I never write reviews but thought the community should know. I've been into Pokémon cards for quite a while, so I was excited to take my girlfriend's kids to this shop for their very first pack-opening experience. Unfortunately, the visit was disappointing from the moment we arrived. The storefront looked boarded up with wood covering much of the exterior, and it was so dark inside that I honestly couldn't tell if the store was open. Once inside, my girlfriend's son politely asked the employee behind the counter how much a pack cost. The employee responded with, "I can guarantee it's more than you have in your wallet." I was shocked by how rude and dismissive that was, especially toward a kid. That's not the kind of welcome I would expect from an employee. I then told him I wanted to purchase three Prismatic Evolutions packs. He looked at me and said, with an attitude, "You know they're like $20 each, right?" I told him that was fine, but the interaction left a bad impression. What should have been a fun and memorable experience for the kids turned into an uncomfortable one because of the poor customer service. I spent $100 on 6 packs of cards and i was going to buy more cards but didn't want to give them anymore business. I won't be shopping here again and cannot recommend this store based on my experience. read more

It's an odd spot to say the least. The staff there were pretty chill, and helpful when needed. Their selection of items from cards to figurines is very good, with plenty to go around, and they have certain policies to prevent scalping. However, this is where a lot of the good ends. The place attracts quite a few not so savory people, mainly extremely negative people who lack any and all joy. The place also REEKS heavily of sweat, urine, and something rotting. A lot of their stuff is decently priced, however more popular items, like mainstream pokemon or yugioh cards, are heavily inflated price wise. There is also little to no AC in the building once in, so bring cool clothes to help with that. Line waits are pretty long and workers don't attempt to keep line moving, often leading to waits upwards of 30 minutes. Friend came here for a MTG tournament as a returning player to the game, and was belittled and made fun of by more experienced players, and according to him, some employees who were apart of the tourney joined in. Overall, If you plan to go here for one or two things quickly, that's fine, but I don't recommend a prolonged visit of any kind. read more

Super disappointed. Been in and out of here for the last 30 years. Just got back into MTG. Brought down a Borderless Anime card Rhystic Study and two other less valuable cards (prolly $10 each or so). Scanned Rhystic Study with TCGplayer, says $70 value. Went to trade in and the guy behind the counter and the owner started telling me it's from the wrong set and it's mass printed so it's not a $70 value. They said $20 cash or $25 store credit for $90+ in card value. Then a couple days later I see it up for sale in their store for $70. My fault for not knowing the true value of my cards, just really disappointed that they would take advantage like that when every other card store is usually 50% on store credit. Taking business to Walmart/target and online for cards and sleeves. Will not be back. read more

They compete with places like card kingdom and channel fireball and either match or beat their prices each time. They are very honest and you'll definitely not get scammed with a pre-opened (sealed) box like you would on Amazon. I went in with my 8 year old brother to go sell pokemon cards and im not 18 so they said i cant sell and i called my mom and she asked why on speaker phone and he kicked us out and told my brother to tell her to go F herself. This is highly unprofessional and i truly don't think anyone should buy from these guys, its in a ghetto area and kicking children under 16 out is insane. Spacious store with lots of options for collectible gifts. I can definitely see this place being super lively once the pandemic is 100% over. They had some arcade games that are shut down for now ... not sure of it's mainly because of social distancing and whatnot. My boyfriend joked and said I can play DDR while he plays Magic here LOL. read more

War Torn Front - Entrance - Hobby Shops Near Me - Manteca, California

Gaming in the Manteca area has always been something of a hit or miss in the last 10 or so years. Various game shops have come and gone leaving Mantecans scrambling to find a venue with which to call their own. War Torn Front answers that call with a lively yell exclaiming "Manteca is the place to game!" Walking into the store front, you immediately realize what kind of business you are walking into. It is a store for gaming. Inside one can see a Flat Screen TV, gaming consoles, DVDs, and of course Board and Card Games. The Employees and owner are all knowledable people in their own right and make you feel welcome. This store is primarily a Magic: The Gathering store, however this does not mean it has shunned all else. They have been slowly building up torunaments and prizes for Yu-Gi-Oh!, Kaijudo, Pathfinder, Dungeons and Dragons, and even trying to hold various video gaming tournaments, along with a weekly movie night for the customers. The crowd that has been attracted to this gem of a store is one of the most friendly group of players you can meet. it is this sense of community, along with the store's attempts to further foster that community that make going to this store a real joy. I implore anyone reading this review to go check them out for yourselves. For I found a gem that I do not plan to let go anytime soon. read more

