I always have mixed feelings about this place. They are always friendly when you are there and their prices are just average, they have let me try tools before purchasing such as a honda generator and sthil equipment. the things that I do not really like are that they can't seem to find my parts I have tried other small engine repair places and they can find my parts a lot faster. Their turnaround times for repair repairs and service are not that great. They seem like they are closed on the most important days that you need them Sunday and Monday. Parking is a little weird. Sometimes it's difficult to talk to somebody on the phone. I hope this place improves. read more

My grandmother took her riding mower to wards power equipment for an annual service (oil change, tune up, blade sharpening). The guy who picked the mower up went on vacation, so the mower didn't come back to us until 3 weeks later. Today we went to mow with it for the first time since we got it back and it completely ruined the lawn. The mower deck is completely uneven because it's missing a cotter pin, and the blades are still dull and chipped. The top of the deck is completely dirty, matted with old grass. Additionally, the drive belt was completely shredded. We paid $200 for our mower to be ruined. We will never be returning here for any kind of service. read more

I have been coming to wards for 20 years. I am so sad to say I will no longer visit there establishment I took 2 riding lawnmowers to be looked at in early may. They quoted me 2 week's to look at it and get back to me with a price. That they did. They quoted me a price and a timeframe in which I would get my mowers back which was a month. Thought that was excessive but I agreed. After a month I called to verify where they were in the repair. They said they were still waiting for parts. This went on for 3 months. Finally got them back. The repair was completed but still have problems. The whole experience was just the last straw. To bad.since their front desk person ( I think his name was Gary) left the business has gone down hill j they can't keep a mechanic on staff that knows how to repair riding mowers. read more

Gary, the owner until recently, was 5 stars. He actually worked on the equipment and knew the parts. If you needed a common part for a brand he didn't sell he would give you the part he had in stock if it would work. Imagine taking a common bolt to a hardware store and them not being able to sell you a replacement without knowing what it from. This is the new reality at Wards. The new manager knows that they stock the Stihl and Honda version of the simple part you brought to show them, but he will won't take a moment to grab it so you can see if it is close enough that it might work. I have been coming to this place since I was a child with my father. I have no idea what went wrong with this place, but I am never coming back. I have waited over a year to write this review to make sure I wasn't extremely pissed off, like the day they destroyed my new blower. I had a brand new BR 600, that was a year and a half old. It was starting to run funky, so I brought it in. After eight weeks, I called them to ask where it was at. They told me it was destroyed and wouldn't run anymore. When I asked for the blower back, they hesitated and said they weren't sure where the parts were at. When I showed up all they had was the blower nozzle and one of the back straps. They didn't have any of the other parts for me. It just disappeared. The younger people seem to have taken over the repair shop, and it shows. read more

I have a trusty Honda generator, which literally had not been tuned up for 8 years. Ward's did a great job diagnosing what was going on, replacing a few parts, and changing the oil, and basically making my generator like-new for a very reasonable price. read more

I was just reading some negative reviews about Ward's Power Equipment and I've had the opposite experiences every time I go - they've been great for us! I've had lawnmower and chainsaws worked on. I've bought Stihl equipment and parts there. I've done all my small engine and equipment business at Wards for at least a year and a half. I've always found their entire staff to be friendly, helpful, reliable and dependable - and good value! Perhaps they had a bad patch a few years ago; but, Ward's is my first choice for all my small-engine and Power Equipment needs. They're great! read more

Terrible experience!!I took a Stihl blower in to have pull cord fixed. It would no longer retract making blower unable to start. They said it may take two weeks for them to look at which I can understand in the spring. Finally three weeks later they called and the repair bill was $43 . I took it home and a week later went to use it and on the first pull the cord came loose. I took it to Johnsons who fixed it on the spot for $2.23. apparently all Wards did was push the cord back into the housing and charge me $43.00. STAY AWAY! read more

I had to have a cable replaced on my lawn mower. They quoted about $100 with tax and it would be ready in 7 to 10 days. They called me on day 8 that it was ready and charged me $100.37. They were right on the money, no B.S. I have been doing business with them since 1997 and they have always been spot on. There may be cheaper places to go but if you want no games, no B.S., this is the place to go! read more

My wife bought a Honda Trimmer and a bunch of blades at Ward's. The young one needs more experience. The older one got her blades and trimmer that we needed. She's pretty happy about the whole buying experience at Ward's. The trimmer I guess needs a separate review since it's a Honda.... read more

