Our AC went out over the Memorial weekend - of course, right?! I called the after hours service number. Ben was out to add Freon. It was discovered we had a coil that needed to be replaced. Given the age of the unit, we decided to install a whole new unit. They were fast and efficient in getting us in for an install. CoolTech Mechanical came to my home on Thursday, May 28, 2026, for routine HVAC maintenance on two units. The technician was professional, knowledgeable, and did good work. My issue is not with the technician. My issue is with the office's billing after the work was already quoted, approved, and completed. During the visit, the technician advised that a capacitor was out of tolerance. He showed me the reading, quoted $155 for the replacement, and showed me CoolTech's pricing sheet on his phone before I approved the work. He then completed the repair and showed me the new capacitor reading. We had already agreed to $177.15 for the maintenance visit, so I expected the total to be $332.15 before any additional discount. Because we are a disabled veteran household, I asked whether they offered any additional discount. If the answer had been no, that would have been fine. Instead, the office later claimed that after a supposed 20% discount, the total was $389. That math does not make sense. When I questioned it, I was told the technician had quoted me wrong, even though he had quoted the price and shown me the pricing sheet before I authorized the work. This is a predatory billing practice: quote and show one price in the field, complete the work, then have the office bill a higher amount afterward while claiming the original quote was wrong. My broader concern is for elderly or vulnerable customers who may not feel able to challenge a bill. Customers should get a hard copy or take a photo of any quoted pricing before authorizing work. I was not allowed to speak with the owner who the office dispatch stated had died on May 4th. We paid the bill are choosing to not use CoolTech in the future.. Cool Tech always responds back quickly. They have a service technician at our house fairly quickly, and they carefully diagnose and test the system thoroughly. The price is always reasonable, and they don't try to sell you anything unneeded. I highly recommend them. I have been using them for over 20 years. Update: 5/9/23 I understand about mistakes but you were told FOUR! Four different times what was needed. We waited ALL weekend and because your incompetency we are having to start the waiting process with another company. Did you even check addresses?? You only go by last names?? I explained the whole situation yesterday morning and you just totally ignored everything I said. What's the point of work invoices if you don't read what's stated on there by your own techs?? You dropped the ball but what's worse is that you made no attempt to fix it except to just throw your hands up in the air and just give us back our money and push it back on my husband saying he was unprofessional?! No sir! That is this company. Yes, my husband was upset and yelling after after we were nice and patient Friday night-Monday at 4pm....we had enough with the runaround! And now you're also trying to say it was too late in the day??? 1) It was only 4pm 2) I would think we would have been placed on the schedule for first thing Monday morning since we had been waiting 3)You advertise that you're 24/7! What constitutes as an ER if not this?? Supply places were still open or why didn't you have a tech come back out with the motor from your shop after realizing your mix up...that would have been taking care of the customer and making it right. I have been in the service industry for 27 years and there's no way I'd get away with nor would I do a 1/2 ass job and just simply refund their $ if I had been the one to mess up. I have integrity whereas you clearly do not. Good day sir. I called on 5/1/23. I used them last year to replace my capacitor outside and everything was great. Well I'm now replacing my good review from last year to update with a not so good one...I used them again and they replaced the capacitor on the inside but saying that the next time the motor would need to be replaced. So 4 days later, On Friday 5/5/23, the motor went out. I called to have them come back out to replace the motor. My husband received a call Saturday morning from the technician saying that he would be out on Monday (5/8/23) with the motor. I called this morning (5/8/23) because it was almost noon and hadn't heard anything from the company. I explained the situation and they said we were on the schedule for today. But when a different tech arrived he looks at the unit says that the motor needed to be replaced but he didn't have the part with him and it would have to be tomorrow. I called the company and had a supervisor call me back, may have been the owner, my husband explained the situation to him and that person wasn't interested in fixing the situation except to give me back my money. I don't want that, I just wanted what I was told on Saturday. They already knew what the problem was (4 different times it was stated) so why send another person out without the part?? It's not a special order part, and this is TX and already hot. read more

Just had them come by to tune up the HVAC they installed a few years ago. Ben was extremely courteous, transparent and professional. But my favorite part of the appointment was that when Cool Tech texted me that he was on his way, they included his name and a photo of him. I love they took that extra step to make me feel safe. Jon come out and made some recommendations because I requested a quote to upgrade my 21 year old unit. His team team did an excellent job installing an entire heat pump system 4 ton unit, and he beat everyone's price with his original estimate (that was definitely the best part). Others were anywhere between $500 to $2500 more for the same package and I received about 8 quotes before going with Cool Tech. You were clueless about the tech and the service call (you didn't know a thing about it -- an owner of a good small business would know where his service techs have been...) After our conversation I had nothing more to say to you. I stand by what I posted -- your "service" was horrible and unprofessional. No company should allow a tech to leave a dismantled AC unit in the yard - period. But then again you didn't know anything when we spoke so you probably didn't know he came, dismantled my unit, left - until I called and then you concocted a story to make it all right in your mind. I expected an apology not excuses. I hope you have improved work ethic now as it has been a while. read more

My new system was installed in the spring of this year. Yesterday and today are the first really cold days since then. With the old system I had issues with heating the downstairs of my house because of poor location of the interior unit and the duct routing. If I tried to get the downstairs to 70F, the upstairs would be 90F. And downstairs would still be cold. These guys are the best! My 31 year old condenser unit went out and I needed it replaced asap. I emailed Cool Tech Mechanical AFTER HOURS and they emailed me back quickly! Not only did they come out the next day to inspect my issue, they were able to replace it the day after the inspection! Did I mention this was during the Labor Day weekend? It only took the guys 2.5 hours to replace my condenser unit and HVAC unit in the attic! Also, I compared their price to 3 other companies and they not only had the best price but selection as well. Capable, not extraordinary. They installed a new unit with some modifications I requested. Apparently sized wrong (their spec), on extreme days it cannot keep up. Multiple call-backs. They came to my house five times on one month because the AC stopped cooling after they left every time. On the first trip, they put coolant in and said they had to come back the next day. The second time they replaced the blower motor. The third time they said it was the drain that they put in, filled coolant again, and spilled the pan under the attic unit, causing water damage in the living room. The other times, the techs always said the previous person had done something wrong. They generally put coolant in, blamed the pervious tech, and left. Talked to the owner before trip 6 in a month and he was rude to me, talking over me and refusing to listen. After I said I would report them to the BBB, Jon, the owner, said he would refund our payment to them. They did pay to have the water damage fixed. I will never use them again, and I will not recommend this company to anyone. read more
