Average service. Beautiful decor. Delicious food especially the desserts. And, the waitresses were hawt. :3 Slightly small portions but I personally like that because I have a small stomach and in most other restaurants I would have to bring home leftovers. I hate doing that. And the portion sizes here weren't minuscule either. Enough that with soup plus salad plus meal plus dessert, I'm comfortably full rather than stuffed. I have a few experiences with this place. Here is what happened last night (3/4/14): Checked google and Wasabi's website for their hours a few days in advance. Okay, cool, they're open until 9:30 on weekdays. Drove by around 7:55 with my family for our dad's birthday--they were CLOSED. Lights off, nothing. Very disappointed. Recent reviews tell me they are likely not closed for good, but why close over an hour early on a Tuesday with no note about it anywhere online? Other than last night's experience (which will probably keep my family from going back, at least without calling ahead to make sure their hours are ACTUALLY their hours), this place has been okay. The food is good but a little overpriced (even for sushi, which is always expensive). The service is what bugs me, and my fiance. They HOVER. They check on you 30 seconds after handing you the menu to see if you've decided. The second you put the last piece of food in your mouth, they're there to take your plate. Here's the check, pay and leave! At least that's how I've felt there in the past. It feels like they just want to feed you, get your money and get you out. And it's not like they're ever packed and pressed for tables (although it is a small place). Maybe if they had been open last night I'd give them 3 stars, but that was seriously disappointing and I saw nothing on their door to suggest they had any special reason for being closed when everything online said they would be open. We have eaten here every Friday night for the past 4 years. That's a lot of sushi & salmon teriyaki! Every Friday night? Yes! Every Friday night. WE LOVE IT. This is the best sushi in town, and has become the standard by which I judge all others. Simply put, this is the most authentic Sushi Bar you'll find within 30 mi. I highly recommend the Spicy Shrimp roll, the Explode roll, and the Chicken Katsu. read more

Despite being the only sushi restaurant for miles around, this establishment doesn't fail to disappoint. Been coming here for years and finally, this last year, decided to finally cut the support and patronage. Food has decreased in size and value, comes all at different times and servers, who don't speak English at a grade school level or above, ignore and feign ignorance when asked. Last time there, the manager completely ruined our experience by touching our raw fish with his hands when we pointed out that he had brought us the wrong items. He then pretended like this was no big deal, which disturbed us all to the point where we stared at our uneaten platters and then simply walked out after paying. No, he didn't comp anything. The place was an absolute mess and we won't be returning. I'd caution visitors to Hudson to probably not take a chance on this iffy upstate restaurant and just go to sushi in your city at a spot that cares about quality, service, and repeat business. At this spot, you're probably just another visitor to Hudson who doesn't warrant any kind of love, attention, or consideration and exists for the sole purpose of enriching the fools who run this place. My husband and I had shrimp tempura and chicken tempura, sweet potato roll and tuna roll, and green tea ice cream. It was a 10 out of 10. The place was extremely clean. The salad and mango dressing, and miso soup was very good. The waiter was extremely polite. Delicious meal. Only complaint we have, it was chilly in there. They not only made mistakes with my order but charged me for it. They also tried to charge me for drinks when all I had was water. Pleasantly good sushi, with some interesting rolls & the octopus dishes that can be hard to come by 'round here, in a classic (if there is such a thing) sushi restaurant atmosphere - the waving porcelain cats, lots of wood, bamboo and mirrors, sake bottles hanging from the ceiling, colored lights, etc. -- not super special but a place I'd go all the time if I lived in the neighborhood. It's the only "Japanese" restaurant in the area, so if you have to have some sushi or maki, this is it. But such mediocrity is kind of sad, as are the Chinese wait staff and "sushi chefs", who are tight and robotic, and almost embarrassed, as they have no personal connection to the food. Ask for something by its Japanese name - eg. Tekka maki- and you get a blank stare. I tried Wasabi when it opened, and now for the second and last time. The salad wasn't fresh, even the wasabi itself looked old and tired. And the cold unfriendliness of the waitress who practically threw my food down in front of me- well, it was just sad. read more

Wasabi is just fine; Hudson is fortunate to have a sushi place. But the food here is very average. If you're used to high-quality NYC sushi, you are going to be let down. Small little Japanese restaurant, capable of seating maybe 30, that may actually be the only sushi joint in town. The fish was very tasty and fresh, though the service was rather lacking. From the employee who yells from behind the sushi bar as you enter, and then quickly drops menus on your table before retreating behind the counter, to our waitress who could hardly understand our order a lot is left to be desired. I was in and out quickly on a Sunday night, and left content. The food is priced normally for sushi and is fairly quick to come out. Try takeout instead, if you're local. read more

