NEW FAVORITE! We are in town for business every Sept/Oct for about 6 weeks. We have tried to visit…read morethis place many times before, but they always closed for the season. Now they are staying open later in the season and we are SOOOOO happy! This place ROCKS! Cute little place, love the outside deck, but let's get real, it's all about the food! We've been twice now. I got the small (yeah, right) lobster roll and clam chowder combo both times I came. FIrst, I don't know who can eat the Monsta one, not I. The "small" is bigger than anyone else's I've seen. If you look closely at the last pic I posted of the lobster roll, there is an ENTIRE lobster in there. There is a full, uncut lobster tail, and two full, uncut claws, and a ton of other meat around it. Full lobster kids. The grill on the bun is perfect. While the bun is hot, the lobster itself is served cold and undressed, but with warm drawn butter on the side. MMmmmmmmmm. It's my fav lobster roll hands down. Both times I've had a few of the raw littlenecks. So good. Also last time, the BF went with me and he had the Cuban sandwich, as he is not a fan of clams or lobster (I know, and I stay with him anyway). This Cubano was INSANE good! I had a couple bites. We both love a Cubano, and this is probably the best one either of us have ever had. Great bread, and it's HUGE! All in all, great place, great food, great vibe, friendly peeps. Can't wait til next September! Woohoo!

The steak - and the frites - were perfect. Prepared just as requested A nicely done pork chop w fruit chutney on top along with fingerlings and fried kale. And then..:the desserts. Oh man, what a finish - sublime chocolate pots de crème the restaurant advised the dessert was not built to travel. So yeah it didn't look perfect but that was never the point - the taste? Deep rich chocolate and a perfect consistency The other dessert was equally perfect: almond cake, candied nuts, sliced nectarines and crème anglaise on the size. PERFECTION! New management is settling in and coming in to its own.

The Caesar salad was lackluster. Several items were not delivered after the first request. Most important the noise level of the restaurant was, simply put, very oppressive. I'm not sure what the decibel level is but I'm sure it was higher than a New York subway station. If you want to carry on a meaningful conversation, it would be helpful to be proficient in American Sign Language or perhaps to bring a bullhorn. This is really a shame. There are many cost effective options the restaurant could pursue to cut down on the noise level. For example, quilts could replace the paintings on the wall. This would be in keeping with the Cape/Colonial aesthetic of the restaurant.

The food is consistently excellent with delicious, homemade-style creations, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is spot-on (families are welcome) -- great music and the hometown teams always on the TV. Hi. North Jerseyan here. Longtime Yelper. I hereby offer my wholehearted endorsement of Rod & Rail…read moreto anyone visiting or living in / near Cape Cod. Ambiance: Local bar. Not divey, but you walk in and you're basically at the bar. There's bar seating, a few tables on the side, a few in the back. People were eating and drinking wherever. Service: Prompt, friendly. The bartender was the owner, chatting with a local about working where he lives and drinking while he works. But very friendly and open to visitors here. And no overwhelming Boston accent. If you're not local, you'll do fine. Food: OK, I was here on an impulse search for dessert. They happened to have fresh homemade donut holes to go, so I got some cinnamon dusted. And by dusted, I mean WHOA NELLY that's a lot! And the donut holes were also huge. And they came with warm caramel dipping sauce. I couldn't put it down. While I was waiting (again, didn't take long, they were just shaking the topping on in the back), I looked over and saw bar pies that honestly? To this North Jerseyan? Looked like good tasty pizza. In Massachusetts. You have been warned. If you stay on Route 25 to bypass Bourne on your way to or from the bridges, you're not just adding mileage to your car to save a little time. You're missing out on the best place in a country mile.
