I received an hour long massage as a gift from my girlfriend last week, and went in Thursday for my appointment with Leah (prounounced like Leia from Star Wars, how cool is that?!?). :) Being my first professional massage of my life, I was a little bit unsure what to expect, but I was excited to try it, as I've been curious about it for some time now. I have a bothersome lower back that tenses up and pops almost daily, and I was really hoping this would be a positive step to fixing my problem. The studio was very peaceful, with eastern influences and art that set the tone of relaxation. Leah offered me tea or water when I arrived, and had me fill out a quick form to indicate my level of health and where my troublesome areas were...as well as a brief outline of my expectations. We discussed my back and some potential causes then headed to the massage table. The music was a peaceful quiet chant, the room was comfortable, clean, and refreshing...and the massage was outstanding! I can't say enough about how much it exceeded my expectations. You could tell that she had a passion for her art. She worked her way up and down my back, focusing on the left side of my lower back that was clearly stressed. I practically fell into hypnosis after like 5 minutes...only coming to when she'd inquire about my comfort with the level of pressure. She did an amazing job catering to the areas I expressed concern about, and found a few that I didn't even know were hurting. I had initially thought that an hour might be lengthy for a first massage, but when she indicated she was done, I could hardly believe it had already been an hour, a bit longer in fact. That was four days ago and my back feels better than it has in a long time. I'll definitely be returning as often as I can. I'd recommend Zen and Leah to anyone from the those suffering to chronic pain or discomfort like myself, to just wanting to relax after a hard week/month. 5 stars without a doubt! David has a great passion for what he does for a living and it reflects in his massages. There are a lot of massage people out there and if you are really in need of a true "therapeutic Massage" you will soon learn the difference of what a true therapeutic massage is and should be. I drive for a living and one year I managed to get a kink in my neck so bad that I could not lift my head off the pillow. That was when I realized just how heavy your head really is. Okay, so I've been seeing David for just shy of a year now. I go every single month (yeah, he's THAT good) and I just wanted to say that he is STILL amazing. I went in this morning for a couple trouble spots and some general work and everywhere he hit was perfect. He started with my back (which I didn't realize was bad) and worked out these knots that cause my back to go out EVERY YEAR. I have no doubt that he prevented that from happening this year. This massage was BRUTAL (but David adjusts pressure for clients and is really good about checking in periodically). When one muscle wasn't responding, he attacked a different one and then kind of caught the muscle off-guard and got it to give. Freaking phenomenal. New levels of AWESOME were hit today. I recommend David and Leah to anyone who mentions sore muscles or massage, so if you're here looking for a good massage therapist, do yourself a favor and just book it here. I've had a few massages from Leah now and I can say she's one of the best massage therapists I've ever had. Her Taisu specialty mat massage is my favorite, and is far more relaxing and beneficial than the Thai massages I've had at the places where you get stepped on with bone-crushing weight somehow by a tiny Thai lady. Leah is great at catering her massage to your needs. I recently broke my arm and had invasive surgery, and I trusted no one other than Leah to give me my first massage in months after the injury, and she was able to melt away so much of the soreness and pain in my arm that I had been dealing with since the surgery. Leah treats her clients with a great deal of care, you may even get some perks for being a returning customer. I'm definitely looking forward to my next massage. As a low maintenance guy, I am not one to seek out things like manicures, pedicures, massages, etc. When I do seek out massage, it is typically because I am injured. I have a recurring deltoid injury in my shoulder and when I pull the muscle, it hurts a lot, swells up very quickly and causes my neck to lean to one side like a strange puppet gone wrong. Almost two years ago, I pulled the muscle and wasn't sure who to call. A friend recommended David Warder of Warder Bodywork. I was a little bit apprehensive going to a male therapist because every other massage I have had was a relaxation massage, on a table, without my clothes, which is a bit awkward. When I arrived to David's studio I was pleasantly surprised that I not only got to keep my clothes on, but that David uses a form of massage called shiatsu which takes place on a mat on the floor. This gives him the leverage to put a little bit of a pressure or a lot of pressure, using his body weight, rather than just squeezing with his hands. After just one treatment David was able to restore over half of my range of motion. As swelling went down over a few days, I felt normal again. I had a 60-minute massage with Leah last Thursday. I work in the industry and I have access to massages on a frequent basis. The massage I had from Leah was one of the best I have ever received. From the very beginning, when I booked the massage, I felt taken care of. I was sent a helpful reminder email a couple of days before my massage. When I entered the tranquil spa last Thursday where Leah has her practice, she greeted me warmly and offered me water and/or tea. We went over my reasons for needing a massage (neck and shoulder tension) and I was shown the way to her comfortable, serene therapy room. Leah has the gift of giving a massage that is both relaxing and therapeutic. Some other therapists mistakenly believe that they have to "hurt" their clients in order to address their issues. That tactic just leaves me tense and sore - not really what I want out of a massage. However, Leah effectively uses different techniques that smooth out tense areas and trigger points with appropriate pressure and a flow that really puts her client at ease. I had also explained to her that I am ticklish which can be challenging for some therapists but not for Leah. I did not tense up or squirm once. After the massage, she offered me more water as hydrating is very important after bodywork. I felt great for the rest of the day, actually for the next few days. On Sunday, she even sent a personalized email checking in on how I was doing and reminded me of the suggestions she made about altering my computer set-up at work to help ease my neck and shoulder tension. I've been worked on by Leah and David now and they are both fantastic. They are able release knots without the pressure being painful. Leah integrated a little stretching into the massage which was amazing and I'm planning on getting a Thai massage next. It was more then just relaxing (which it was) it was therapeutic. I love massages. When I had my first massage with Leah it was absolutely awesome. It was also super nice after the massage that she took the time to share her thoughts on why she thought certain areas on my body carried more tension than others. She had some valuable tips and ideas on what I can do in between massages in order to feel better. I appreciated the care and concern she had for my well being. Sometimes when I get a massage I figure once it is over and the hour is up and the therapist gets paid I am no longer in their radar (which I didn't expect other!) But surprisingly I do not believe that is true of Leah. She loves what she does and truly cares about her clients. I have major lower back and upper neck problems due to a house crushing me and then again, a mechanic's truck running me over. I went in last Friday because I have been in pain for over three weeks with a torn muscle in the middle of my back affecting my neck problem. I was hoping that at least after walking out of there I would feel a little less discomfort. what happened was halfway through the massage I started realizing all the pain was disappearing and sporadic spots as I was getting my massage done. by the time I was off the table up and walking around I could actually hold my head in an upright proper position. truly amazing every time I go there , why I don't do it more often to relieve more pain is beyond me. Just finished my 3rd massage from David. He worked out some major kinks the Friday prior to my 11 mi El Capitan hike and it totally allowed me to kick some major butt up and down this monster of a hike. I went to see Leah Warder after waking up a straight week with back pain. When I arrived Leah was warm and welcoming and the office was so inviting and calming, it all put you at easy immediately. We found David through our Physical Therapist. My daughter is a softball pitcher. She has played the game for 10+ years. I thought she was in need of PT again. Her velocity just wasn't the same. After checking with our PT therapist, he said she was too tight and needed massage therapy, not PT. The first session she felt great. After her third session her range improved, she was throwing harder than in months. David has showed her new stretches and ways to loosen up on her own. But, she still is asking when is my next appointment? We have been to other massage places. They do not know how to isolate a problem area and treat it. They just do the whole shoulder area as a routine customer. David will look for her areas that are tight. One time it is the neck. The next time it is the front bicep. He looks at her whole being.
