I'd heard (and read) great things about the coffee at Wandering Goat Cafe so I was looking forward to visiting when we were in Eugene. First things first, the coffee was great! I had the Borgia (mocha with orange zest) and it was exceptional. I would drink this everyday if I could! Unfortunately, that where the goodness ends. We got ourselves a broccoli-cheese puff and half an order of biscuits and gravy. Both dishes were served cold to us with no offer to reheat them. When my husband requested the staff to reheat the puff, they directed him to a toaster where he could heat it up himself! Obviously we couldn't dump the biscuits and gravy in the toaster, and trust me, cold, rock-hard biscuits (and rather salty gravy) are no fun to eat! Also, the puff was super oily, although I did like the combination of broccoli and cheese. Mostly, I just did not understand the dismissive attitude of the staff especially since the cafe was not particularly crowded. In short, if you must come here, stick to the coffee. This is the first coffee shop I came to when I visited Oregon my first time and I was very underwhelmed. It's kind of funny because they have their horrible Yelp reviews on the walls....if this tells you anything. The vibes were very Eugene if you're looking for that. The coffee was disgusting though. Overall, I really like Wandering Goat. I like coming here for a simple cup of coffee or sometimes I will splurge and get a fancy borgia (espresso, chocolate, orange zest, and steamed milk). Very casual, hippie vibe consistent with the Whitaker neighborhood location. I am often the one that stands out in the hippie crowd here but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Staff is usually helpful, but I am not surprised to see some yelp reviews mention feeling that the staff was dismissive or unhelpful. The main food item that we purchase every single time is the seedy bagel. Man, I've never seen so many seeds on one bagel! It is delicious. They place your bagel in a toaster near the cashier's area and it is expected that you pick up your own bagel, no table service/delivery. Cream cheese is extra (as are to-go cups). My father-in-law who lives out of state often mentions this bagel to us in hopes of getting a fresh one delivered to him. Another item I purchase often is the biscuits and gravy. This item isn't always consistently good, sometimes the biscuit is too dense and dry, sometimes the gravy isn't hot enough, even though it is flavorful. They have some really cool Wandering Goat swag that they sell (t-shirts, coffee mugs, stickers, coffee equipment, etc) as well as bagged coffee beans (whole or ground). We often purchase these coffee bags as presents whenever we visit home and they are a big hit. Interior is pretty grungy, but overall adequate. It isn't comfortable enough for me to bring my laptop to do work for long periods of time. The outdoor seating is lovely when the weather is nice. VEGAN of course The whole philosophy of this place is everything I dreamt this little college town would be about and I'm soooo glad I picked this place to come support and enjoy. A friend took me to Wandering Goat as I like coffee, saying that it is one of the best coffee shops in Eugene. We ordered Americano. I was very disappointed that it was not what I expected. it was just lukewarm old tasteless coffee, not piping hot java made with espresso shots. I regret not asking for refund or another cup. Wandering Goat is the quintessential Eugene experience. Upon a visit this past weekend with my friend for brunch we parked near and crossed the train tracks. We were greeted with a giant painted mural depicting a hobo traveler on a freight train on the outside walls of the Wandering Goat along with Skulls spray-painted to form another mural on a nearby fence. A large factory building towered above across the street of the entrance. The colorful exterior was a mirror to the colorful interior with eccentric locals and art that complemented one another. Inside it was nearly 10am and already bustling Wandering Goat has great hours usually 6am to 11pm or midnight. It is all vegetarian and nearly all items that I could tell are vegan expect for butter for food and milk as an option for the beverages. Previously I had been here just for desert enjoying a peanut butter chocolate bar yet this was the first time for a meal. My friend and I ordered half a plate of vegan beer cheeze biscuits and gravy, a blueberry oat bar, and super seedy bagel with 2 oz of Earth Balance. My friend ordered a decaf espresso with soy creamer that she loved. We both enjoyed the food especially the vegan beer cheeze biscuits with mushroom gravy. Highly recommended! We also saw the lunch menu has vegan, organic, and local as possible. For the day's lunch special was a soup and tempeh sandwich that looked great. Wandering Goat is a great place to people watch as seems to be a regular haunt of the colorful residents of Eugene that make living here such a great place. The walls featured art by an artist named Norman and were reminiscent of R. Crumb, this is a compliment to both artists. We would love to come back again for lunch or dinner to try some more of the menu as well as check out the Open Mic night. read more

