Wasabi is our go-to for good sushi at a good price. I got 3 rolls: crunchy spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and the special Maui roll. Each roll was good, but the Maui roll was excellent! It had lobster, avocado, a touch of wasabi, a creamy mayo, and kiwi and mango on top. My husband had the nabeyaki sobi. It's a noodle soup that comes with vegetables and an egg in it. Went here for lunch, restaurant is larger and has more aesthetic appeal than its counter-part in the city. My date and I ordered the Spicy Family Roll and the Super Dynamite roll. Both of us like less "risky" choices when it comes to sushi, and both these dishes were great. The spicy family roll has a little more crunch. If you like spicy crunchy crab then this is a good one to try. The Super dynamite Roll is delicious, and mild in taste. Has a great tempura outside and a warm creamy inside. Nestled in a strip plaza I wasnt expecting much. However I got the exact opposite when we walked in. This establisment is elegantly decorated and inviting. We were greeted immediately by a friendly hostess who immediately sat us at a table providing us with menus. She welcomed us, told us about the specials and stated our server would be right over. No sooner did she walk away when the waitress was greeting us and taking out drink orders. They have quite the extensive menu with many different kinds of rolls to choose from. I took quite a while making up my mind as I read through the descriptions of each and every thing on the menu. The waitress was quite patient even asking if there was anything she could do to help explain things to which I replied no. When the food arrived it was very well presented on the plate. I ordered three different kinds of rolls finding each one was better than the last. The waitress was very pleasent and attentive however not overbaring. I've never been to the location on Elmwood but this is in fact, the same ownership. They offer lunch specials Monday through Saturday from 11 to 3pm, and are quite reasonably priced around $8-12. I went with the sushi/sashimi special featuring 6 pieces of sashimi, 3 pieces of nigiri, and a spicy crab roll all for $11.95. Lunch comes with a bowl of miso soup. The sashimi was pretty outstanding - perfect texture, thick cut and no fishy smell whatsoever. The fish was the chef's selection with salmon, tuna, white tuna. Nigiri was enjoyable - the fish was sliced thin and long, but I've come to realize for me it's all about the sashimi. Wasabi is like an old friend who will always be there for you. Whenever I'm in the Williamsville area, I can always count on them to provide great service, and delicious sushi. The inside is decorated very similarly to most sushi places in the area, and the booths are very cozy. The place itself is pretty small, but I've never really had to wait for a table. I felt myself in a bit of a sushi rut lately (always ordering the same 3 rolls), so this time I ordered their "Spicy Family" roll (spicy crab, tuna and salmon with avocado). I had no problem eating the whole thing, as it was very fresh and tasty. I didn't have room this time, but their mochi dessert is also very good, and fun to share with the table. Best sushi in buffalo!! Tried this place for lunch today and we will return soon. Miso soup was good but the spicey seafood soup was amazing. Most places say spicey and dont deliver but they definitely do. The shrimp and scallops had a nice fresh flavor!! Also got the marinated beef ribs for an app were tender and flavorful. We shared the 3 roll sushi special. Eel roll, crunchy spicy crab and salmon rolls. They make the sushi in an open sushi bar. The rolls are so unbelievably fresh and flavorful!!! A dear favorite of mine, Wasabi always elicits a wave of nostalgia. I frequented this location with my first and second boyfriends, my beloved college roommate, my mom and dad when they were visiting, and with various other lovely friends. Venturing back for takeout on a business trip to Buffalo was bittersweet! It helps that the service is great every time and that the sushi is also quite good. I happened to be in the vicinity of Wasabi again, this time. It was raining so hard, and I was very hungry, so I decided to give it another try (yeah yeah I know, judge me all you want, after all I didn't go by that rule, love it or leave it). It must be fate, that every time I order here, something goes wrong. I was less angry this time than I was amused. So with my past experience with the tonkatsu, I ordered shrimp tempura udon this time. I thought to myself, well who can screw up a bowl of udon with just a few pieces of veggies in there and some - shrimp tempura - on the side, right? Wrong. When my bowl came out, the bowl was huge, and admittedly, the broth was not bad. The problem was that, it wasn't an udon broth, but more like a Chinese noodle soup broth full of typical vegetables that would go in an aforementioned bowl. Don't get me wrong, I love Chinese noodle soups as much as anyone else, but not in an.udon.bowl. And then, the thing that amused me the most was that they had put a large amount of chicken in my bowl for some strange unknown reason. Of course they didn't get the wrong order, because I got my (1) shrimp tempura on the side! Maybe they were feeling generous (!!!) Then I quietly thought to myself, not forgetting to look as upset as I could have (when I actually wasn't that upset), that if I had ordered a veggie udon bowl instead, would they bring me an udon bowl full of chicken, with veggies on the side, like they did with my tempura udon? Think about it... And so with this experience, though I will try my best not to come back, I have a few suggestions for the restaurant: 1) Please serve what was ordered. When I ordered shrimp tempura udon, it means I would like udon with shrimp tempura. Not chicken, or beef, or any added pleasantly surprising bonuses (which in this case, the quality of the chicken was terrible so it wasn't that pleasant of a surprise). 2) Japanese food is fairly common in the US nowadays, and many people know what should be in an udon bowl. What was in my udon bowl, was not supposed to be in an udon bowl. Again, you can refer to suggestion #1. 3) Please continue to keep the pricing reasonable like it is. When I found out my bowl (that was so big and so filling, quality aside) was only $6.50, I instanly felt much better and was even smiling when I walked out, amazed at the price. A dollar or two does wonder for customers' mentality, for some unknown reason. Maybe next time that fate brings me back to Wasabi (this location), I'll order some sushi. Maybe. read more

