We have two 100 feet+ Douglas Fir trees in our backyard (along with many others in the country club next door) and a recent wind storm sent a broken limb ("widow maker") either from higher in the same tree or from another tree. This limb was snagged within the tree and was precariously balanced over couple of the lower branches about 40 to 45 feet above the ground. To remove this hazard, I called 5 tree care specialist companies to obtain estimates. Some companies have such high minimum charge (over $500) that I had to eliminate them immediately. Moreover, these big operation companies were not interested in such a small scale job. Couple of other companies were more accommodating and also cheaper, yet I felt that the people I spoke to were not as knowledgeable and/or lacked professionalism. Also, I wanted to hire a company that uses spurless climbing so that there is no damage to the tree bark. Although Ward Tree Care was not the cheapest, I was impressed with the owner's (Chris Ward) professionalism and quick response and I hired him right away after receiving a written quote. In addition, the written quote was detailed and organized well so that there was no confusion as to the services to be rendered. Other company's quotes were mostly hand-written and lacked polish. The broken limb was taken care of by Jared and Adam; both of whom were courteous and efficient at their jobs. Furthermore, both guys gave me tips on how to prune some of the other trees in my garden. I wholeheartedly recommend this company for tree pruning and "widow maker" removal service. The company is not only efficient and knowledgeable about its business, but also seeing a guy being suspended high above with a single rope can be entertaining as well; it was as if I were watching a National Geographic documentary featuring a naturalist climbing giant Redwood trees. read more

I have a huge, very old magnolia tree in my front yard that a main branch snapped off of in the last major snow storm we had. I wanted a company that was arborist certified & they are! The crew that did our tree work had a "team" oriented work process. The tree climber was in communication with the ground crew via radio communications. No hollering down to the crew. As he trimmed and lowered branches, the crew was given a heads up to clear the immediate area. Once the coast was clear, they moved in to haul away the limbs and debris continually. I called and left a message regarding three trees that needed to be removed from my backyard. After 2 business days I called back as I had already heard from the other two bidders and wanted a third. I spoke with the gentleman who answered the phone. He said he'd come out, take a look at the trees and give me a bid within 3-4 days. I never heard back. On the 4th day, I called again and left a message asking if I would be getting a bid. Nothing. Currently, my bids are between $4500 and $6500. Evidently, Ward Tree Care is too busy to worry about following through with doing this work. I would not recommend them! read more

I called asking about their ADVERTISED free estimates. The person on the phone said that he wanted to make sure I was invested in getting the work done before he came out. Not something required for a FREE estimate. But I figured, hey, he's just trying to run his business, and I really need the work done, so I set an appointment for later in the week. I waited at home ALL DAY and no one from Ward Tree Care had the courtesy to even call, much less come out and do the estimate. I think I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

They did a terrible job pruning trees in my garden! I will never ever ask them again. I had wasted more than $５00 and I had to prune again by myself after a month they came!! Chris seemed to be a trustworthy guy when he came for an estimation but it was his part-time crews who did actual work. They did not know anything about pruning aesthetically but just randomly cutting branches which made my trees look awful. When I ordered them which branches they can cut, they said "Gee, he has eyes for trees!" what kind of comment is that? We had also asked him to remove some of dead tree stamps but he did not include it in his estimation, therefore the estimation came up very reasonable so we had hired him. When we found out he had actually omitted the removal and we asked him to complete the work we wanted to be, he started to backfire saying we do not respect him! He is the one who did not respect his clients. He said he has a ph.D and he cannot even do a simple work like this? Called for an estimate to remove two large trees. No problem - they would send someone out to look at the potential job between 1 and 4 o'clock the next day. I spent the afternoon waiting for them. Never received the courtesy of a call to explain that they might not make the agreed time frame. At 4:20 I called to find out what was wrong. They said they had something else they were doing and could make it out to see my job about 5:30. I told them not to bother. If they can't keep their agreed upon commitments, I don't want to do business with them. read more