Wandering Goats Borgia is a slam dunk. Coffee is exceptional. I debated giving this review a five but due to customer service being less than great, I am giving it a four. I asked specifically if they wouldn't mind making my coffee iced. I also specifically said that I understood that if that was too out of the ordinary, I would gladly accept it hot. The girl taking my order said it was no problem. However, the barista through a mild fit. I reassured him I would gladly accept hot if that was easier. He continued with his pompous attitude while making my coffee, making the overall vibe of the experience poor. Service is whack and I'll get my Borgia at fifth street market where they serve WG coffee and Borgias without the attitude. A friend highly recommended this coffee shop and told me I had to check it out during my week in Eugene. Knowing that they opened early, I went around 6:30 a.m. to check out the coffee shop ... and hoped that I would be able to find it without any problems and find parking, too. I don't know Eugene really well, but the coffee shop seemed to be in a more industrial area. I probably wouldn't go here really late at night by myself, but the sun was beginning to peek out from between the clouds by the time I got there, and I ended up finding parking really close to Wandering Goat. While my friend raved about those garlic cheese bagels, I ended up not getting anything for breakfast during my visit. I was tempted, though, by the bagels and the assortment of pastries in the display case. But, I decided to just get coffee during this visit and figured I would try some of the baked goods during another visit. The two girls working were really helpful and it was evident that there were some regular customers ahead of me, who had "usual" orders and seemed familiar with the menu. I was just glad that the coffee shop wasn't too crowded, there was ample seating space and my order came out really quickly. Here's what I got: "Mocha": Mochas tend to be my go-to order (especially when I'm trying out a new coffee spot) because I know they have chocolate and I'm pretty satisfied with it every time. I was just glad there was both almond milk/soy that I could substitute in my mocha. I really like how there's an assortment of drink sizes here at Wandering Goat. Because it was cooler, I decided to order my drink hot and therefore settled for a 12 oz. cup (it also comes in 8, 16 and 20 oz. sizes). If I were getting a cold drink, I probably would have opted for the 16 oz. because liquid chocolate disappears so quickly! But, being that my drink was hot, the 12 oz. size was absolutely perfect. I really liked the velvety taste of my mocha and the latte art was on point. "Cheddar Bagels": I really do want to try one of these cheddar bagels because I love cheese and the bagels looked delicious. You can even have it toasted if you're planning to dine-in. I really wanted to try one, but I had already eaten breakfast by this time so I just got coffee. Definitely want to return here to try one of those bagels. Bagels are not my favorite when it comes to breakfast food, but for this cheesy option, I would have to make an exception. "Peanut Butter Bar": When I asked the girl what was in the peanut butter bar, she told me it was a mix of peanut butter, chocolate and Rice Krispies. I love peanut butter and chocolate, so thinking back to my visit, I must have had extreme self control to not get one. If I'm in the mood for something sweet during my next Wandering Goat visit, this treat would be first up on my list. "Biscuits and Gravy": Besides the cheddar bagel, this is a popular breakfast option, according to the girl behind the counter. She said that if people don't want an entire bagel, they often get the garlic cheddar biscuits and pair it with gravy. Those looked delicious as well, so I anticipate trying them one day. read more

