They were easy to work with, good communication and took care of removing a tree stump at a great value. I would work with them again!

I reached out to Samsara as a new homeowner in the area back in July. I had 3 very large (one giant) Doug Firs on my property which bordered 2 of my neighbors, and they needed to be pruned. I gathered 4 different quotes, and theirs was right in the middle. I felt really comfortable talking with Ben- a senior arborist and climber-about the job. This was probably the main reason I went with Samsara. On the day of the job 5 young gentlemen reported for duty. They spent from 0900 to about 1600 to prune the trees, There were 2 climbers. After I inspected- I felt there was a little more that could be done to the largest of the 3 Firs. I asked for Ben to come out to assess the job. He said they did great on the upper limbs but saw my concern for the lowers and agreed to come back. I also had him look at a Blue Spruce on the street side of my property that I discovered had some sort of root rot (continuous water engagement) and a pretty severe lean and he agreed it could be a concern. I received a second quote for this work and it was more than reasonable. They scheduled me within 2 weeks- which was today- and I was amazed at the quick work they made of these two elements of the job. Ben was the climber/detailer for the big Fir, and two other gentlemen made quick work of the Spruce removal. Very, very minimal disruptions for my neighbors on the roadway! Also, I have to say that the estimates they provided for both jobs were very detailed and included lot photos and tree site identification- by far the most professional of all the quotes I received. I'm very happy with the work they have done and will continue to use them as the need arises whether for planned (or unplanned) tree maintenance and emergencies. 100% recommend! read more

We are so glad we chose Samsara. We got 3 bids and they had the best price and the best manner. . Quality work, good price . Arborist who made estimate/contract, also worked onsite with crew . No surprises, everything done per contract . Crew coordinated, experienced . High confidence in Samara; will definitely use again! What a relief to get exactly what was in the bid from a friendly, professional, hardworking crew. I'd give 10 stars if I could read more

Did not follow thru fast enough. By the time the company responded I had already given the job to another company.

We booked Samsara to come prune a few large trees encroaching on our roof. They came by and set up Do Not Park signs along our entire block. About an hour later, a woman I had never spoken to before informed me that our appointment was cancelled and she couldn't say when we'd get a new one. I asked if they could retrieve the signs and she did a whole stupid show of needing to hang up, speak to someone, and call me back to tell me no. We live near a hospital and there was a worker's strike happening, so that parking space was pretty precious to my community. We went out and picked up all the splintery, dirty signs and put them away. We were told to put them back out a few days later for our new appointment, so we did. A few hours later they cancelled on us again - citing a big job they hadn't managed to finish that they'd be wrapping up tomorrow instead. Once again, TBD on our new appointment time. At that point, I told them not to bother. That this was extremely disrespectful and unprofessional, and I no longer wanted to work with them. It was then that the owner started blowing up my phone, offering to be at our home at 8am the next day to do the work at a discount if we would still have them. He called me at least 3 times and texted several times in the span of just a few minutes until I blocked him. Just end to end terrible service and absolutely wild behavior. Another reviewer mentioned that the owner becomes "unhinged" and I would agree. (He also loves to gaslight and try to discredit negative reviews) He was lovely during the quote, but the calls were totally inappropriate and unprofessional. No means no, friend. Edit: Since the company would like to lie and discredit their negative reviewers, I've attached the email with my quote approval to show I approved the quote and booked Samsara. Furthermore, it doesn't shock me that you have zero women working with you - the woman I spoke with on the phone was probably someone's partner filling in. She seemed totally overwhelmed. Nor does it surprise me that you can't find my quote (#4878) when you can't even spell my name properly, despite it being right there in front of you. A mess of an operation. read more

Stylish haircut for trees. Also they were pretty focused on minimal load reduction of the most risky trees.

