This review is for the swimming pool only…read more This was my first time at the WISC and I was darn impressed with the amount of activities offered. I had no idea this was tucked back in this area by Lafayette H.S. The setting is pretty and back in the woods. Parking is plentiful, you just may have to walk. Specifically for the pool is very limited in the rear. For officials and coaches they have a designated lot not far. Spectator parking is in front of the main building unless you get lucky. The pool is in the rear of the main building. I believe it's only a few years old, possibly built in 2017. It does not look like much from the front, but don't let that fool you. Locker rooms are up front. The lobby area is very small for congregating before and after meets. The pool itself is a 10 lane short course. In order to conduct warm-up/cools down during a meet a lane, or two is closed running the heats at either 8, or 9 lanes. There is a small baby pool up front. The deck is decent size and has bleacher area for athletes and limited spectator bleachers. Fold up chairs are permitted. Around six garage doors are around each side of the structure to improve air quality of the temperatures are conducive. The two day meet hosted by 757 Swim was in January. Garage doors overall were closed with a few at the start area up a quarter to improve air quality. Needless to say with cooler temps it was chilly for the athletes when waiting for their events. The meet hosting was fantastic by 757 and timelines were mostly hit by the officials crew. Upon first entering the pool area I was struck with a heavy chlorine smell and my eyes began to burn. Well duh... pools are chlorinated but this was heavy. I'm around pools everyday, so I know the challenges of pool air quality. Both days were consistently the same on poor air. My athlete had a cough and sore throat a day after the meet. This to me is dangerous over a long period of time. Two days is not a long period. Splashes also add to the churning up of chlorine thrown up in the air. It was a large meet with lots of splashes and my older swimmer was second session. Possible HVAC issue on my visit? I can't really say other than friends said it's been better. If your interested in all that's available at WISC check their website, or read other reviews here on yelp. If swimming is your thing then consider a membership to the pool. It is an amazing complex with incredible offerings. If for not the issues with air I'm at a 4, but with air quality challenged a 3 fits them best.

Ft. Eustis Aquatic Center is an indoor competition pool and adventure water park located on the Ft…read more Eustis Army base. You must be military personnel, family, or in my case a sanctioned event where your invited. First the adventure pool area is in the newer section of the building. It features a 30 ft, 146 ft long triple loop slide. There is also a shallow end for toddlers with a maximum depth of 3.5 ft. This area by far is the best thing about the center. Minimal parking is located in front of the building. During an event it is quickly overwhelmed and over flow parking that is not too far away must be utilized. The competition pool is located in the older section and dates back to possibly the late 50's and looks its age. The competition pool is 11 lanes and 25 yards in length. It feature a balcony that holds 450-500 spectators to view swimming meets. Often the spectators are over heated even in the middle of winter. The balcony is not a place that I would ever want to be, it's down right miserable. The pool is a FAST due to it's size and depth. My 10 year old son got his first SCY record for his club in this pool swimming the 100 yard Butterfly as an 8 year old. The largest swim meet of the year held at the facility is the SEVA 12&U Christmas Champs. Around 800+ swimmers from around Virginia attend the Prelim/Finals format meet. It is considered a mid season short course championship and tune up to Age Group Champs held in March. The Aquatic center has locker rooms, showers and private changing areas for men and women. The building also has a multi purpose room and concessions. When the pool is not in use it is open for active military to utilize for laps. Swimming lessons are also offered for both children and adults. The center can also be used for birthday parties. Everything about the place except for the adventure area is old, old old. The pool serves the military community as well the swimming community who hold meets. The adventure area is great for families to enjoy. However, with the age and obvious maintenance issues in the competition pool area a three for this review is probably a stretch.

(Today is 4th of July) I talked on the phone yesterday with some lady(A) asking about the policy to visit and she was very kind and nice so I decided to visit today with my friends. I wanted to make sure if they take cards or cash only so I called a head on the way. The lady(B) said, there's no such a thing as one time visit and it works ONLY IF you're willing to buy a ticket for the summer($300~) with her bad attitude. She was telling me there's rules that I have to learn and have a tour with her before I use the pool. They didn't have all that training/ learning rules last year and I specifically asked the lady(A) from yesterday about that if I can still visit even though I visited once last year and she said "YES". So I asked the lady(B) why are you saying something differently than the lady(A). She said.."ah...cus we're different people?" I asked "is it crowded right now?" "Yes. We're having a party right now" "Would you say more than 30 ppl around?"(I wasn't gonna go if that was the case) "Can't even count" "Ok" That was our conversation on the phone and I already arrived at the pool by then so I wanted to check it out from outside since I'm already there if it's too crowded. There were about 15 people hanging on the chairs. I guess she didn't count how many people have entered. Look..this is definitely a neighborhood business. I live 5 minuets away from the pool. How can you assume that I won't be your future member? It's your choice if you wanna support this local business, go ahead but we aren't coming back. BMAC as it is most affectionately known, is an indoor swimming pool ran by the city of Newport…read moreNews. It offers more than just a pool in the building as I will further go into. The day to day operation has a staff of city of NN employees. The location of the facility sets on the Newport News/Hampton border and is off the Mercury/Jefferson corridor close to the James River Bridge. The parking lot can easily accommodate many visitors, however when large swim meets are taking place it fills. The staff take great strides to keep the building clean and well maintained. The guards are all Red Cross certified and in my experience very competent and care about the safety of those that participant in their programs. The pool itself is a 50 meter competition pool with movable bulk heads for conversion to 25 yards (basically splitting the 50 in half). The pool for Short Course season (25 yards) keeps the bulkhead in the middle. The deck around pool has three rows of spectator seating. Visitors are NOT allowed to bring in food, or swim back packs inside the aquatic area. The pool features two 3 meter diving boards. Restrooms and locker rooms are available. As well deck showers are outside the locker rooms. Two year around clubs utilize the pool. The Coastguards Blue Devils and the SEVA Seahawks. At the times these clubs would conduct practice part of the pool would be closed off, but lanes would be made available for pass members etc. The building also offers a gym with a full basketball court, a daycare, multi-pourpose rooms for dance, yoga, etc. There is a room that offers a kitchen with sink, stove and refrigerator. A large under cover outside area features three basketball courts. You can rent out the multi-purpose rooms and pool for parties. Daily passes ($3-$5), punch cards ($19-$24), annual and collegiate passes ($50-$70) are available for both Newport News and non residents at an up charge. All of these prices in my experience are very reasonable. The facility itself is in the red every year. The city of NN subsidizes to a great degree which is wonderful for those that utilize this very nice aquatic facility. It would be hard to believe if you are a Newport News, or Hampton resident that you do not know about this facility. This is a major asset to not only the Newport News, but to Hampton Roads. This Aquatic Center offers the ONLY 50 meter pool used for Long Course competition. I encourage you to check it out if this is something that you, or family can utilize.

After breakfast, we enjoyed some time on the patio before heading out for a walk. We stopped by the pool area at the main building. Staff told us that the pools are heated at the main building, we were surprised to learn the pool we loved on previous visits (with the great kids' area) is no longer heated. That was disappointing since we really enjoyed it before. I tested the main pool water -- it was cold, and even the indoor pool was chilly. It showed in the turnout too: only one person in the outdoor pool and nobody in the indoor pool, compared to how busy the other heated pool used to be. It's surprising that Marriott wouldn't keep the pools consistently warm, especially when guests clearly used them more when heated. I guess we'll have to see about going somewhere else. We'll see what happens tomorrow with our presentation -- though it still feels strange to have to sit through one when we paid for this package.