Wandering Goat is our favorite place to get coffee. The atmosphere and customers are a bit funky. Their coffee is excellent, but they make their coffee drinks strong. Small drinks have two shots and large ones have four, so be prepared for the buzz. This day we were after a pound of Chupacabara Espresso Roast and some lattes. My wife decided two shots was too much so she tried their Chai Tea Latte and found it nothing special. I had a quad shot large latte and it was smooth and good. We have not tried any of their goodies, which all seem to be vegan. read more

Best coffee in OREGON if not the west coast and beyond. I used to live and Eugene and enjoyed Wandering Goat coffee on any occasion that led me there. Now that I live in Portland, I make special trips to get my 'goat'. You can get it on-line too. My favorite is the Abyssinia, an african blend that is just amazing. My BF loves the South American single origin beans. Either way, we always get a cup to go with our 2 lbs of beans. read more

Another coffee-house-for-studying-based review: Biggest plus is that Wandering Goat is open late! Check out their hours: Mon-Wed 7am - 11 pm, Thurs-Fri 7am-12am, Sat 8am-12am & Sun 8am-9pm. However, depending on your preferred level of light, night time might be an issue. I couldn't stay there as long as I was planning on staying, as I thought it was a bit dim for reading and my eyes began to hurt. But, I do admittedly like lots and lots of light, more than the average person I'd say. Free wi-fi. I'd rate outlet availability "medium". For the size of the place, they ought to have more. Ample street parking. Atmosphere is enjoyably unique - when I was there the "4-track Club of Eugene" was holding a meeting. I dig on weird stuff like that. Watch out for days when they've been roasting though, it's a brick building and it gets friggin HOT in there... Good place overall to study. read more

The Wandering Goat is a great little place for all the reasons that people below have mentioned. It is very Eugene-ish. There is no shortage of hippies which is always a plus. And I saw more skinny jeans in this place than I had seen in while, which is always refreshing. Overall, an eclectic patronage. Good place to study, but can get a bit crowded. Wandering Goat roasts its own beans, which it supplies to stores and restaurants around town. I have been buying their beans for years, they are hands down my favorite beans for making pour-overs and espresso at home. I've explored some of their blends and single-origin coffees, but come back to their flagship Hair of the Goat blend - you can't go wrong with it. They also make superb espresso drinks in the shop. When I stop in I usually get a cappuccino, which they make traditionally sized (5.5 ounces) and consistently excellent, with a thick and rich micro foam - the baristas know what they're doing. I've always experienced the service to be professional and attentive, though sometimes a little matter-of-fact. The coffeeshop is in what has historically been an industrial part of the Whiteaker neighborhood, but the surrounding block is slowly changing as bars and restaurants crop up. The shop still has a pretty humble, hip-but-not-fancy vibe reflecting its origins and can feel a little rough around the edges, but comfortably so. The clientele is a mix of punks, hippies, hipsters, and boring people like me. If tattoos make you uncomfortable, you should probably get your drink to go - but do get it. read more

Asked for my money back and got a little attitude and a rude comment. "You shouldn't order biscuits and gravy if you don't know that you like it", she says. Everything except their dairy cream cheese and half & half is vegan. -Soy creamer instead of soy milk! =) -Their "cheezy" bagels are amazing I don't know how that isn't real cheese. Tofutti cream cheese for a dollar. -The biscuits and gravy are great with one exception: the biscuits are severed cold and they can't/won't heat them. The mushroom nutritional yeast gravy is really good, I usually get the regular biscuits but the vegan beer cheeze biscuits are great too. - Open early, late, and on holidays! -Free wifi -Slightly understaffed during the busy hours, no knock on the staff though. read more

I wandered to the wandering goat twice during my stay in Eugene and had two different experiences. The first time around I got a house drip coffee and it was awful. I mean that burned and stale coffee taste that you would encounter at a gas station. I threw it away and was disappointed. The next day, I woke up and decided to give them another try. So I got a cafe au lait and awaited my fate. And....it was perfect! Also a bit perplexing because a cafe au lait is drip coffee with just steamed milk on top. So, I think the first time around was a fluke. Perhaps I got the bottom of the pot or the barista made a weird batch (???). So I can't give them a full 5 stars, but I will give them 4 because I was also a fan of their hipster decor and coffee ice cream that I found down the block. read more