The team at Samsara Tree Care is communicative, professional and skilled! Excellent deep pruning of my neighbor's giant old Walnut tree on both sides of our shared fence, and the cleanup left my yard sparkling! Highly recommend! read more

Thought my earlier post went up. Guess not. Well, these guys did a great job removing 60 ft fir tree from neighbors yard blocking a Mt Hood view. Ben and Devin were great with their service , efficiency and responsiveness. Highly recommend and fair pricing! read more

Truly amazing experts, at a time of crisis. I'm not even sure where to start, the Samsara team it truly amazing in every way (in the middle of an area crisis when dealing with hundreds of people with incredible issues). They came quickly, assessed, clarity on estimates to allow working with insurance, and then worked day/night to get cranes and other critical equipment for a truly difficult job with wave after wave of storms. They moved heaven and earth to save my house and the level of expertise was unparalleled. Watching their teams do the impossible was incredible, they worked so hard, so carefully, so thoughtfully in post clearn up. I cannot recommend them highly enough. This is the company you want be it crisis or day to day needs Thank you to the team read more

I was happy with the initial tree trimming and told I should wait until November to trim boxwoods and Japanese maple and other bushes because of heat. The original job cost me over 1800.00 So I waited and then I got a quote for just the bushes and was shocked at the price for instance just the boxwood hedge was 500.00 all in all would have been over 3500$. I can't recommend your company because of outrageous prices! I understand the high price of tree trimming and large hedges. But the small bushes...too much! read more

Jacob and his crew were awesome! I worked on getting several estimates for giving some love to our 3 cedars and a couple japanese maples - Jacob's quote was very competitive. He gave me a proper download on tree care during our appt. and took the necessary time to walk me through his recommendations and answer all of my questions. He showed up with a solid crew, as scheduled, and took care of business. If you need any work done, I'd HIGHLY recommend calling Samsara for an estimate - they'll definitely take care of you. Thanks again Jacob! read more

I really wish I didn't have to write this review. I used Samsara once for some tree work at home, and the arborists that came out did a decent job. The issue is the office/management. Our neighbor had them remove a tree on our property, and it went fine, but they never followed up when I asked about having them plant a new tree. I followed up after a few months, and got it scheduled. I told him a different day would be better, as I wouldn't be at the office that day, but he said I didn't need to be there. I received a bill that said it was due that day, but I was out of the office that week, and was going to take care of it when I returned. I then received an email stating I was "past due" five days later. Still whatever, but then I got back to the office and they planted a tree that was questionable for whether or not it would meet the requirements of the permit. In looking at it, I saw the price tag, which showed a price of $25 less than I was charged. I reviewed the bill more closely, and saw that they charged $50 for what couldn't have been more than $25 of materials. I questioned this, and Devin got very defensive, saying that his time added to the price of materials. The time was part of the quote - obtaining and installing the tree was quoted, plus materials. If the quote said something like "materials will be charged at cost plus 10%" like can be standard with construction contracts, fine, but it didn't. Instead, the response was "Regardless of cost, we offer a service and set the price of these materials and service as we see fit. We charge more for these materials than we pay because we spent the time to acquire them and supply you with them. We are running a business after all." I told him I would pay the bill if & when the tree was approved by the city as meeting the permit requirements. He seemed to agree to this. When the city approved the permit last Friday, I intended to come into the office Monday morning and pay the bill. Before I was able to do this, I got a threatening voicemail from Devin that stated he was taking my "nonpayment very seriously since [I] had stated I may not pay the bill." I said I would pay if and when the permit cleared; if that is a threat of nonpayment, there's a problem here, because they shouldn't expect payment if they don't do the work properly, until it is fixed. He continued to lie to me - stating he had "no contact from me" even though he was responding to an email chain where I had contacted him. He then got unhinged. Highlights from him: "The price of materials is a moot point. We supply the materials, therefore we set the price of those materials," and "I will add that in order to plant the tree where you requested we needed to grind additional roots that were not in the original stump grinding area of the tree that was removed. Normally it is an additional $125.00 minimum to even take the stump grinder off the trailer. We chose not to charge you that fee but can add it to your bill if you continue to make threats to not pay your current bill in full." We paid for stump grinding and asked them to plant the tree very close to where the old came out, so they didn't do the stump grinding right the first time and now he's just threatening to charge more for not doing it right the first time? I expect to receive more threats while waiting for the check to clear. He emailed me 97 minutes after a previous email because I hadn't responded yet, and this is likely to continue. If you're going to run a successful business, you need to be good at both what you do, and how you run your business. This business, unfortunately, doesn't do the business part right. read more