I'm the only one I know that eats sushi out of all my friends, so I haven't had a chance to pig out on a full boat or anything, although I'd definitely be willing to try. The only reason i gave this three stars is that something was slightly lacking... the miso soup was instant, and they gave me a spoon, and having had miso soup in a japanese household I was really weirded out by that. Two skewers and that was enough for me and my wife. This time I decided to try the Grilled Marinated Beef Ribs. Overall, the experience was fantastic as always. I did never have a moment where I came to this location and did not like. My meal had a great presentation and the taste on the same level. I really have nothing to talk bad about it. I've stopped in for dinner here at least 3 times, and walked away satisfied every time. The restaurant is a decent size and has booths for a more private dinner or a large bench to accomodate a large party. One time we had around 10-12 people and they had plenty of seating for all of us. One of my favorite dishes is the chirashi. Traditionally it is chef's choice of sashimi over a bed of sushi rice in a "bento box" style bowl. Here they serve it on a large plate. It is a different appearance, but same great taste! The fish here is very fresh too. My fiance does not like to order raw fish when we go out for Japanese food, however even she enjoyed the albacore that I had that night. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Buffalo so far. Honestly, I didn't really expect to find very great sushi here because typically the better places are more coastal. The food is very fresh, the atmosphere is nice and the service is usually pretty prompt. I absolutely love the specialty rolls they have. Delicious and interesting! The prices are also great. Hands down best sushi in the burbs. I go there at least once a week. The freshest fish and best sushi rice. The white tuna sashimi and salmon melt in your mouth, eel avocado rolls are the best hand rolls. Not only was the server not very pleasant, he actually said he was not coming to our table to check in and to give us our check (even though we were standing for a while waiting for someone to come give us our check so we can pay and leave) because he was busy eating/finishing his dinner. Wasabi is my favorite place for sushi by far, I know that there's a few others and a new one that's popped up in elmwood village I have yet to try there. But for the price and the quality of food you can't go wrong for a quick lunch or a nice dinner or take out, at wasabi. I have three personal favorites, the tuna trio being one of them three kinds of tuna (this being a sashimi dish, no rice) the flavor is amazing and the pieces are a good size.....my second is the ocean special it's a mixture of tuna sashimi pieces, seaweed salad and some sort of spicy mayo with ginger and soy flavoring and it is a meal in it self although I could be wrong I think it's on the appetizer section of the menu...and for those who love the rolls and the sashimi I'd go Love boat all the way!!! It's huge so it's perfect for a first date or date night or just to eat til your full and take the rest home! They also have green tea ice cream which is amazing and it's a small quaint atmosphere the staff are all nice and you can watch the chefs prepare the fish for the day!! There's no way I would ever drive past, walk past or run past this place and ever think to go inside for the mere reason that the place looks closed from the outside. There is one light up open sign in the window but the "Wasabi" sign is completely broken and the entire restaurant looked pitch black. My friend and I had called and placed a to go order moments earlier, which is the only reason why we knew it was open. So, in we go and all over a sudden, we are in this totally intimate and beautiful restaurant. The woman at the front counter was very nice and our food was ready when we got there. We went with three rolls, spicy crab, spicy salmon and yellowtail. We also got edamame and miso soup. The soup was average at best and the edamame was not overly salted which was nice. The spicy rolls were AWESOME. So fresh and tasty. The yellowtail was just alright. We got white rice, didn't ask for brown but next time I would. The quality and quantity was exactly the same. They are very generous with the amount of "stuffing" inside the roll by serving a very high ratio of fish. However, I do not recommend the tonkatsu. I have been going to Wasabi for years and have recommended it to many people over that time. I frequently grab their lunch special to go and as of late, the quality has slipped. The food still tastes good, however, the rolls fall apart making it a bit more difficult to eat. I figured the first time it happened was a fluke but it has happened several times now. I have also had soy sauce spill all over the takeout bag because it was just thrown in the bag. Please take the extra minute or two it takes to prepare these rolls as it has changed my view of this restaurant. I may need to try Fuji grill just a few minutes further away. read more

Wasabi is one of my favorites and I have probably frequented it more than any other. The staff is always friendly and service is typically fast. Lunch prices are very reasonable and the bento boxes are outstanding(beef negemaki please!).......I love that you get a little taste of everything. I usually get the Teriyaki Salmon combo which comes with a piece of salmon, teriyaki veggies, 6 piece california roll, side salad, miso soup, and dumplings. All for $7.95. Each time I have gone (at least a dozen times), the food has been consistent. The salmon is cooked perfectly and drizzled with Teriyaki sauce, the veggies are crisp and fresh, the sushi is good, and I don't eat the dumplings because they have pork in them so I cannot comment on those. read more

Wasabi is personally the one sushi spot that I can always trust. Their sushi is the closest to "real sushi" that I have had. All the seafood is relatively fresh. The rice for the sushi is cooked and seasoned perfectly (not too much rice vinegar). The service is very fast and nice. I generally just do take out for my family, and the food is always high quality and very excellent. The lunch specials are a pretty great steal!
