This is a solid place. If you are looking for a place to camp, you must check this place out. I…read morehave been here twice and would go back again in a heartbeat. Not a great place, but definitely center of the fairway. The first time we came, our Pack stayed in the upper area. This past weekend, we stayed in the main field. We had plenty of room, the staff were extremely accomodating/nice and the facilities were great. The location on the river was nice. The entire Pack had a great time. We didn't really know where to get water and they basically said - go to that field and it was the end of our interactions with the check in. The kids did the climbing wall, which was kinda ok as well as the low ropes which was definitely lame and you shouldn't waste your money. They were nice and it was interesting, but not worth the money. Basically, it was a teambuilding exercise. The Scouts had the usual incredible time, but that comes any time you put a bunch of young kids on a field and camp out. We had fun, have been before and will probably come again in a couple years. If you are looking for a place for your Cub Scouts to camp, come here. Just don't waste your money on the "extra" activities.

The camp counselors welcome them in like a cheering squad, and get them settled into their cabins first, so they can meet all their bunk mates. The itinerary for the week is very busy, they are up early, with a healthy breakfast to get them going, and they are out to the beach or the pool for their morning, then to lunch and some down time before they start the afternoon activities. Each meal they are allowed to sing and chant and stand on their seats just like in the movies, and they are allowed to BE KIDS... Then they are off to the afternoon activities which are land or dry stuff, archery, arts & crafts, skate boarding, hockey, and then off to dinner. Every night the counselors went through each cabin and got reports and sent us emails and pictures daily. We were able to email them daily and they would print the emails out and have them at their table daily for lunch. When we picked them up for the closing ceremonies, our little girl had made so many friends, and she didn't seem to miss us at all... she had a blast! Every kid gets an award at the end. It helps build friendships, fun, and lets them be kids. We will let our kids go back every chance they get!

We were given a rundown on the activities for her for the week and took a quick tour of the camp. All in all, very nice. When we picked her up she was so happy. She had the best time! She told us about swimming and boating and time at the beach. They have a skate park inside and they played basketball and just did a lot of outdoor activities. The one thing we were warned about when we picked her up was ticks. They said they have plenty of ticks since it is in the woods. After this experience I would not hesitate to send my daughter back to camp her and would love to send my son. I think he would have a blast! I wish I went to a camp like this when I was a kid... I didn't even get to go to camp.

Since it is only about 20 miles from the bridge tunnel up the shore (one of my favorite places on earth!), we decided to check it out. SO glad we did! And since admission is free, it made the bridge tunnel toll worth it! When you walk in you are greeted by the most friendly docent who gives you a brief background of the museum and what it's about. She told us they have several films and asked if we wanted to watch any of them. We did - "Our Island Home" gives you a terrific view of what life on Hog Island was like before it was abandoned from people who were actually born there. After whatever movie(s) you want to watch, you are "free range" to explore the museum. It is SO well done. I could have roamed around for longer than the 2 hours we were there (but I'm a museum reader - I have to check out everything!). Definitely allow yourself a couple of hours to explore. The exhibits are fantastic and laid out well. All artifacts were donated or on loan from actual island families - they don't purchase their artifacts. I like that. Shows the love for the community that these people have. Definitely check out the attic! There are hands on things for the kids - it's hot up there in the summer though! I was fascinated by the twisted chimney (not going to tell you why it was built that way - you'll have to go find out for yourself!). This is a GREAT little stop if you are looking for something cool to do on your way up or down Rt. 13 on your way to your vacation or a great day trip from the VA Beach area. With all their many activities and programs, we will definitely be back!

With 7 and 4 year old granddaughters I am surprised I have never visited this playplace. It's not…read morereally a cafe, I mean there are some snacks and drinks you can buy, and some tables to sit at, but they are a very underwhelming part of this venue. Located very conveniently in the end of a shopping center in the Williamsburg area of York County there is adequate parking and easy access. On entry is some type of eclectic gift shop of a sort, and a table gaming area, arcade, etc. There is comfy seating all around for adults and kids, an art area, an area for the very littles. The gated area has cozy nooks for quiet play, active play for various ages, climbing and sliding. We made our reservation online for a story telling activity with a speech therapist, who very kindly spent just few minutes after with my 4 year old who receives speech services. They also offer a preschool option we are considering. I think this cafe fills a big gap since most playplaces attached to fast food venues closed at Covid and didn't reopen. It's a great place for rainy day activity, but probably gets kind of loud and crazy on weekends especially with onsite birthday parties and such. The price point is average between free and say Busch Gardens. The preschool class once a week from 9 to 12 is $30, so $10 an hour is pretty decent. I was impressed with bathrooms that have wipes, diapers, extra onsies for baby blowouts. They sell grippy socks for kids to wear in the play space and I don't know what all. There are high chairs, lots of shoe cubbies, you name it. I think it is really best for a mobile child at least crawling to about age 5. Beyond age 5 I think many of the active centers are too boring for school age kids. But I haven't brought my 7 year old yet so I can't evaluate. Anyway, 5 stars because what could anyone improve? Great concept and something needed in communities!