Totally professional. When I was getting different bids to limb up my Douglas fir, they let me know where they would be making cuts and the rationale behind it. Also, the quote itself provided all the details. The work itself was done methodically and efficiently. Many thanks! for a job well done. read more

We needed a number of big Doug fir and Oaks, including a tricky mix of an Oak and Fir with combined roots and merged lower trunks, for a house we just recently moved to. I got 3 estimates, and Samsara showed much more knowledge about what we needed; much more knowledgable than the other firms. Their bid was also somewhat lower than the others. We had to wait 90 days to get fit in, and when the date came, it was right in the 2024 wind and snow/ice storm. They were great communicators, got the job done much earlier than we expected given the emergency jobs they had. In short, they took a lot of wood and branches, rebalanced these big trees, raised the canopy on 2 others, and cleaned up nicely - a 5-hour job. Ben brought a huge crew and lots of equipment, and took good care about neighbors' yards and access. I highly recommend them, and they'll be our go-to tree resource from here on. read more

I got calls back from several tree trimming services and samsara replied promptly and were more professional w their scheduling. Their quote was reasonable and in range of some of the other quotes I got. They were extremely professional and knowledgeable about trees and mitigating some of the hazards that I have in my mature trees. I can highly recommend them for your project and would use them again. read more

Our experience with Samsara Tree Care was outstanding. The initial response to our inquiry was quick and professional. Ben, showed up on schedule and was thorough and knowledgeable about the trees & shrubs we needed evaluated. I appreciated that his focus was on the health and safety of our trees, and that he didn't try to talk us into having more work done than was necessary. After going through the same site evaluation with two other companies, it was even more clear that Samsara was going to achieve the results we were looking for with this project. We considered quotes from three firms, and we decided to go with Samsara's because of their excellent reviews, the in-person site walk and their reasonable estimate. We are absolutely satisfied with the beautiful work the team did. We had two Acers (one a Japanese maple), a dogwood and several cedar trees trimmed. They were all artfully done and the crew were quick and left everything clean and beautiful. We also had two small trees and a shrub removed and another large old stump removed. These were done on a separate day but again the work was quick and clean. Due to some miscommunication, a couple of stumps were missed but the company promptly came back to remove the last two stumps again quickly and cleanly. I highly recommend Samsara Tree Care and will happily use them again for my future tree projects. read more

Awesome service! After scheduling somebody to come and look at a tree I wanted removed they came and gave me a couple options, explaining everything well and a very reasonable quote. Samsara Tree Care did an excellent job, from the initial consult, working within my schedule & fantastic communication. They showed up early, we came to consensus on there overall strategy for the day. They brought plenty manpower & got the job done faster than expected. Afterwards they cleaned up, summarized what had been accomplished, emailed me my receipt and I was able to pay online with no hassles. This is one of the best experiences I've had with contractors in the 20+ years I've been in this 100+ year old house. I would highly recommend them. Heck, they made my neighbor happy. read more

After seeing the fantastic work Samsara did on a neighbor's tree I knew without a doubt they were who to call when I decided to have the 3 80-year old Doug Firs on my property taken care of. They thinned the load of the branches and removed a considerable amount of deadwood from the trees, which had not received care in decades. The Samsara team was courteous, professional, knowledgeable, informative, easy to communicate with, had great response times, and were affordable as compared to other estimates from far less experienced and professional "arborists." I care about these trees greatly and will not hesitate to use Samsara for future needs for them and the others on our property. read more

