Knocked once didn't ring the doorbell instead he knocked once then left his card. I ran out and started yelling and waiving and he just smashed on the gas as if he didn't see me. They didn't need my business obviously because when I called them and said your guy just pulled off can you tell him to come back they said sure let me call him. Everything about my experience with AK Timber went right. Two large tree limbs had fallen on my roof from a very tall tree, and needed removing. I reached the owner, Aaron, by phone, and we set up an appointment for an estimate visit only a day or two later. On the estimate day, he phoned to say he would be 15 minutes late, and he was true to his word. I can appreciate it that contractors can run late; I want them to spend as much time with their clients and potential clients (ie, people like me) as needed. The estimate visit went well, he told me exactly what they would do, what it would cost. He followed up with a written estimate. After reviewing my other bids, I scheduled the work with AK Timber. The crew was punctual and worked together like a machine. There was a climber and 3 cutters. They rigged the fallen limbs properly so that they would not damage my house, fence or any other property when they came down. The removed all wood and chipped it. They swept my roof, and removed all debris from my backyard, all the while being pleasant and answering all my questions. With two large oak trees in our yard and winter fast approaching we had the crew from AK Timber come out to access the health of the trees and work needed to keep them from losing limbs and branches during inclement weather. We asked AK for a quote to take down a tree. He came out on a weekend which we appreciated because we wanted to get the job done soon. He told us he would return a quote in the next day or two. After several days I reach out to them and they said they would have it to us the next day. A few more days go by and when I called them they gave the exact same response. Another week goes by and they were very apologetic and promised I'd have a quote by the end of the day. A week later, still nothing. I contacted Aaron and made an appointment to evaluate three trees (2 birch and 1 maple). He didn't show up for the first appointment. I gave him a second chance and made another appointment. He showed up before I got home and I was a half an hour early. Needless to say, I never met him. His evaluations was...shocking. He told me my three maple trees looked healthy. The problem is: One is an Oregon Ash, one maple is dead, and the last one needs to be thinned or pruned. I would not recommend AK Timber. Why? I had called 3 companies, asking for a quote to have a tree removed in my back yard in Vancouver and one of them was AK Timber Services. I was given a 2 hour window that they were supposed to arrive the next day for an estimate. When the time arrived, Aaron called and said he had an emergency with his crew in Washougal and couldn't make the appointment. I told him it was ok to come out anytime later. He said he would be there as soon as he could. Then he called me again over an hour later and said he had to cancel my appointment because he was late getting out of a Doctor's appointment. I don't think he realized he was calling the same person he had called earlier. I told him we had talked earlier and he laughed and said "Oh, yeh, that's right." It sounded like he was using two different excuses for not showing up, thinking he was calling a 2nd missed appointment and not realizing he had called the same person. In spite of all this, I still told him he could come over later and look at the job, and he said he would. Never saw him after that, didn't get a courtesy call and haven't heard from him since. read more

Trimmed up a Pin Oak and Plum tree. Did exactly what the bid entailed, cleaned up their mess and it was reasonably priced. Gave 4 stars for a couple of reasons, 1. Employees should not be smoking on the job, it's just unprofessional and 2. The plum tree isn't exactly what I had expected. Bid states thin & reduce. I see where it was thinned but do not see where it was reduced? I anticipate having to have it trimmed up again next spring to keep it away from the house. read more
