and then they said we had to wait for some other party that were still down river so we sat in the baking sun for way too long, and we were already tired and hot from the 4 hours on the water. We've both been canoeing before and this was our worst time so I would not recommend this company. read more

I have 6 friends in town visiting from Chicago and I thought it would be a good idea to take them out on a canoe trip in the country for a real taste of Texas. Boy, was I wrong! We did the 10-mile trip (the shortest option) and it was brutal! I wouldn't recommend that trip for a group of beginners. I saw another review from a girl saying the trip took them 3.5 hours so I assumed 10 miles wasn't bad, but that was the worst mistake I've ever made. It took us almost 8 hours! The wind was strong and there were a few challenging areas. We ran into several branches that severely scraped some of us and we even flipped over once. We thought we'd never make it and when we thought we were close to finishing, we realized we were only halfway done. Talk about devastation! That might've been the most hopeless I've ever felt. I know our mistake isn't the fault of the company, but I am subtracting two stars for the customer service. After about 6 hours of torture, we called Rochelle's to tell them we wouldn't make it back in time before closing and were really struggling with the strong winds. They were not sympathetic or helpful at all and told us they don't have any type of rescue process and we'd just have to somehow find our way back but there was nothing anyone could do. All 7 of us almost burst into tears. They were very rude and kept making snarky comments or saying things like "just so you know, you're not getting your deposit back," as if we cared about the money! Split between 7 of us, the deposit was about $9 per person, so it was the least of our worries! We were looking for some type of guidance or support on how to make it back, and luckily no one was seriously injured or dehydrated, otherwise Rochelle's would have left us all out there to die. They also need some type of mile markers out on the river. We had no idea how far we were or how much longer. I've been canoeing before and there were little signs that let you know where you are. It's hard to determine mileage on the river, but perhaps if we would've realized how long it took us to get to 3 or 4 miles, we would have known to turn around and head back to the drop off location, versus thinking we were almost done by that point. Go at your own risk, but just realize that 10 miles is an insane amount unless you're an experienced paddler. read more

I like this place. This is our 3rd time going here in two years. All about the time of early to late June. It worked out fine for our group of four each time. We did the 20 miles in two days. This last we did it in three. The people are nice. The guys that helped were friendly. Yeah we helped them load and unload if needed. No big issue for us. Only things to think about. The river this time of year is low and slow. You will hit rocks and even get out and push. Check the cfs before you go out. It can save you so much. I've only been on it at the 150cfs and it's a pain in spots. This is my lesson. I also know it's not the fault of this place for low water. My only suggestion to business is to have a link to the BRA moved on your page so people can find it easier but it is a small thing in my opinion. read more

I love Rochelle's!!!! This is a must on my summer to do list. My home town is near this area and every year we rent canoes (can also rent kayaks) and float the Brazos. The people who own this place are very friendly and helpful. They have 3 different floats, a 1 day, 2 day and a nineteen mile 4 day. Never done the long one but the 1 & 2 day are great, and my husband did the 4 day as a child and said it was awesome! After all, what could be better than floating the river and drinking some beer! :) Don't forget to bring a camera or you will regret it. read more

Camped overnight and kayaked here! We loved it and plan on coming back. We did the 10-mile trip and it was perfect for our first time. This was a very nice trip and the people at Rochelle's run a smooth organization. The only drawback was the trip was indeed BRUTAL but this was no fault of the company. It was due to out of shape customers. 10 miles is too much for just being out a day trip if you are not experienced. After 5 miles and no marker to show how much further the trip was not fun any longer. It did only hake us 3 1/2 hours and there were low spots we had to pull the canoe over but that is just nature and low water. Everyone who was coming to the pick up location were also saying the trip was brutal. However it was a nice day on the water, in nature and everything was very pretty along the way. read more

Friendly staff, beautiful view from canoe. We saw wild hogs cross the river and lovely birds in flight and on banks. The river was slow moving that day and we had few opportunities to just enjoy the ride without paddling. Be sure you realize that this is work and 10 miles equals a lot of paddle strokes! I would warn you to ask how they will be shuttling you back after your trip. We were shuttled back in a pick -up , 5 kids and 4 women , stacked on top of each other, only 3 seat beats so not everyone was even safely belted. The bed of the truck was full , driver stopped on the way , purchased beer and drank it on the way back to Rochelle's while texting running 65 to 70 MPH. Turning into on coming traffic at times. This is the worst shuttle experience and should be stopped immediately before some families are injured or killed, I would never pay to do this again , I have reported this to the Sheriff and BRA in Graford TX read more

The service is terrible and rude. I was chewed out for "not having a plan" when my group spontaneously wanted to go kayaking. I highly suggest trying to find a different rental place. You have to paddle the entire time on the kayak due to low current. They do not accept debit/credit which any good business should these days. I was asked for my name after canceling another party members reservations like the business was putting me on a blacklist or something. Kayaking/canoeing should be a fun experience especially for those who have never done it before. That is not the way it feels at Rochelle's. read more
