Played this course last week with friends.
This course is really difficult. Don't let the short length fool you. The fairways are tight and lined with trees, and there's quite a bit of water trouble. You need to play well and focus on good course management to have fun here. It was my first round of the year because of Covid and just taking time away from golf, and I definitely left the 18th green feeling mentally and physically drained. The drive is pretty far out in the sticks, but it's not too bad. Even coming from south Grand Prairie.
The course conditions were okay. Really dry because it's summer in Texas. The greens were in very good condition and I felt like they were the perfect speed for beginners like us.
My biggest issue with this course, unfortunately, is something that can't really be fixed by the people running the golf course but is more of a factor coming from the surrounding community. There were political banners everywhere. Every time I saw a house or a group of houses, I'd see banners with "political candidate 2020" on it. The political affiliations of people who live out in Parker County isn't my concern, but when I play golf I do so to escape and be outdoors with my friends and my golf clubs. It feels confrontational and petty to parade this type of stuff onto a golf course. Who are you trying to show off your political allegiance to? Golfers? Why? Keep it in your front yard and let me play my game.
The two times I called regarding tee times the two people I spoke to were pretty rude. Just something to consider when you try calling to schedule. If you're expecting hospitality and courtesy on the phone, there's a chance you're not going to get it. Pretend you're speaking with an automated service and don't bother interacting with the staff beyond that. The lady that helped us when we checked in was pretty friendly tho. The clubhouse has signage up about social distancing and masks, but they aren't strict about wearing masks indoors, nor were there rules about sharing carts, which made me really uncomfortable. My friends and I wore masks, but multiple patrons were walking around the pro shop without masks. Two of them were high school students, who later in the round yelled at my group; telling us to hurry up with some very colorful language. One of our players is a beginner and it was her first time on the course, and we had two groups ahead of us that affected our pace of play as well. That kind of disrespect has no place in this game and it's a shame that my friend's first time on the course was negatively affected by disrespectful children. On hole 17 we had a single playing behind us who was BLASTING country music from his golf cart. He was always a full shot behind us so we didn't see the need to let him through on the last two holes, but I thought his choice to play music that loud was pretty selfish. It's common courtesy to be quiet during a playing partner's back swing, right? Why is it acceptable to have your music at max volume to where we can hear it even when you're over 100 yards away?
Anyway, probably won't be back. There's better, less politically charged courses around DFW. Still glad I played here because it was challenging.
Two stars because the burger was delicious, and the green/cart fees were affordable. read more
