I've been wanting to do a wine tasting with a train ride for a while. While, this wasn't drinking wine on a train (as I thought), it's still worth it. You get a nice view of the Delaware river, get on a bus then get a tour of the vineyard, wine tasting with mini tapas. Everyone was very hospitable. We enjoyed it. read more

Very enjoyable day traveling by train and transferring to a short bus ride to the winery. The winery owner Steve gave us a very informative overview about the vineyard, the various steps to convert grapes into wine, and the tastings were paired with food items. It would have been nice to stay at the winery longer and have the opportunity to catch a later bus and train back to Phillipsburg. read more

Had an awesome time, all volunteer staff was super friendly. Train was on time for both pick up and drop off. Offered scenic views of the Delaware. As a regular NJ Transit commuter this train was 1000% cleaner and didn't have delays so definitely worth the experience. read more

This is a horrible, over-priced experience from beginning to end, and if you've been to Napa, Sonoma, or any legit winery, DO NOT GO! If I could give this NO STARS, I would. First, as others have noted, the train is not a steam train. The wine train serves no wine, and is decorated with dusty plastic grapes. Once you get to the stop (the corn maze) you have to board a SCHOOL BUS for another 15 minutes to get to the winery. The unfriendly female owner of Villa Milagro then boarded the bus and kept us on the bus for another 10 minutes. Once we got to the tasting, again, she continued to talk and bore the audience with details and history, and still no wine was served. Once wine was actually served, her surly business partner was super-stingy with the pours, while the friendly teenagers working there gave 3 hefty pours of each. The wine is NOT GOOD, either. The apps served, as someone previously pointed out, seemed like they were frozen, and super tiny. There are also only porta-potties. We were then RUSHED out after less than an hour (no time to purchase a glass or walk around the winery), with the owner saying it was "a really long day" for her. When my sister went to purchase wine, they gave her the wrong wine twice (luckily she checked) - which also was noted previously! Instead of boarding the train back, we were bussed back. (This may be a result of the 3:30 tasting; beware, as you can't drink wine on the bus back, but you can on the train). The ONLY saving grace is that it is a beautiful property with great views. If you're looking for another winery in the area save your money and try the new Little Ridge Winery in Harmony, NJ. read more

If you like wineries and never been on a steam locomotive before, this is a great idea! At first I thought we would just hop on the train and take it to the winery and back. But to my surprise, my friends and I were given a history lesson about the train, the area, and the winery! Our guide was so friendly and bursting with information! He even allowed us into the cab where the steam engineer controls the engine, firebox and other contraptions. What's neat is the entire staff is run by volunteers so you can really get a sense of their dedication and passion for steam locomotives. When we visited in June 2008, Alba Vineyard was the only winery they catered to. Now they added another winery - Villa Milagro. You can visit both for $40 a person or just Alba Vineyard for $25. The price includes the train ride, winery tour, and wine tasting. Also, the train doesn't exactly stop at the winery's front door! You hop on a school bus for a short drive to the winery and it picks you up after a specified amount of time. Note: There were only 3 of us on the wine train for the time slot we chose so depending on the size of your group you may or may not get as much attention as we did. read more

It was a fun day. The wines were pretty good, the scenery was beautiful and the staff of volunteers were amazing. One of our group is physically disabled and they all went out of their way to accommodate her getting on and off of the train. Everyone was very friendly and very helpful. My only complaint is I wish we could've spent more time at the winery, but we did stop off at the picnic area on the trip back. read more

It was a little rushed at the vineyard, but I think that was the vineyards fault. The vineyard had a great view, great wine, and the owner provided great education. The train was convenient and comfortable. read more

It is a must have experience! Talk to the conductor - train man he has lots of knowledge. After sightseeing, we did the winery tour at Milagros winery! Wines were excellent that we purchased 6 bottles! After having a picnic by the mine, we took the train back to phillipsburg! What a great way to spend your weekend!! read more

Soooo if nostalgia is your thing, this is a 5! The workers are super cute and sweet. They were dressed the part and very hospitable BUT thank God for the silent car. It was a group of 5 of us and we were on the train for the wine tour. Loved that you could eat and drink on the train. Be warned that the train is very old - Like cobwebs! Yikes! Worth trying out if you're in the area. I definitely wouldn't drive up for the wine tour but the polar express one might be worth the drive. read more

Don't go to the winery. There are too many other ones in the area. I spoke with the male owner and he is downright nasty. I wanted to ask about appetizers for a vegan in my group. Also choices for people that don't drink wine. He was derogatory the whole time on the call. Don't go!! read more

So, the whole idea was charming, and the train ride was fine. The bus driver was a bit of a crazy driver, but we made it safely to the vineyard. It was a really nice presentation, including the individually plated hors doeuvres, but extremely rushed, as we were actually warned. We weren't inside AT ALL, and the ONE porta-potty was not enough to equip the people on this specific "tour." We all placed our wine orders, and many people were then waiting to use the porta potty before getting back on the bus to take us back to the train. As I was the last to receive my order , I also was the last waiting on this line. I was told by one of the owners, (wife) "Sorry, there's really no time..we are running late already." (instead of waiting for one person to exit the porta potty or let me into the tasting room which also had a bathroom!} I didnt insist, as I figured I was not a child and could wait. As I was handed my order hurriedly, I shuffled onto the train. Upon arriving home, and unpacking the 3 bottles of wine I had purchased, I realized I had 2 whites and one red....where I had ordered 2 reds and one specific white. No one in my household drinks the one I received in error. Of course, anyone can make a mistake! But, what irks me is that I called immediately , and asked them to check my order, as I had received the wrong wine. The owner assured me it was THEIR mistake , after checking my order slip. When I offered to ship it back, so I could get the correct one, he told me to not be silly- it would cost almost the price of the bottle to do that! Told me to just give it to a friend. Great I thought, right? WRONG....He assured me that when I come NEXT time I should tell them they indeed owe me a bottle of that type of wine! When I said I lived a distance and really had no idea of when I'd be back, -well....no offer of him shipping or sending a refund check. Told me when Im ready to order MORE to call(how does he know I'd want more??) and it would make it worth the shipping price(yes really) by ordering more bottles and he'd add the one bottle I didnt get for free! My only regret is I paid cash , or I couldve disputed the charge. Overall the day was nice in general, but this definitely changed the mood of the day. I feel this is not good business.....Sometimes businesses shoud just "drink" the price of their own mistake- esp since they clearly admitted it was theirs, (and AGAIN, a valid mistake anyone can make!) read more

We currently have my father visiting from Germany and he is a big train enthusiast. He was really looking forward to riding on a steam train. All their advertisements have beautiful pictures of the steam train with great scenery and nowhere it actually states that the steam train is currently in the shop, nor did the person at the ticket booth tell us that there is no steam train before we paid. We paid all that money to drive in dirty old passenger cars (with NO steam train) overlooking backyards filled with waste. What a disappointment and rip-off!!!! read more

What a rip-off! The "steam" engine was diesel. I thought the train ride would be picturesque as it was autumn ... Nothing to see. Once at the winery, we were rushed, being reminded several times that we "had a train to catch". The "hors doeuvres" were something frozen from Stop n Shop.
