We had 2 different mold remediation companies help us within the last 2 years after a sewer line broke, a water pipe broke, and rainwater got into the basement. If we had a perfectly clean house to begin with, the initial mold remediation would probably have been sufficient. But my husband and I grew up during the 1930's and '40's when everything was scarce during wartime and difficult to get. We are experts at recycling and can re-purpose any broken item, so we keep everything. We have not been able to sleep in our home, as we believe the bad air causes our respiratory symptoms, fatigue, & nausea. We are fortunate our son and daughter-in-law let us sleep at their home while Jonathan helps us restore the air quality in our home.
We raised our 3 kids plus their cousins and their friends in this home since we moved here over 50 years ago, and we proudly display items with sentimental value like cards and drawings from our grandchildren. We especially like to keep stacks of cardboard boxes which are easily obtainable from today's delivery mail order businesses. Even though people repeatedly told us cardboard and paper absorbs moisture and makes mold grow, we didn't believe them and we have difficulty letting go of cardboard boxes and gently-used gift wrap.
Jonathan is extremely diplomatic and did not laugh when he first saw our cluttered home and basements stacked to the ceilings with cardboard boxes from the 1960's. He explained how cardboard in damp basements can make mold grow more. He notices things we're doing which could be making the mold problem worse. He is polite and does not judge us for our poor housekeeping.
We purchased our 2 bedroom 1-1/2 bath dream home during the 1960's and added on twice, as our family grew. In retrospect, the new additions to the house and their basements may not have been designed for healthy air flow. The original 1930's house has gulleys on the basement floors to direct the water that used to flow into the house during the winter. Jonathan's knowledge & experience makes him great at troubleshooting our complicated basement.
Our air quality problem did not occur overnight, and we know it will be a long process to change our lifestyle habits. Jonathan is helping us with step-by-step plans to address the moldiest parts of the house then the rest of the house as we de-clutter. He is helping us restore our air quality so we can move back into our home!
Jonathan is prompt, pleasant to work with, and like the Water Damage Solutions website says, through their work they make the Bay Area a better community. Thank you, Jonathan! Five Stars read more