Stay away from Wards! This place once had a fine reputation, but my experience was horrendous. I'll try to keep this short: In April, I took my Toro lawnmower in for a Spring tune-up, as it was getting hard to start. Three weeks later I picked it up (they had accurately predicted it would be three weeks) and the problems began. When I picked it up, it was leaking gas from the carb. The mechanic took it back into the shop "to replace the gasket;" when he brought it back, it started fine and ran perfectly, but when I got it home I saw that it was still leaking gas. I took it back and asked that they fix the gas leak. The mechanic took a wrench to it with all his strength and broke a fitting on the carburetor. "Darn, now I'll have in install a new carb," was his reaction. Because I was leaving town soon, I told him I really needed the mower in three days and was assured that it would be ready. Calling three days later I was told my mower was next in line for the mechanic, that it would be repaired that afternoon if the mechanic had time, but he was really busy so they probably weren't going to get to it, and they were closed for the next two days. When I said that was unacceptable based on what he'd told me three days before, the mechanic said actually they didn't have a carburetor for it because they couldn't just get one overnight (which is BS; I can get one via the Internet overnight). Now, if they couldn't get a carb overnight, why was I told three days earlier that they could and the mower would be ready? And if they didn't have a carb, why did he tell me it was next in line and would be repaired that afternoon if the mechanic had time? Then the mechanic told me it was my fault because the mower was in such bad shape with so many problems three days before they couldn't get it fixed so quickly. When I pointed out that it was in fine shape until he broke the carburetor, he said, Yes, he was the one who broke it, maybe that was the problem, and he would have it ready the following weekend. It was ready the next weekend. I had a friend pick it up (I was out of town for an extended period) and try it. The mower revved so high he stopped it before it tore itself apart. Back it went. When he got it back, it ran so slowly it wouldn't mow. Back again. When my friend picked it up (now the fourth time it had been in the shop) the mechanic started it to show it would start, but that was the last time it started. So now, after four stays at Wards, I have a mower that won't start, even though after the first stay there it was fine, except for that gas leak that started all the problems. Every "fix" since has only caused different problems. And the "new" carburetor is not new - it's the same one that was one there, evidenced by the fact that it is covered with grease and oil which was on there after the mower's three-week stay the first time. Evidently they were able to repair it, though I use the word "repair" with caution, since the mower really hasn't worked since. I pulled the cover off the float chamber and found the reason for the leak: one gasket was tattered, the other broken; they clearly were not replaced during the tune-up. I have a new carb coming ($16 via the Internet; I can get one, even if Ward's cannot). I'll update this review when I get it installed and see if it works. I suppose I could take it back a fifth time and ask Wards to fix it, but really, why would I do that? I was flat-out lied to about when it would be ready, and clearly they had no desire to really fix it once they had my money. There are reputable places that do good work and are truthful to their customers; Ward's is not one of them. Update: I bought a new carburetor ($16) on the Internet, installed it (30 minutes) and the mower runs fine. I'm thinking if it's that easy, maybe I should open a Toro repair shop to compete with Wards. read more

This place is the worst on customer service if you don't fit their white bread normal customer appearance.I grew up in this area and know that Wards is a community icon, they have been servicing the community for generations. So it was a complete disappointment to find out how we were treated. We went in there to see about them tuning up our riding lawn mower that we inherited, via the purchase of our house. It was a Yard Machine, which is not the most durable or most expensive. Not something I would personally buy, but it was doing the job we needed it for just fine! So wanting to get it ready for the season we asked them what it would cost to tune it up, sharpen blades, and replace belts. They said, esentially, that the product we owned was a piece and that it would be cheaper to just get a new riding mower, no doubt one they had on their showroom floor. Since they wern't interested in helping us tune up our mower we decided to get the parts and do it ourselves, via ordering a couple pulley belts. They helped us find the belts we needed and ordered them in. We waited weeks, finally we called and asked, they said they had already given them to us. Turns out they switched tickets and had called the wrong person and sold our belts to them. So they called that person and told him of their mistake, he brought the belts back and we came and picked them up. Took them home, put them on and they were all to narrow to properly seat in the pulley wheels. So we took them off and returned them, or I should say we tried to return them for the correct belts. They said they were the correct belts and that we, essentially, were just stupid girls and were not putting them on right. So we took them back home and called out mechanic friend just to make sure the 'stupid girls' were indeed putting it all together correctly. He found the same issue, that the belt would not properly move the pulley wheels and failed to work correctly. Returned, once again, to just get the right belts and they said they were right and would not offer any alternatives nor give us our money back. At that point we stated that we would work with our bank to get a proper refund since they were not willing to supply the appropriate part. Thats when the young employee (he has facial piercings)started getting crazy and yelling that he would call the cops if we didn't get out of the store and never to come back. Took in my cal trimmer for a adjust tune up because my chain was repeatedly falling off and also for a blade sharpening. When I picked up the machine the blades were sharpened and so I took it home. 3 feet into mowing my lawn the chain fell off which obviously hasn't been touched, went to take off the chain cover and one of the bolts was only installed halfway and the other nut was completely missing. Called to explain the situation and they said " deal with it" since I didn't have my original receipt, terrible business practice when not only did they fail to fix what I went it there for but also failed to put my mower back together the properly! read more

I took a Craftsman rototiller in because I could not start it after it had been sitting for three years. I told them that it didn't work the counter guy asked if the starter rope pulled, I told him yes it fired but only for a second, he said it would be two and a half weeks or so, I said fine. Two and a half weeks later Wards called me and said my rototiller was ready. I payed $238 picked it up and brought it home. It started and seemed to run fine but would not go into gear. I called them and they said I would have to bring it back in for them to look at, their mechanic looked at it and said she would call later in the day. Two days later I called to inquire and was told that someone knew the transaxle/transmission was broken and that it was brought in broken. My response was that it had been in my possession since new (8 years) and when I parked it it was working. He inferred that I was trying to get one over on them by bringing in a broken rototiller to fix (go figure). I feel the experience with Wards was define by incompetence and unprofessional ism. Incompetent because the mechanic did not check out to see if the mechanical part worked or not, and unprofessional because the counter person over the phone tried to put it back on me by saying that I knew it was broken when I brought it in.I would not deal with this place under any circumstances. read more

No customer service here. As it was poor when I dropped off my mower, it got worse. When I picked up my mower he collected my $170 with no thank you. After getting it home it was not fixed. Had to take it back, no apology made. They has to order a part and said it would be ready in 3 days. On day 4, I had to call to ask or was ready and it was. Picked it up and again just game me the mower, no apology or anything. How rude and lacking any service. Stay away from this business. read more

I have never had to mow the yard for myself before. But with times as they are its time to pinch pennies. When I walked into Ward's I felt unsure and confused. But the knowledge that the employees had of their equipment put my mind at ease. When I went to Home Depot and Lowes I could never find anyone to answer the questions I had. Not only did the people at Wards show me and tell me about the mower, they let me start and run it also. How wonderful. I love my new mower. Thanks for all of the help. I will be back.
