Waterside Resort…read more Just like previous reviews I read it really is in the middle of nowhere. It wasn't like any other property I have stayed at. Normally you go check in at the front desk and there's someone there to help you whenever you need it. At this location the office is not open 24/7 and I think one of the apartments was converted to be partly the office. They do provide an after hours number. There are a lot of bugs. They have a couple bug traps around the property, but it really isn't enough. We saw a lot of gnats and spider webs. The trolley carts to take your bags up to your room were rusty and you couldn't put too much on it or the tires would go flat. We were worried that this was going to be a mistake. When we finally got our keys and went into our room It was completely different. The space is a generous size. The kitchen is huge. I wish my kitchen was that big. The first bedroom had a separate shower and tub. The tub had jets, but I didn't know how to work them so I couldn't get them to come on. The towels aren't very soft. We usually bring our own so that wasn't a big issue. Maintenance had to come to help with our remotes because they weren't working with the TVs. Apparently dish network remotes have to stay in the same room as the box. Maybe a suggestion on that would be to label the remotes with what room they go in because they are all the same. The beds. Were comfortable and everything was clean. They provide a washer and dryer, however our dryer wasn't drying the clothes. The office was closed that day and I called after hours and maintenance came over quickly. He did his best, but wasn't able to fix it. They offered to let me bring my clothes to the office to be dried and maintenance was very nice when we had to call. There is a large balcony with chairs and tables where you can sit outside and enjoy the view. The view is spectacular. The water is so calming and beautiful. The pool was cold, but I think that is to be expected in October. Not all of the jets worked in the hot tub and the water wasn't very hot. We didn't use the fire pit but they do have that as an option and they also have a BBQ with utensils. There is a cute gazebo with chairs that you can sit in and just enjoy the quiet and the water . There is a small town across the bridge called Edenton. A lot of places were closed during the week. We didn't get to go into the lighthouse, but we went into one of the other houses that had a bookstore. The people in there were really friendly and told us some history about the town. I do recommend checking it out. It does have its own little history. They have a couple of restaurants that aren't too pricey, and have decent food. It's not the best I've had, but it's also not the worst. We drove over to a Piggly Wiggly, which was about 20 minutes away in Plymouth I think. That area was pretty scarce. They did have some fast food restaurants. I bought two packs of meat at the store so I can make two meals in our room. The meat went bad after only a day. I recommend going to the Food Lion instead . They have a Food Lion in Edenton, which was nice and convenient. There is a Walmart about 45 minutes away and the best way to tell I'm not a country girl is my excitement to see a Starbucks lol. If you are looking for a place to go relax and be left alone, this is the place for you. It's perfect for sitting outside and reading a book. We played games every night and it was a really nice place just hang out with your family. I don't think it was worth 215,000 points though.

We arrive at the dock and went to Captain Mark's boat.We told him 2 seniors and my service dog. He told me we would have to wait for any other people that showed up to see if they were alright with my service animal. I told him my dog was a service animal plus I even told him she was a seizure alert dog . I even showed him her tag which I carry on her carrier with her license number and picture. He could also scan it to see all my dog's information. I told him it was against the law what he was doing but he just told me he wasn't going to argue with me.He had it turned around, we should have been allowed on the boat and anyone who was not comfortable with it could choose not to go. He said we had to wait just in case someone was afraid of dogs or had allergies. After he made me feel so uncomfortable all I wanted to do is leave this little town Edenton NC and our beautiful day was destroyed. I would tell anyone thinking of going with this man that is so prejudiced against someone with a handicap to think twice. He's not someone you would want to spend any time around! I will be reporting Captain Mark for an ADA violation so hopefully other individuals with a disability won't have to encounter this like we did.

We began the evening on the porch with prosecco and home cured salmon. Dinner was not easy since our family consists of a strident vegetarian (you can't say chicken in her presence), a gluten free person who won't eat fish or sea food, mushrooms or spinach, a diabetic, and two non meat eaters. To make up for this, three family members will eat anything. First course was spring vegetable risotto, next ratatouille with a side of roast chicken breast for the meat eaters, then salad. Dessert was house made mango sorbet, and a ten layer chocolate cake made by Donna the baker. Everything was delicious. After dinner we sat in the parlor and played games. A perfect evening thanks to our hosts Diane (the chef) and Don.

The Chowan County Courthouse was completed in 1767 and is the oldest courthouse still in active use…read morein North Carolina. The courthouse's design is attributed either to John Hawks, architect of Tryon Palace in New Bern, or Gilbert Leigh, a local builder. It features a T-shaped layout with Flemish bond brickwork, a central courtroom, and a second-floor assembly room often referred to as a ballroom. The building has a two-stage wooden cupola with a weathervane atop the structure, reflecting classical British architectural influences. During the Revolutionary era, the courthouse was a hub of political and legal activity. Figures such as Joseph Hewes (a signer of the Declaration of Independence), James Iredell (later a U.S. Supreme Court Justice), and Samuel Johnston (Governor and U.S. Senator) practiced law and held meetings there. It is one of the most impressive buildings in Edenton and well worth a stop. [Review 838 of 2025 - 4268 in North Carolina - 24397 overall]
