    Entrance to multi-use trail
    Rich S.

This review is specifically for the multiuse trail, not the fields or indoor sports complex. James City County does an excellent job at providing its citizens with top notch recreational amenities, and the multiuse trail at the WSC (pronounced "wisk" for people in the know) is a perfect example. The 3.5 mile crushed gravel trail is perfect for runners and hikers that enjoy the softer surfaces and scenic escape of a wooded trail, but not the distraction of roots, sharp turns, and abrupt dips generally associated with mountain bike trails and/or poorly maintained trails. While catering to my klutzy side by providing a smooth surface, the trail climbs and falls over moderate hills for its duration, making for a somewhat challenging run or hike. Mile markers are provided in 1/2 mile increments, so this is helpful if you are trying to hit a specific pace (though I find that with the hilliness, I tend to average 30 seconds or so slower per mile than I would exerting the same effort on the road). There is plenty of parking at the trailhead, which is located towards the front of the park- just past Warhill High School if entering from Centerville Rd. I can't wait until "spring forward" when I'll be able to run here again after work.

Great facility! Lots of soccer fields, baseball fields and playgrounds to keep everyone happy. The stadium is AstroTurf along with a few other soccer fields. Lots of parking as well. The complex is nicely laid out.

Thank you Rich S. for recommending this place it was definitely worth the trip! This place is pretty big and definitely offers lots of amenities for JCC residents ( or Newport News stragglers like me!). Theres football fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, playgrounds, trails and a rec center among other things I haven't seen yet but soon will. The fields and even the bathrooms ( you know you're in a nice area when the toilets are automated and made of stainless steel) are all well kept. Theres also a nice Chesapeak Bay restoritive marsh near the entrance. The WISC rec center offers some good prgrams for adults and kids as well. Although, I haven't used any of the programs and came here for the trail i'll probably see take a dance class or two soon. The trail as Rich S. has stated is 3.5 miles and is a good run for those who want a clear uninhibited path. I was able to run the entire trail and a bit past towards the Marsh for a good 5 miler. Overall, if you are near this place and are a definitely a JCC then I recommend that you go to take advantage of this place. Oh, and theres lots of parking lots so that not a problem near each perspective amenity. And this place is hugely popular for different schools and youth programs so lots of kids and families go here.

Watching #irontribe in the crossfit competition

I came here from out of town to watch a crossfit competition and was blown away. The facility is very large. They accommodate kids very well with a rock wall play area. They have a large AstroTurf indoor soccer field as well as numerous outdoor fields. Their crossfit gym has every piece of equipment you could ever want. I was very impressed. My only regret was being a fan in the stands rather than a participate out there!

From the moment…read moreyou walk in, the coaches and staff are so friendly and approachable--it really sets the tone for a welcoming, community-focused experience. Whether you're brand new to pickleball or have been playing for years, there's something here for everyone. The courts are top-notch. They have that perfect outdoor surface feel, but without any of the usual outdoor annoyances--no wind, no bugs, no pollen, no rain delays. Just smooth, uninterrupted play! The black walls also make it so much easier to see the ball, which is a huge plus. The level of play is fantastic, and the community is even better. There are weekly competitive events that are not only super fun, but also a great way to meet other players at your skill level. If you're just getting started, there are beginner-friendly camps and even free monthly clinics to help you get into the game. I've taken clinics with Coaches Becky, Bill, and Kris--and they've all been amazing! They're so knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping you improve. You can tell they really care about helping you play your best and understand the techniques that make a difference. The facility itself is beautiful--there are clean showers, a really nice event room, and ball machines available if you want to drill on your own. Head pro Chase Stokes does a great job keeping everyone informed about upcoming events through the newsletter and TeamReach--it makes planning your next visit super easy. Whether you're there for open play, lessons, or just to have a good time, you'll leave feeling like part of the Picklr family. Highly, highly recommend!

Good matcha, non-accommodating service…read more Every time I've been to padel plant, I haven't had any issues with service or quality of food but more recently, I visited with a friend who unfortunately couldn't handle just how much balsamic vinaigrette they had drowned her pizza slice in. She asked for a replacement and they told her they had "no more pizza left" and had "thrown it all out" for the day. Come to see 15 minutes later there were people all around us who had ordered and received various kinds of pizzas.... Thought it was really awkward that they lied to her face and I can't help but wonder if it was because my friend who ordered the pizza wears a hijab. Awkward and uncomfortable experience in my opinion, and certainly not worth the overpriced and at best -decent- matcha. Take my experience with a grain of salt, but just something to keep in mind...

TLDR; beautiful space, elevated vibes and a great place to play padel or pickleball!…read more Unlike other indoor pickleball places I've been to, Padel Plant is beautifully decorated with an elevated vibe. There's a cafe and restaurant inside so coffee, sandwiches, pizza and salad are easily accessible before or after you play. Booking online was super easy and they even offer padels and balls to rent. Next time we'll set aside more time to look for parking because the lot nearby charged 12.99 for the day when we only needed a couple of hours. I'm sure we could have found a cheaper spot to park if we knew. Nevertheless, we look forward to coming back!
