WOW!! I am so glad I went with Maui Waveriders Kihei for our private surf lesson. The best, most informative, and fun lesson and surf session we've EVER had. I was convinced to book with them after reading 5-star review after 5-star review on any platform I could find them on. And boy was I glad I did. The entire process was incredibly easy and smooth, from online booking to when we showed up and received our rash guards and booties - they have the process down to a science and there is no friction or questions. George Orton was our instructor and he was the star of the show. With his engineer, and professional skate/surf background he provided detailed, specific instructions making sure our mechanics were correct and we understood what it took for us each to get up and catch a wave. From the beginning, we both had everything we needed to catch waves and with George's constant attention and tweaks both my husband and I caught and rode every wave right up to the shore. After our lesson with George and Maui Waveriders, we feel confident going back out on our own and riding the surf!! Thank you to both, for providing such exceptional instructions and making the most of our 2 hours. We will be recommending you to everyone we know!

Ask for Kazuma and you'll be left "me ka mahalo nui loa"--with so much gratitude! Kazuma is the perfect instructor. It honestly felt like surfing with a SUPER supportive friend who just happens to be an expert. I joined a small family session on a Tuesday, and ended up booking a second solo session just hours before my flight home two days later. At 43, I had never even come close to touching a surfboard, but I left Maui feeling confident, comfortable, and inspired to keep going. Thanks to Kazuma's guidance, I feel well equipped to carry this momentum forward and take my surfing to the next level. I HIGHLY, and without reservation, recommend booking with him--whether it's private, semi-private, or both. You won't regret it!

Had a private surf lesson with Trey. Check in was easy. Rash guard, water shoes, and board provided. He was amazing. My sons got up on their boards and were surfing in no time. The beach location in Kihei was great for beginners. Daily rentals are inexpensive. Highly recommend. Also, the Hi-Tech surf shop next door is great for shopping.

Outstanding service and teaching. Learned both how to paddle board surf and just surf. Teacher's were phenomenal. George is a legend. Wave Daddy is da man! Highly recommend this to everyone. I am a surfer now thanks to Maui Wave riders. Thank you so much!

My daughter and I took a semi private lesson from a local surfer in Wailea and he did a fabulous job! We had two hours to learn how to surf. He was super helpful! We also had a photographer that took some fun pictures! We took the 7:30 AM class and by 9 it was packed with other people trying to surf, that was the only bummer

Kids up and riding within first few minutes in water. Great instructors to get beginner surfers started.

Maui Wave Riders semi-private lessons were a fantastic experience! The instructor, Noah, had my boys standing the riding the waves within the first few minutes (less than 5 min!) in the water. Was very impressive. 7:30 am start also helps, as many other programs start at 8, so having that first half hour to ourselves was great to start out to have plenty of room. They stay in fairly shallow water, so very safe for 7 & 9 yo, and perfect conditions to learn to catch waves. I, unfortunately, sprained my ankle earlier on the trip, and could not participate. Even so, MWV were very accommodating. When we are on Maui next time, I will definitely be back to do my lesson too. Also with the lesson, board rental same day is included, to get more practice in. Thanks Maui Wave Riders (in Kihei)!

Andrew wanted us to be able to hold hands and we got it done!!

We found the spot easily and the van. Once we checked in, we filled out the waiver, fitted with a sun shirt and water shoes. We were also given a mesh bag to put our belongings in and this was put in their van. We were in a group of 6 people total and our guide was Mikey. Mikey went over the basics and had us practice on dry land and then we were off. It was only waist deep and most of the ocean floor was sand, with a few rocks, so the water shoes came in handy. Mikey found a wonderful area for us to ride waves on Kalama Beach and was very encouraging and positive. He'd tell you exactly what to do and when to do it to successfully surf. I am the least athletic person and I stood up on my first wave. Best of all, we saw a lot of turtles! I could have stayed all day and just enjoyed the turtles. Surfing is exhausting and I had a hysterectomy 6 months ago. When I wanted to just cheer people on, there was no pressure to get back out there. It was at my own pace. I really appreciated that. There is also a photographer to purchase pictures and we bought those as well for $120.00. $90.00 for 1 person and $120.00 for two. It will be 48 hours or so until those come in digitally. Gratuity isn't included, so we brought cash. If you need to, there is also a digital way to tip your instructor. If you use this company, ask for Mikey. He's a great teacher and very enthusiastic with his small group. Con: on the Viator website it lists "light refreshments", which wasn't offered. If I had to do it again, I'd skip Viator and book directly with the company. If you book directly with the company it's $88.00 per person.

We arrived a little late (went to the wrong location further south), but we were accommodated regardless. Manu (Manuel) who hails from Argentina was our instructor. He was super friendly and encouraging, remembered all our names after asking only once, and was just genuinely a really nice person. He offered each person individual feedback, and we all managed to eventually glide our way along without falling at least once! Even the fellow taking the photos was friendly and encouraging, it really made the morning. For $20 per person, the photos are made available digitally; the quality of the pics is totally worth it, lots of great action shots. Would go again, was just starting to get a feel for it! Great way to spend two hours, at $90 per person. All equipment is included, including long sleeve rash guard shirts and full water booties. The latter are essential because the practice area is very shallow and rocky. My cousin and I also happened to get jellyfish stings, so just be aware to watch the surface of the water for them, especially around full moon time (we went day of the full moon). Don't worry, it was about as bad as stinging nettle and only lasted a few hours. It's also pretty atypical, my first time getting stung despite coming to Maui for years. Just do it! You'll have fun no matter what. All ages and sizes were out learning to surf that day. I enjoyed watching others gain skill and confidence, and hearing people cheer their friends on. Best day we've had so far this trip.

If you have kids wanting to learn to surf, this is the place to go. They are personable, friendly, professional - but also laid back, and most of all, know how to talk to children. Aloha Ocean Adventures are truly passionate about their business and making a positive impact on your experience. I have two 9 year old girls. Ikaika was constantly providing feedback and instructions for each girl who had different skill sets based on their age. It can be a little difficult to hear out there on the water, so be sure to speak up and ask your tour guide to repeat if needed. Would have loved to hear more about facts about the whales and Maui in general, and it'd be cool if the tour guides used Hawaiian words like "Huli" which means "flip over". Luckily we didn't huli!
