Based on recent reviews from others, I'd say they still haven't fixed whatever they're doing wrong. Great choice for a speedy lunch that is a step above fast food. My standard order never steers me wrong: Walt's Jr. rare, with bbq, small fry and a soda. I also get horseradish sauce and pickles on the side. Why the Junior? It's the perfect balance of thinly sliced beef and buttered sesame toasted bun. The service is always pleasant. The fries are always super hot and crispy. The dining room needs some updates but I suppose there is a certain charm to the classic decor. It can be a bit pricey but a good treat once in a while. Stopped to get my daughter a grilled cheese and I was going to get the fish & chips but I didn't know until I got there that they had stopped selling fish. It was okay that they didn't sell it anymore as I got a roast beef sandwich. However the problem was that the cheese wasn't even melted on the grilled cheese and there was minimal roast beef on the sandwich. Ordered a combo (includes fries) with a Walts and bottled water, with BQ sauce on the side. The woman at the register, who wire her mask on her mouth but not nose, was obviously not prepared for this, as I was charged for a sandwich and a soda ($1 more than water). What came out was a Walt's sandwich. No fries. No BBQ sauce. I asked her about it. The blank look I got back told me there was no saving the situation. Funny aside - the next register over had a woman ordering. The cashier, upon handing back the change, dropped a coin. It bounced and landed in the side of the sandwich on the tray right there. The customer stuck her finger in and fished out the coin. They all laughed it off. The customer then started to puck up the tray with the molested sandwich on it. "Oh, that's not yours. Yesterday we stopped at Walt's in North Kingstown which we always do when we are in the area. It's a real treat we look forward to having and it has always been so tasty and just plain yummy. Yesterday was HORRIBLE!! The meat was stringy and tough and loaded with grizzle. I was shocked. It was then on a par with the one in Warwick which has been lousy for quite a while. I seriously considered bringing it back but decided that it would just sound like I was being picky and with everyplace short of help and struggling to survive, I let it be. I passed Walt's several times while working in the area, was looking for a quite bite and wanted to give it a try, I ordered the Walt's special combo including tomato, lettuce and mayo with a side of fries and drink. To me the roast beef was a bit bland although I would stop in again and order another type of sandwiches. Nothing to brag about, fast food it is. The place seems clean and staff was friendly Except the guy making the food def wanted to be somewhere else from the look on his face. I had a hankering for some roast beef and fries, and spurred by Marlena G.'s recent review of Walt's Roast Beef's Warwick location, I decided to stop by their North Kingstown location as I was running errands in that area today. The last time I had been to a Walt's was probably close to 10 years ago. It's not that I didn't like it when I went there last, it's just that it never really popped to mind when I was out and about and hungry. When I pulled into the lot, I was struck by how many other cars were there. And there was a constant stream of people coming and going while I was there, which made me think that they must serve a pretty good product. The interior is definitely dated, but it was clean which works for me. I was greeted by a smiling, friendly woman at the counter and was served pretty quickly, waiting not more than 2 - 3 minutes for my food after I placed my order. I ordered a combo #4, which was a Yukon sandwich (1/4 lb of roast beef w/ lettuce, tomato and "catalina" sauce), large fries, and large soda. The sandwich was pretty thick, and it definitely satisfied my craving, and the fries were piping hot. Price was reasonable, around $7 for the lot. I'll definitely be visiting again in the future when a craving for roast beef hits. read more

I grew up very close to this Walt's location, and even though I no longer live in N.K., I still eat here somewhat regularly if I'm in the area. I probably eat here about four or five times a year, and have been going here more than 25 years, so I am pretty confident in saying that the quality of the food is consistently good. Never had a bad meal here. The roast beef is flavorful and cooked a 'just right' medium (if you like your roast beef more rare, I would recommend Miller's). Buns have a good consistency, and sandwich ingredients are fresh. Very good french fries. If I'm on a health kick, I'll get a garden salad instead of fries. They also have squares of chocolate cake with white frosting that remind me of the cake my (late) grandmother used to make me (of course, grandma's was better, but theirs is still good!). Service is fast, even when they are busy, and the staff does a great job keeping the dining room clean. There are plenty of booths/tables. Other reviewers have mentioned that the furnishings/decor hasn't changed since the 70s, and the place could use a facelift/remodel. However, I think it's cool that the dining room has stayed the same for the last 25-30+ years. It's comforting to see that some things have remained the same, especially when so many businesses have come and gone along that stretch of Post Road. In any event, the food also hasn't changed - and in this case, that's a good thing! read more

Went here for lunch on a rainy and dreary day and it was across the street. The girl behind the counter explained the menu and it is reasonable in price. I got the special with onion rings ( only get 3) with a medium drink for like $9.00. Wish they had horseradish sauce. I usually enjoy coming here to have my usual roast beef sandwich but on fridays visit at 3pm, i wanted to have the fish and chips. I asked the girl at the counter and she told me that i could not have it until 4pm, so i ordered my usual rb sandwich. Two minutes later a regular customer to the restaurant came in and asked for the fish and chips and the girl replied, do you want your tea as well. I had already received my sandwich and was staying to eat it when i saw the two cooks put the food on the counter. I approached the counter and pointed to the fish and chips as the customer approached the counter and asked the girl why couldn't i have the fish and chips when i asked two minutes ago? I got a blank and red faced girl that put her head down while the two cooks at the counter dropped their jaws and looked at me. I got zero response from none of the associates. Walt's is hilarious. First of all, if you're from anywhere outside of New England, you HAVE to try Walt's because it's basically the same menu as Arby's, but the food here is actually legit and tastes amazing. The meat is meat and not metallic flavorless sadness like it is at Arby's. Anyways, what's hilarious is that they're still in business with a name like "Walt's Roast Beef" in upper middle class southern farmers market hipster land New England.