Efficient, safe, and WELL worth the price. A team just came out to remove a dead tree that had been planted very close to my house, and prune another on my property. It was a narrow space and a tight job, but they did fantastic work keeping my home safe while doing the work. We got cheaper bids, and I admit I got nervous spending the money - but when I saw exactly what they were doing, with what tools, I was like, of course. It costs money to do things RIGHT - a huge spider crane was needed to do the work without impacting my home. The crew was fast, courteous, and thoughtful in their work. They left my yard cleaner than when they got here! I'd hire them again in a heartbeat, and recommend them again and again. read more

We recently bought a new house in Vancouver and the neighbor has a huge, overgrown tree that is draped across our yard. We called Samsara, they came out promptly and gave us a quote that was very reasonable. They came out several weeks later, and did an amazing job! The whole experience was better than I could have expected. They were great at communicating both before and during the trimming. The crew was professional, friendly and worked hard to make sure everything was done correctly and safely. They also made recommendations on what would be best for the tree as it continues to grow. Once they left, we had a beautiful tree and a clean yard. I definitely recommend them and will use them again when the situation arises. read more

I probably have 10 good things to say about Samsara, but I'll start with one. They are EXCELLENT! On Tuesday Dec 27, around 10am, our giant 50-year-old Douglas Fir tree in the backyard fell and crushed our detached garage in half, yes, in half. (See pictures) My husband called a couple of arborists and Stephen showed up first to look at the damage. He gave us a quote the next day. His estimate was so professional and thorough, and we could send it to our insurance and got approved almost right away. They came out on Monday to remove it. We were IMPRESSED! There were 5 of them (one a woman, which I celebrate), one small Vermeer whatchamacallit with the grabber to remove the trunks and a couple chain saws. It took them less than 5 hours to get everything out and clean up! I thought it would take them 2 days. Jacob and Stephen (and their team) sure do know what they're doing. Think about it. When something like this happen (and I'm telling you Portlanders-with-big-trees-in-their-property out there, this might happen to you. Our tree looked solid and happy and we never thought it would ever fall down), what we need is someone to come out and tell us it's gonna be okay, help us work with the insurance, be empathetic and considerate on the day of the removal, and tell us what the heck happened to our beloved tree! When I was out there mourning our tree with a baffled look on my face, both Stephen and Jacob walked over and showed me the root rot, which might be one of the reasons it fell down and they are seeing other Douglas Fir of the same size falling down around Portland like they've never seen before. To hear from the arborists who saw big trees fall down all the time that our situation is epic, but also happening across town, is such a a relief. That being said, I say call them, use them, talk to them. They have a lot of knowledge and they are funny and kind. Which is what we need. Kindness and laughter, especially while recovering from a disaster. read more

Jacob of Samsara Tree Care is a true professional and also a very nice man to work with. We obtained quotes from three companies to maintain our very large Douglas Fir trees and several ornamental trees on our property. Jacob was by far the most thorough in walking the property with us and taking time to explain his recommendations for each of our trees. His quote was detailed and his pricing was very fair compared to the other two quotes we received. Our schedule had to be adjusted because of the January storms, but they were clear in communicating as the schedule changed. Jacob and his crew arrived yesterday and did a fantastic job! We walked the property when the crew arrived and confirmed the scope of work. Jacob and his crew were careful to protect our landscape lighting, deck and fences during their work. Our three large trees required a lot of thinning of dead branches and they were very careful when dropping large limbs with ropes. The crew was also very thorough in cleaning up debris at the end of the day. We requested the wood chips to spread around our property and they dropped the load in our driveway for us. I whole heartedly recommend Samsara and will be calling on them regularly to help maintain our trees. read more

The best, on time, on budget, great results. Nice team, spent time and took great care to do the best job possible.

The Samsara team did an excellent and acrobatic job taking down two nuisance trees on our property line that were over 90 feet tall. I'm extremely impressed with the team. Steve and Jacob run a great outfit. The communication on the estimate and days leading up to the job was excellent. They swarmed our 7 large trees with a pretty big crew. I was impressed with their team pre-briefing (including one of the owners reminded everyone to get stretched out before they started getting their gear on). The communication between the team members was great especially given this is dangerous work. Jacob's communication with me on what they were seeing also was great. Site clean-up amazing.
