The longtime keeper of the Maui Fish Pond is Uncle Kimokeo, he is a life long Maui resident who has dedicated himself to preserving the Fish Pond for future generations. You see the Fish Pond was built in the 1600's to create a safe haven for the local fish to spawn and grow. Uncle Kimokeo has maintained the Fish Pond walls using stone high atop Haleakala rebuilding the wall stone by stone. Uncle Kimokeo says he's is entrusted to preserve the Pond and the culture. To listen to him explain all the cultural lore was amazing. He took us out on a Double hull Canoe north and basically had the whole boats singing and chanting Hawaiian songs giving thanks for the permission on the water. The Maui Fish Pond takes out groups daily by appointment for a donation 69.00, consider your donation as a write off as the foundation is a non profit corp. these monies supports all of the upkeep, programs and Youth programs the foundations supports. We found ArtLab in some summer camp guides and thought it'd be fun to try their 4 day 'Little Art Camp'. The space is located right next door to Aloha Crossfit in the business area above Piilani Highway off of Ohukai Road. From the first moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome and excited. Kids were already spray painting on a large sheet canvas and the teacher and her assistant were happily guiding them. The interior is large enough for a good dozen or more kids with tables and other areas to create art in. The kids make different art each day and I was more than impressed and amazed at their creations. The place has such a good atmosphere, good vibes, that we're already enrolling in the next Little Art Camp next month. Fantastic place!

5/10/26 We were here for a Mother's Day family BBQ. First time at this beach in all the years…read moreI've visited Maui. Never knew it was here and it is indeed a hidden gem. It's located at the end of Hauoli Street at Maalaea Bay and not in Wailuku so if you're GPS is sending you to Wailuku, turn around and head in the other direction. Fortunately, my family knew where the beach was. It's small but cozy beach but you can walk along the sandy coastline all the way down to the boats & ocean center at Maalaea Bay or in the other direction toward Kihei. I read that it is a 3-mile stretch. The beach is pretty sandy and it was very windy the day we went and the waves were decent sized. Several kids were in the water. There is a rock ledge a little bit out so just need to be careful of that. This park has a few picnic tables, outside shower, and a small parking lot for about 10 cars, one of them for ADA access. Come early because the lot fills quickly. We didn't get there until almost 10 but we had the one last spot. Street parking is available. No bathroom facilities but there are 2 porta potties at the entrance to the parking lot. They really weren't bad if you have to go. Toilet paper did not run out (and we were there all day), and it didn't reek like porta pottys normally do. Be sure to bring your hand sanitizer. The beach has no lifeguard on duty. It's also not a very crowded beach. There is a rock ledge to the left of the beach that goes out a bit where people go fishing and there were some that were just shoreline fishing. There are several trees that you can pitch your tent and set up chairs. Once you get set up, you'll enjoy the spectacular view of Haleakala, the south end of Maui where Wailea and Makena beach are, Molokini, Kahoolawe, and boats coming in and out of the bay. A beach where you can totally chill and unwind.

Came in for 10 days with minimal plans, allowing the islands energy to guide my days. Rolling with what came my way, and taking it all in. Open arms. Each day was fulfilling and wonderful. Waking up, with the beautiful scent of Maui carried on the ocean air. Flowers, whales, beaching, snorkeling, hiking, camping. What you get- a host who Is absolutely amazing, thoughtful and kind- who deeply loves this island and can't wait to share it with you. Jay has created a wonderful guide- a compilation of things you can do, places to explore that are on and off the beaten path, great places to camp, etc! He is also so easy to connect with if you have questions or whatever! Jay sets you up so you can create your own adventure and have the vacay of a life time- by your design. He has taken great care of the campers you rent, so they're ready to take you to places that take your breath away. You get everything you need to camp- chairs, tables, all the kitchen and cooking gear and cooler. Snorkeling equipment. Towels. Super comfy bed. Makes it easy. What you need to do- take a chance. Try something new. Skip the stationary room. Be a Turtle. Take your room with you. Oh! And bring a sticker for the book! Already have my 3rd vacation booked with Jay this November, and am looking at when my 4th is going to happen. Now that I've done it this way, can't see going any other way. For those of you who car/van camp you get it, but for those of you who want to try for the first time, I recommend you choose Easy Campers Maui. (I think most of his reviews are on Google, so I offered Yelp.) The bonus with Jay is that he takes time to explain the gear in the car (food prep, table, chairs, snorkel gear, towels, and other stuff. He also provides a 7 page memo on potential places to stay. It is truly plug and play. Honestly this is such a great value, cheaper than a rent a car and you have places to stay all over the island! And note if one night you feel like a hotel you just drive right in like a local. On the road to Hana this vehicle handles like a charm, and better than the new jeep I rented in prior years. The four wheel drive is great and is very well maintained. If you like to hike or take photos this is an epic way to see Maui. Enjoy.
