I have been coming here since we moved here almost eight years ago. I like supporting a local small business. Usually I get a pedicure with Elizabeth and now I come for facials with Courtney. This might seem like an indulgence but after the summer I had I needed this. The facial she gives are fabulous, but the arm, shoulder and upper back massage it's a welcome treat and I usually sleep better after having this done. After several years of coming here, I still wouldn't go anywhere else. Yes, I could order online or go to Sephora, but Waterlily and Sepora are worlds apart--and why not when we can support local--AND it's actually better?! First of all, the vibe is completely different. Waterlily is an old house that feels cozy and warm. All of their employees are so elegant and classy and have the utmost customer service at heart. They offer spa services, skin products from certain lines (can't say much about them as I haven't explored them really), and only Trish McEvoy and Laura Mercier make up. However, I love Laura Mercier, and a few Trish McEvoy items (on their suggestion) have become staples for me. I won't use this forum to talk about Laura Mercier, but it really is an excellent make up line. For me, I always like to try on new products or just test out some make up for fun when I go in to stock up on something I have run out of, and they are always happy to put something on me. Plus, every time I go, I learn a new technique of some sort. These ladies really know their stuff. It isn't like at Sephora where you get some high school girl who has only been using make up herself for like 2 years and may have managed to memorize a few key facts about the entire store since she's overwhelmed by the surplus of product lines and hasn't been around long enough to try 1/100 of them. The ladies that work at Waterlily are skilled make up artists and fans of make up. They have a strong knowledge of what works given your face structure, strengths and weaknesses, and how to apply the lines they sell. And they often have national make up artists come in. Oh, and also they keep a file on which products you ordered so if you wonder if this new shade will go with anything you have, they can just look it up and say "Yes, this will go perfectly with that cream shadow in x shade you bought" or if you come in for more concealer, but can't remember what color you are, they know. Very helpful! And some of them even remember my name! What store does that?? Recently, I've had a few issues with a certain product line and they are always good about returning or exchanging. However, know that they only offer store credit, not full returns, which is the only drawback of this store. read more

Probably the best facial I've ever had. Darlene was fantastic. I have a rosacea prone skin so it's quite sensitive. Darlene listened to my concerns and addressed them all beautifully. The facial and neck massage were exquisite. I left with a beautiful glowing skin. Highly highly recommend! read more

I stopped by Waterlily Spa to purchase two products I had read about. One product was a skin care item and the other was a Laura Mercier make up product This lovely spa offered me a tour and it is beautiful. The young woman who helped me was fantastic also. I have never been treated as well and felt more comfortable when buying cosmetics. The staff takes the time to truly get to know customers and their needs without pushing anything like they do at a big box cosmetics counter. Waterlilly is my go to destination when I want to treat myself to professional makeup for a special event. The entire staff makes you feel welcome and appreciated the moment you step foot in the door. The atmosphere is cozy and like you're hanging out at your friends house. I always request Deb Jones for my makeup and she does a fabulous job and takes a real interest in making sure you have a fun time and leave feeling your best. Not impressed by Waterlily. I went earlier this year for a facial because I had been given a gift certificate. It's a house that has been converted into something pretending to be a spa. You feel like you're getting your service in someone's bedroom. The facial was actually good, but the ambiance really ruined it for me. Then after my facial they started throwing products at me to purchase. I currently use high-end skin creams, so I wasn't interested. They're obviously on commission, because they never let up. The lady(?) who owns the place had dirty hair the day I went. I wasn't impressed. I won't return. If you've gone to spas before, this isn't really for you. If you want to get a facial in someone's living room- enjoy! read more

I was surprised to read the other review of Waterlily. I have been going there for the last three years and everytime I go in, I am so pleased to have this small women-owned business in the Rochester area. Besides buying products there, I have always been asked if I needed help with application and love that I learn a new technique every time I stop in. I have had make up done for special occasions and have had the most fabulous pedicures ever. Their product line is unparalleled and their list of services is impressive. I have been a customer of Waterlily's for the past 10 years. I own my own business and have kids, so I cherish my "me time" and when I want to escape, Waterlily is the place. I love the atmosphere of the spa, it is beautifully decorated. The staff is extremely friendly and always willing to help and is extremely knowledgable about their products that they carry. Last summer I was on my way to the Waterlily and it was the weekend of my brother's wedding. On my way there I got in a fender-bender. I wasn't hurt but I was completely frazzled. When I called to tell them what happened they said they would hold all my appointments for me. I arrived an hour later, it was a hot day and I looked like a wreck. The staff took over: they did my nails, toes and best of all did my make-up. They took care of me! When I left I was totally relaxed, looked fabulous and they turned a horrible day into a relaxing one! Now that is customer service! I have been to many spas and I am a make-up junkie at heart. I have had my make-up done at Saks and many other high end places. The services and skill of the technicians at Waterlily is far superior. They truly care about providing value to their clientele.
