The tech claimed our HVAC line needed to be cleaned out without even opening up and looking at it. It was only two years old. We called a neutral company and had them come out to do an inspection with no prior information. They opened everything up and said everything was in top shape...opened the line and told us it was immaculately clean. This just proved that Ace was coming up with a reason for the builders to be able to blame us for the leak, because Ace is contracted with our builders. Follow the money. A year later, our thermostat plus sign button just stopped working. We tried to call Ace, because it had a 5 year warranty. They wanted us to pay $100 for them to come out and replace it. We could go buy a new thermostat for close to that price. No one told us that until the day of our appointment too. When my husband told them he was unhappy with their company, the rep hung up on him. All of this is especially disgraceful, because they claim to be a Christian company.

CoolTech Mechanical came to my home on Thursday, May 28, 2026, for routine HVAC maintenance on two…read moreunits. The technician was professional, knowledgeable, and did good work. My issue is not with the technician. My issue is with the office's billing after the work was already quoted, approved, and completed. During the visit, the technician advised that a capacitor was out of tolerance. He showed me the reading, quoted $155 for the replacement, and showed me CoolTech's pricing sheet on his phone before I approved the work. He then completed the repair and showed me the new capacitor reading. We had already agreed to $177.15 for the maintenance visit, so I expected the total to be $332.15 before any additional discount. Because we are a disabled veteran household, I asked whether they offered any additional discount. If the answer had been no, that would have been fine. Instead, the office later claimed that after a supposed 20% discount, the total was $389. That math does not make sense. When I questioned it, I was told the technician had quoted me wrong, even though he had quoted the price and shown me the pricing sheet before I authorized the work. This is a predatory billing practice: quote and show one price in the field, complete the work, then have the office bill a higher amount afterward while claiming the original quote was wrong. My broader concern is for elderly or vulnerable customers who may not feel able to challenge a bill. Customers should get a hard copy or take a photo of any quoted pricing before authorizing work. I was not allowed to speak with the owner who the office dispatch stated had died on May 4th. We paid the bill are choosing to not use CoolTech in the future.. The technician did good work, but the office billing experience was unacceptable.

First, this company is no longer owned/operated by the Coomes family. Apparently the Coomes sold…read morethe company some time ago. We had them install a new a/c system in 2011 which failed constantly immediately upon installation. They came out over and over and couldn't figure out what was wrong. One night a couple of weeks after install, the electrical panel in the furnace closet for the system caught on fire. Had we not been home, our house would have burned down. They came out the next day and found that their installers (not the guy that came out to quote the system) did not wire the system properly. Once that was finally done properly, the system performed okay but has always put out very high humidity. They came every year to service this Carrier unit for the entirety of its 10 yr warranty. At that time, we switched to our neighbor's HVAC company to perform its annual maintenance for the next 3 years. We also change the Honeywell advanced filters every 3 months, instead of the recommended 6 months, to keep the system clean. Saturday of Memorial Day weekend we heard a thumping noise in the furnace closet and turned OFF the thermostat immediately and called our neighbor's HVAC company to come look at it, but their techs were taking off the entire weekend until Tuesday, so we called Coomes - they had installed it, after all, so thought maybe they could repair it more quickly. A tech came out and spent about 15-20 minutes (most of that at the compressor unit outside, even though we told him and the person who answered the phone, that the problem was with the fan blower assembly in the furnace closet inside the house) and took a few photos of the coils and one pic of the fan motor and declared that both the compressor and fan blower motor needed to be replaced, and that cost would be almost $5,000.00 for the compressor, and almost $4,000.00 for the fan blower assy IF they could even find either one of them, and this would take at least one week IF the parts could be found, so what he recommended was that we just purchase an entire new system for between $22k - $29k. He had spent less than 20 minutes on the premises and was quoting an entire new system and going on about the financing and saving sales tax, etc. and that made us VERY uncomfortable. For this, we were charged an $89.00 service call. We told him we were going to get a 2nd opinion. He also left the thermostat turned ON, which would have put a great deal of stress on the compressor had we not noticed it and turned it back OFF. We waited until our neighbor's HVAC company was back in town and after spending over an hour going over the inside and outside and testing every component in the system, he found nothing wrong with the compressor at all and the only problem found in the entire system was that the fan blower motor had died (which we already knew). The price to replace the fan blower motor, including labor, came out to $895.00 AND the part was IN STOCK LOCALLY. We did call the new owner of Coomes HVAC, (that used to be in Duncanville, but now it says Midlothian), and they agreed to destroy the $89.00 check we wrote for the "service call" after this situation was explained. The person who answered the phone when we called for an emergency repair was told why we were calling - we were looking for an emergency repair. We believe we were being scammed - or it's possible these new owners are not interested in repairing an existing system, only in selling new ones, so they overprice a repair. Whatever the case is, based on our situation - we suggest you research the current owners of any business, and get first-hand referrals or references plus a 2nd and even 3rd opinion on anything quoted.

They showed up on time, asked us a few questions about what we needed out of our service call, set up and started a 30 minute air quality tester and then got right to work on the AC system. David went up into the attic to work on the upstairs units while Daniel worked on the outdoor units. After a thorough check, David found everything in the attic was fine. Daniel found some loose connectors on the exterior units. They tightened up those connectors and both Daniel and David spent a little extra diagnostic time outside making sure that tightening those valves was the solution and that there were no further leaks. The review of the air quality test showed a lot of chemical content. We finally figured out that it was the new leather furniture (apparently leeching the chemicals that the leather was treated with at the factory). All is well, now. The exterior units (Compressors?) needed some freon. They are running very well now. Ya can't live in Texas without AC! We settled the bill via credit card at the end of the service call. The bill invoice and a future project estimate were immediately e-mailed to me for my review. I really like doing business with them! They will be e-mailing me more information about a maintenance agreement soon. I inquired about Texas Air Authorities' company history. David told me they are a 17 year old company in Alvarado, Texas (about 40 miles southwest of Grand Prairie) that is in the process of finding real estate in the Arlington area for them to expand their presence into the DFW market. They service Dallas, Fort Worth, Mansfield, Arlington, Duncanville, and of course Grand Prairie, among others in the area. I highly recommend Texas Air Authorities!
