I was a little underwhelmed with my experience at the renowned 1918 Restaurant to be honest…read more The setting was nice with a cosy warm fireplace blazing on that particularly cold and blustery spring evening. The wine menu is spectacular; they definitely have some high end stuff here - I couldn't believe they had bottles on offer for $300! We ordered a more moderately priced but beautiful Shiraz at the recommendation of our waitress. Nice they decanted it for us on the table as well. We had the beef carpaccio for our starter, which had a nice delicate flavour. For my main I ordered the beef cheeks which were tasty but incredibly rich. The vegetables would have helped cut through the richness but sadly the accompanying "baby leeks" were just 2 puny spring onions and the celeriac puree was almost nonexistent there was so little of it. Not sure if it was related to the meal, but afterward my husband did get sick to his stomach. He thinks possibly the steak might have been a little bit frozen in the middle but isn't sure. What a pity because that steak was the most expensive thing on the menu and he ended up throwing up the whole thing anyway... On the bright side, our friends who ordered the scotch filet and the gnocchi said their dishes were great, so maybe my husband and I just ordered the wrong things. The fresh bread we ordered as a starter was delicious and the house made parmesan oil was amazing (I was so tempted to buy a bottle as they sell them at the front of the house!)

Kangaroo was quite good - steak-like taste and texture coupled with some interesting sides like fig w/ feta. Service was very strong. Food was a bit delayed which was odd given we showed up near lunch closing - but we did have 5 people. Sat outside and it was wonderful. Overall great meal and experience!

Okay, it is located in a rather touristy area, and it certainly does have some charm as well. I thought that the scnitzel was, well, really, really good, but it also went further than that to have some nice beer selections as well. Yeah, this is certainly one of those pubs that I have no problem whatsoever returning to.

There were only three other tables of diners, but had to walk around the front to find staff to take orders and pour drinks, so we ordered a beef schnitzel with garlic prawn sauce and a beef schnitzel. So far so good, about 40 minutes later a table that ordered after us got their food...we waited...after about 10 mins more a bored waitress came in and the chap at that table said he had the wrong meal, a beef snit with garlic prawns...so I said i think that was supposed to be mine. She took his meal back and 5 mins later I received a piping hot (microwave?) beef snit. The guy at the other table looked and laughed that it looked familiar. My wife then received different meal than she ordered but by then we just wanted to eat n go. Between that, no aircon, 10000 flies not a hint of an apology the Brauhaus can suck it! What a dump.

Tried out this place for an impromptu lunch during a day trip to Barossa…read more We tried out the wood-fired pizza, as this appeared to be one of their selling points. It was just okay but I can't say it was particularly flavoursome. I felt like the crust was ready made, off premises. We only had an entree and didn't have any mains. Perhaps these are better for showing off their strengths. Service was friendly. There are plenty of dining options available in Barossa. I wouldn't opt for their pizzas here but perhaps their mains are worth trying out.

The location is a beautiful scenic spot in the Barossa Valley so make a day of it and enjoy the drive down to take in the lush rolling hills and captivating sights. When you arrive, make sure you do a bit of wine tasting at the cellar door before your meal. The bar staff were very helpful and insightful when pouring your wine and give great recommendations to pair up the right wine with your meal. We started off with a trio of dips which tasted of fresh beetroot, sweet potato and hummus. I was in the mood for a nice juicy steak that day so opted for the Angus Steak with a mushroom sauce for my main. It was deliciously melt in your mouth, nicely charred on the outside, tender and moist on the inside and packed full of flavour. If you have room for something sweet, you can admire the dessert selection which is akin to admiring a form of artwork. The delicate intricate design was something you'd expect to see from Heston Blumenthal's kitchen - and the taste is there too! I helped organised a gala event dinner for a work conference a few months back at the function room and it was spectacular. The rustic, old world charm with the stone walls, wooden barrels, against the glow of tealight candles just sets the mood for a beautiful intimate event. The staff were delightful to deal with and was efficient in our communications and catered towards every need. I would highly recommend Saltrams for a wedding or special occasion.

In A Nutshell:…read more -fermentAsian is an upscale, southeast asian (mainly Vietnamese, some Thai) restaurant in Barossa Valley, SA. -It's a niche food catering to the Australian population, if you know what I mean. -The building is very old, rustic, feels just like my house back home (i.e. Craftsman) w/ some upgraded modern expansions. -The interior is well lit & simply decorated, which is nice. -The service was very attentive & good. -I enjoy places like this where you can enjoy each course one-by-one. -My favorite dish was the oxtail dumplings. -We brought our own bottle of wine, which you can do anyday except Friday/Saturdays. Overall, the prices are very good here, so if you are looking for a nice meal I would recommend fermentAsian.

The tables are a little crowded, and it was easy to hurt oneself from the fireplace mantle corner edge when getting to the corner chair. The food is brilliantly presented, and tasty too. We were able to go with the chefs selection of 3 entree and 5 mains ($62 pp) and we should not have gone for desserts and coffee but couldn't resist. I was unable to have my dessert selection of coconut panna cotta as it had not set so settled for the icecream. When we asked our desserts to be delayed due to our full stomachs it was met with "we need your table". It was 2pm, and we felt rushed. A beautiful meal cannot be rushed. I found it off putting that we were served by a number of different people over the course of the meal, and one man dressed like a customer caught us off guard when he came to our table. I thought it was a random coming up to us. It was nice that we were served once by the chef, and only knew it was her from newspaper articles. I would prefer that we have the one staff looking after us as it would have made the experience more personal, and the chef then popping to our table to introduce herself.