Ate here on 26 June 2015. My God daughter chose the spot after her graduation. She loves sushi and so do I. It was three of us and we ordered a variety of meals to share. Salmon teriyaki, chicken udon, sweet potato sushi roll and two other sushi rolls. We were not disappointed with any thing. It was so good and as we took a bite of each thing our palates were pleased. My God daughter who is a waitress at another restaurant usually feels the customer service sucks, but it's a culture thing if you ask me. The food is serviceable, not large Americanized version edging toward more traditional, and the only option in Hudson unfortunately. I've been here a dozen times, and the service has become unbearable. The server pulled the menu out of my hand while ordering, and when I wanted some to go for daughter at home, the server walked away mid-order. This used to be my go-to place whenever I stop in Hudson. But last night was by far the worst dining experience I've had.. yes it was a Friday night but there is no excuse to have waited almost 45 minutes for our food to be brought out. Although there was only three tables occupied, the waitress focused a majority of her attention on the other two rather than mine. We received no drink refills or check-ups.. a trip to wasabi usually takes about 25 minutes max but us three were there for an hour and a half. Have had carryout from here several times, and the food was excellent. This includes the sushi and teriyaki. So glad to have it in Hudson. Seems like a nice atmosphere when I have gone in. For the carry-out, they were efficient and the food was the right temperature. Highly recommended! read more

one of the worst places ive been to. Never will I eat there again the service terrible the food not worth what we paid at all for 5 side dishes 1 bottle of sakki for a total of $62.90 our sides consisted of 1 cup of rice small 1 miso soup small 1 veggie dumpling,1 cucumber roll and a beef negimaki that was gross. And they over charge you on the tip they automatically add it to ur bill after the tax plus total we were 4 guest they said its mandatory to automatically charge you the tip on the bill if you dine in I never heard of such thing.I will never patron this place again take your money else were and have a satifying meal somewhere else this place is garbage. I rather drive to albany or kingston at least in albany you can go to samurai restaurant they have unlimited sushi for 15.95 per person nice friendly staff there and the food is fresh. read more

scratching my head over the 'mediocre' statements about this place... but understandable, if you're a sushi/sashimi connoisseur, comparisons are natural but folks, Hudson is 130+ miles from NYC/Manhattan, where you can select from scores of above average purveyors. For upstate NY, it's really pretty decent. The half dozen or so faux-Japanese restaurants in Albany aren't nearly as good, except for Hiro's on Central, practically on the Schenectady cityline. Wasabi's owners are very friendly -- he and his wife go out of their way to make you feel at home and show their appreciation for regulars. A+ for presentation -- the creative configurations of rolls and fish are gorgeous. The sushi chef and the owner, if he's also behind the bar, will customize practically anything on the menu! Not bad for a rural city far from the madding crowd. read more

Go here fairly often - usually a quick sushi deluxe on a "Movie night". My partner is a huge sushi eater (that doesn't sound quite right somehow...) and he is always happy. Have never gone for any of the cooked food so can't comment on that. Once in a while we order the sushi "love boat" - and - although you feel a bit silly when this wooden sushi laden boat docks on your table - it is actually a good deal, with lots of variety. I've always found the staff VERY obliging. Maybe the miso soup isn't my favorite on the planet, but all-in-all it's a friendly spot for a tasty, fresh meal - not necessarily somewhere you'll want to linger hours and hours. read more

I recently just went to wasabi with a couple of my friends. The food there was wonderful, which is why I'm only giving this place two stars. The customer service we had was terrible. Once I got the check, they put down an $11 dollar tip which I didn't ask for, but I let it slide. After I went outside with my friends, one of the workers came out and started yelling at us for not giving them a tip. I replied and explained that they put down a tip I didn't ask for, but he kept denying that they did this and continued to yell at us for not giving them a tip. read more

I was in the area working and I needed a quick bite before catching a friend in a show at Hudson Stageworks. Wasabi gets 4 stars for seating me immediately on a crowded Friday night, and delivering a fresh and delicious sashimi dinner. The miso soup could have been hotter, but the beer was cold and the service excellent. Can't talk about the rest of the menu but no one looked unhappy and the pace was packed. read more

Had a great lunch here today with my sister, what a find! I live about a half hour away and will be back. Sushi boat for two was plenty! And fresh fresh fresh! One drawback was the salad, just some iceberg lettuce chunks with dressing, but at least it was crispy and fresh.. A huge plus for sake lovers, they have many many types of sake, I have never seen such a selection, and price range. The miso soup was hot and tasty. I adore sushi and was initially pleased to see a sushi restaurant in Hudson only a block away from the house I was renting. It was one of the first places we wanted to check out after moving into town. Unfortunately, the food here just isn't that good nor is the service particularly pleasant or professional. We really wanted to like this place, but after going 4 or 5 times we gave up. The quality of the food is mediocre. The fish is not high grade, the menu never changes, and many of the items such as shumai are obviously purchased frozen, in bulk, rather than made on the premises. The teriyaki dishes are far too sweet and often over-cooked. The ambiance is non-existent: the seating is uncomfortable and the tables are placed far too close together; the lighting is harsh and the overall effect is a bit grimy. Since I adore sushi, I simply stopped going. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are really longing for something resembling Japanese food. read more