I have no disagreement when it comes to HAIL SATAN ... but a $5.00 US Dollars for a !@#!@ing west-coast bagel? That's something I can't deal with. On the other hand their baked goods are otherwise delicious - and continually served into the evening hours which I appreciate since I found myself here after a couple bars and a divorce and had previously consumed nothing all day which could soak up the alcohol / sadness at the futility of life. If you want a little taste of seattle....you got it! Good coffee, overpriced Vegan food you could make out of the goop in your cupboard and hateful and rude baristas. They have to know they have a reputation for treating people like garbage, so I guess it is funny too them. Saw them pound on the bathroom door yelling "only one person at a time in the bathroom!" A very frustrated father and scared little kid came out. The dad was reasonably pissed, as he was trying to get his little one to be able to go the bathroom in a recked up spot. Wandering Goat definitely belongs in this neighborhood. The casual charm it has makes me happy that it's my neighborhood go-to coffee spot. Parking can be a bit limited but there's a lot down the street. I love their homemade oatmeal here. It's perfectly sweetened and every bite was warm and filling. Their scones are good too! We also had a savory bagel that was delicious and almost pizza like. Their coffee is on point and they make a mean chai latte. There is indoor and outdoor seating or you can grab your goods to go. They have live music here sometimes which I hope to check out sometime. The staff were friendly and answered all of my questions with a smile. The prices here are a little steep but for the quality and consistency I don't mind it when I have the money to spend but personally can't make this my everyday stop unless it's for that oatmeal! read more

I just spent 4 dollars on a 12 oz chai tea i didnt even like... Bummer. Hot chocolate had a coffee taste to it, really concerned about cross contamination on this one. Coffee was fairly average but the flower on top was on point. Food here was pretty good, salvaged a star. Prices were high but the portion sizes were pretty generous. Not sure ill be back for a peanut butter bar, muffin, 12 oz chai and 16 oz hot chocolate for 16 dollars. If you are super into organic or vegan you may enjoy this place, if not im not sure its a good choice, I prefer starbucks. read more

Coffee is very very good, roasted in house, and espresso made drinks are top notch. Really a whole lot of complex flavors to be had here. Biscuits and gravy are excellent and very filling. When I first moved to town I spent a lot of time here and although I'm not the biggest black metal fan, the environment has always been really nice. Not sure why people are complaining about service as everyone I've met here has not only been incredibly helpful but just genuinely kind. Why 3 stars then? 2 reasons. Loss of first star: Wi-Fi is always either spotty or out completely. I've come here on multiple occasions to relax and finish some papers only to be met with broken internet. May not matter to some but my main reason for patronage surrounds access to Internet. Loss of second star: Coffee is pretty expensive. On average, you can find a coffee and refill in town for $2.50. At the goat, a 20 oz and refill will set you back $5.00. Pastries are sooo good but not cheap. If I could, I would give a half star for board games alone, this is really cool! If you're in the area and want an excellently crafted cup of coffee, check this place out; I really do think it's the best in town. If you need to get homework or anything internet related done, go somewhere else. read more

This is pretty much just a bagel review.. Cold brew was decent, not anything spectacular, a little too bright for my taste. But the bagel.. $5 sounds a little pricey but honestly I don't mind paying that much for a good piece of bread with cheese. When you grab the bagel from the toaster (which no one directs you to, I didn't even realize it was there until 10 minutes had past) the only thing I kept thinking when I was eating it was, is this even a bagel? Am I eating a round piece of focaccia? Maybe even pizza crust? It was greasy & the consistency of the dough was just not.. bagely? Bread with a hole, does not a bagel make. I get the whole added cost of cream cheese, that stuff costs money & I've worked many places where the same rule was applied, so I wasn't bothered by that.