Okay. Here's the thing. The owner, Chia, as well as his employees, are very kind, as well as helpful. It's a chill, laid back spot thtas good if you like edh or pauper. It's a hot spot. There is a great variety of items to be had, and the prices are great. The thing is, I've been going here for about six months - since I moves up north and noticed that there was a spot to play MTG near my house. When I first started coming, the people playing were very kind. I really appreciated the involvement. Lately, the spot has grown heavily, with the average friday night hosting about 40 to 60 people (some playing mtg, some playing dnd, etc.) But with this wave, the people have become much more toxic. They are very vulgar, and get upset easily. It's becoming difficult to play a regular tourney of mtg without having people cuss for losing, or get loud. Its irritating, as my friends don't even come to the spot anymore. It's nothing against chia, or any of the other workers. I'm just getting tired of people getting mad at me for winning a game of magic. I've been playing since I was around 1st grade. I play because it's a fun pastime. read more

I remember coming here some years ago with my buddy to play our first FNM standard event, and getting our a**es handed to us. Since then it has just been loads of fun learning the game and getting to know the staff, who often participate in the game events themselves. Magic singles selection is great, and there's a lot of other cool stuff here in terms of board games, merch, and classic video games before loot boxes were ever a thing. Sometimes life catches up with you and you can't fully commit to TCG's, but this is a store I know I will always come back to and find friendly, knowledgeable staff and a great environment to nerd out. read more

Visited this place cos it seemed pretty good from the reviews. The selection is pretty good and prices are alright. From my understanding they sell their stuff online as well so don't come here expecting to get an amazing bargain. But on the plus side they have some cool people working here that just wanna talk about games and are ready to help you out. They had a good selection of consoles available and some 70s retro stuff too if you're into that. And of course the NES, genesis, snes, etc. I would come here again to check out what selections they have and hopefully can try and get a good deal on some good retro games. read more

I have come here with my son for the past few months on Sundays. We have a blast making a day out of the event. We just came to the Christmas party this past Sunday. My wife came as well for the first time. We all enjoyed the atmosphere. While there are some that tend to get obnoxious, it is expected when you have a lot of people in one place. My son and I just got into Magic the Gathering after the Christmas party and found the staff to be wonderfully helpful in recommendations that helped us learn and enjoy the game. My boy also enjoys playing on the Wii-U as we get 5-8 people playing Smash Brothers. My wife was even cheering! Highly recommended for those wanting to try out a new game or a few! read more

The staff are pleasant, there's plenty of table space for events, and their MtG card selection is impressive for a small card shop, with decent prices too. Their stock is organized and they have a computer there so you can check price and availability easily. They also have a good online storefront, so you can see what they have and even have them ship it to you, with free shipping with a large enough order, or free store pickup if you're planning on being there anyway. Aside from MtG, they also have some board games, some classic video games, various card games, and a few couches where people can hang out and play video games. And while this may not be a normal part of a game store review, I'll just mention: They have a restroom. It's not 5-star-hotel beautiful, but it's clean and not scary. That's not always the case at card shops, so they deserve credit for making the effort. read more

I came there knowing nothing and they took the time out to help me and my kids pick out stuff we loved. They don't try to upsell you and will always have great options depending on your budget. 2 weeks ago I took in some cards for store credit the offered me $60 I took the offer. A week later they took $16 off of my store credit without me buying anything, or any warning. When I called to ask why they person I spoke to said they made a mistake about the quality of the cards I sold them and that was the reason for the reduction. Where I come from when you make a deal you stick to it apparently war torn doesn't believe in doing that. For this reason alone I'll NEVER trade again with this business read more

War Torn Front is awesome! The guys here won me over the first time I attended Friday Night Magic a few weeks ago. The store is clean and well organized, and the owners and the vast majority of their clientele are patient and helpful with everyone, even new players like me. They all also seemed to remember my name after I'd only been here once. It should be mentioned that War Torn Front, unlike so many other card shops I've been to with my boyfriend, is as girl-friendly as these sorts of joints get. The store boasts clean bathrooms, and I have never felt patronized or ogled while getting my Magic on. So, to the geeky boys of the Modesto/Manteca/Stockton area, if you want to convince your significant other to go with you to a comic or card shop, this is the one to check out. I recently participated in an event, received a DQ, the employee (I believe his name was Brandon) turned a crappy situation for me into a learning experience, and really was able to make the situation feel less crappy for me and my wife. Great place. A little under kept but great for what it supplies none the less. This would have been a 5 star but I find it weird and a bit gross that people walk around bare foot. War torn front is a great place to hang out and play magic the gathering I was a beginner at it but lots of people helped me like the owner of the shop is very nice and friendly he told me how the ability works and when I should use them and the customers there are always helping me they give me cards and gives me sleeves everyone there are so nice like the most nice people you well meat except 2 no names haha but the plays is great but the bad things about it is it should be open at 12 most days not 2 that's a bit late for a store to be opened and the bathroom needs cleaning that's all evey thing else if good. read more

I dislike the entitlement of MTG related activities here and have tried to give it a go several times. It appears if you are learning you are not welcome, only experienced players are welcome. It's too bad it just can't be a space where all are welcome or have an organized game night where rotations are a part of the experience.
