The Magnolia House - Sunday dinner

The Magnolia House on Park is a hidden gem nestled by the river at the end of the street. The covered screened-in porch is set for multi-season use, with ceiling fans and multiple fireplaces. We were promptly greeted and chose a corner table (which was custom-built from 100-year old barn wood). The menu changes daily along with a selection of entree salads. We decided to dine "family style" and chose chicken and dumplings and meatloaf. Our sides included a house salad (I had the house-made orange zest dressing; my companion chose Thousand Island), green beans, mashed potatoes, and corn. These were served with rolls that literally melted in your mouth. Before the main course was served, we enjoyed some of the best fried green tomatoes we've ever eaten. The portions are generous, and they gladly boxed up our leftovers--and I look forward to having those tomorrow. Though we were thoroughly satisfied, we were unable to pass on dessert--all homemade. I had the lemon berry mascarpone cake, which was served with a side of fresh whipped cream. My friend had the pumpkin pie--which was the perfect taste of fall. We both had Magnolia Iced tea --garnished with lemon, orange, and a sprig of organic mint. Bottomless refills are available, and our attentive server kept our glasses filled. We had the distinct pleasure of meeting the proprietor/cook, her daughter (our server) and her mother. Magnolia House on Park is a labor of love--something that shines through in every bite. Before we left, we enjoyed some retail therapy in the boutique, which features items from local artisans and books from local authors. We can't wait for our next visit!

Their hours on Sunday are 12:00 to 5:00pm. Is that crazy or what. Check before you go, hours may change and a moments notice, nothing is for sure here. Ended up going for Chinese, always open, always great food. Nice when there's no surprises and restaurants are open.

One (or maybe only!) fav place to eat at in Inez…read more I found this place 5 years ago on a market visit and since then, I've had a chance to visit it 4-5 times a year. :) It has a lot of history associated with it... Ms. Ida apparently hosted a lot of VIPs there. Looks-wise, it is nothing much. Decor-wise even worse.. pretty shabby looking furniture n all. But the food is amazing! I went there today at lunch with colleagues.. I ordered their best item I.e. Chicken salad on a croissant with seasonal fruits. Other things ordered were Teriyaki Chicken with seasonal Veges, double party hamburger, turkey burger and hamburger steak with fries and bun. Everything was great. Freshly made food in adequate quantity. Other awesome items on their menu are the onion rings and the mouth watering bread pudding.. the best I've had in WV!!! Service is slow at the best of times but pleasant. The lady at the counter needs to smile a bit and be less off-putting. The venue has an upper floor with a terrace for outdoor seating area.. is pretty to sit there in fall or when it's raining. The upper floor is also used/booked for meetings and events... but the food/catering needs to be from there.

Fuel has been in business for a few years despite a number of flaws…read more The place inexplicably closes at 8:00 pm despite the fact the Huntington restaurant crowd is still going until 10, and it's in The Market with Austin's Ice Cream and Taqueria 84, which are open later. I was in line tonight and with another person in front of me and the clock struck 8:00 and the young woman at the counter literally told us, "Sorry, that was the last customer. We close at 8." I've never been in line at a counter business in my life and been turned away because of hours. Second, the sandwiches here made with overly thick bread but the meat portions are paper thin. These are not sandwiches, they are bread with a hint of meat. I always get the pizzas here as thst is all they offer that is worthwhile. Unfortunately, though, there is... Third, they haven't changed the menu since they opened. It's bee. the same damned options for the past few years! People say they have a favorite (always pizza) at Fuel and that's because they can never get a new option. This is a lazy business that had a great beginning but one which doesn't listen to its customers at all. They've been told about the hours, the fat bread, and the lack of new options by many people, and they feign a politeness that tells you that they don't value your opinion. It gets by because it's in a town with few options and even fewer new ones.
