    Entrance to multi-use trail
    Rich S.

This review is specifically for the multiuse trail, not the fields or indoor sports complex. James City County does an excellent job at providing its citizens with top notch recreational amenities, and the multiuse trail at the WSC (pronounced "wisk" for people in the know) is a perfect example. The 3.5 mile crushed gravel trail is perfect for runners and hikers that enjoy the softer surfaces and scenic escape of a wooded trail, but not the distraction of roots, sharp turns, and abrupt dips generally associated with mountain bike trails and/or poorly maintained trails. While catering to my klutzy side by providing a smooth surface, the trail climbs and falls over moderate hills for its duration, making for a somewhat challenging run or hike. Mile markers are provided in 1/2 mile increments, so this is helpful if you are trying to hit a specific pace (though I find that with the hilliness, I tend to average 30 seconds or so slower per mile than I would exerting the same effort on the road). There is plenty of parking at the trailhead, which is located towards the front of the park- just past Warhill High School if entering from Centerville Rd. I can't wait until "spring forward" when I'll be able to run here again after work.

Great facility! Lots of soccer fields, baseball fields and playgrounds to keep everyone happy. The stadium is AstroTurf along with a few other soccer fields. Lots of parking as well. The complex is nicely laid out.

Thank you Rich S. for recommending this place it was definitely worth the trip! This place is pretty big and definitely offers lots of amenities for JCC residents ( or Newport News stragglers like me!). Theres football fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, playgrounds, trails and a rec center among other things I haven't seen yet but soon will. The fields and even the bathrooms ( you know you're in a nice area when the toilets are automated and made of stainless steel) are all well kept. Theres also a nice Chesapeak Bay restoritive marsh near the entrance. The WISC rec center offers some good prgrams for adults and kids as well. Although, I haven't used any of the programs and came here for the trail i'll probably see take a dance class or two soon. The trail as Rich S. has stated is 3.5 miles and is a good run for those who want a clear uninhibited path. I was able to run the entire trail and a bit past towards the Marsh for a good 5 miler. Overall, if you are near this place and are a definitely a JCC then I recommend that you go to take advantage of this place. Oh, and theres lots of parking lots so that not a problem near each perspective amenity. And this place is hugely popular for different schools and youth programs so lots of kids and families go here.

Watching #irontribe in the crossfit competition

I came here from out of town to watch a crossfit competition and was blown away. The facility is very large. They accommodate kids very well with a rock wall play area. They have a large AstroTurf indoor soccer field as well as numerous outdoor fields. Their crossfit gym has every piece of equipment you could ever want. I was very impressed. My only regret was being a fan in the stands rather than a participate out there!

We were looking for batting cages to practice for the upcoming Little League season and boy did we hit the motherlode. Not only does this facility have five outside self-pitch batting cages, but it has at least an equal number of impeccable baseball fields with nice scoreboards, dugouts and bleachers. I would say they are at least AA-level, maybe AAA-level sized fields. There is also four fields that look like they are probably used for A ball. In addition, it looked like there were a similar number of soccer fields plus several basketball courts. All of these were incredibly maintained. And this is just the outdoor facilities. Indoor are more soccer and baseball practice facilities, daycare and fitness facilities. We used the outdoor fields for free. Based on the website, there is no initiation fee and monthly dues are $75 for a family of four. A great bargain. We did not use the indoor facilities, but they looked great and were equally well-maintained.

I've been to the Campus Store over the years, but last time was early eight years or more. The building adjacent to Merchants Square is owned by Colonial Williamsburg. Campus Shop has apparel for every W&M team imaginable, from soccer to gymnastics.
