The woman I spoke with was also incredibly rude and talked down to me like I was a child, rather than listening to my concerns and taking responsibility for what happened. I understand that mistakes can happen, but how a business handles a mistake says a lot. I expected professionalism, accountability, and at the very least, respectful communication. Unfortunately, I received none of those things. Paying $160 for an incorrect diagnosis and then being treated disrespectfully when I questioned it is unacceptable. At my first appointment, I waited over two hours before being seen. During that visit, I was told my out-of-pocket cost for the crown would be $900 with insurance. To make sure there were no surprises, I even called the Friday before my appointment to confirm the price, and they again confirmed it would be $900. When I arrived for the procedure, I was suddenly told my bill would be $1,750 -- an $850 difference from what I had been told multiple times. When I questioned it, the billing person was rude, dismissive, and unable to give a clear explanation for the change. I verified the cost twice beforehand, so being told a completely different amount when I arrived felt dishonest and misleading. It honestly felt like they lied about the billing just to get me in the door. By that point they already had the broken crown I brought with me, so walking out would have been difficult. Looking back, I wish I had gone somewhere else. I would consider you to look elsewhere for your dental needs. Be extremely careful with billing if you have insurance know you will still pay a hefty BILL for a grown. Based on my experience, the price you are told ahead of time may not be the price they try to charge you when you arrive. If you look up the cost of a crown everywhere on line tells you it's anywhere between 700- up to 3,000 without insurance, if you have insurance even though your insurance will cover that cost at 50% you still will pay outrageous money and as if you didn't have insurance. I am still shocked!! this is insane please do not go to this dental office. There is plenty of them in Tucson.

My biggest disappointment with this practice has been the lack of communication and customer service. There is absolutely no communication regarding upcoming appointments--no confirmation texts, phone calls, or emails. On one occasion, we arrived at the appointment time we believed we had scheduled, only to be told that our actual appointment was scheduled for a later time. A simple courtesy reminder or confirmation would have prevented this confusion and inconvenience. The orthodontic services themselves have been average--nothing particularly exceptional or above and beyond what we have experienced elsewhere. I understand that this practice may have a large patient volume, but it often feels as though everything is left entirely up to the patient or parent to keep track of. This is especially disappointing considering that many of the patients are minors who are in school, meaning parents or guardians are ultimately responsible for making sure they get to their appointments on time. In my opinion, basic courtesy communication--such as a reminder text, call, or email--should be the minimum standard of customer service, particularly in a practice where appointments are so important. Overall, we have been disappointed with the level of communication and service. Orthodontic treatment is a significant commitment, and patients and parents should feel that the practice values their time and makes an effort to communicate with them. Unfortunately, that has not been our experience so far.

It has actually been a great opportunity for my teens to build their independence and confidence with doctor's appointments. They can walk themselves in, check in on the iPad, have their routine appointment, and even schedule their own follow-up around their school schedules. Dr. Andrew Petersen performed my wisdom teeth removal last week. Within a couple of days of the surgery, I discovered that Dr. Petersen neglected to remove one of the wisdom teeth. I called Dr. Petersen and he said he "doubts that" he would have missed one of the four teeth but that he has made that mistake "once or twice in the past." A review I found of Dr. Petersen on a different website paints a similar story. I went in to the officer after the call with Dr. Petersen and they took X-rays to check on my concern and they discovered that I was correct that Dr. Petersen neglected to remove the wisdom tooth. Dr. Dahl apologized repeatedly for Dr. Petersen's error and then Dr. Dahl pulled the fourth tooth for me free of charge and refunded me for the cost that Dr. Petersen charged me in advance of his original surgery. I want to thank Dr. Dahl for that. As you can imagine , my recovery pain increased significantly following the second surgery. However, I have to recommend that Dr. Petersen no longer be allowed to practice at Cortaro Smiles moving forward. Everyone makes mistakes but not being able to count to four is unacceptable and should not be tolerated by a professional medical or dental practice. I have already contacted the Arizona Dental Board to report Dr. Petersen for his neglect and I will be demanding restitution for the unnecessary pain caused by the second surgery that was required. Again, I want to thank the rest of the staff at Cortaro Smiles. Needless to say, I will be finding a new office to go to moving forward as I cannot trust the work they do here since as far as I know there are not other surgeons here. If you are reading this, do not allow Dr. Petersen to perform surgery on you.
