We ordered two singles and a puffy dog but only got the singles and then a kids hot dog instead of the puffy but didn't realize until we left. Also got fries two ways and shakes but the best part was the actual hot dog itself. Would go to McDonald's for their fries instead of here tbh. Just not anything special for $35 total. read more

Disappointing , after hearing about this place for years we made the trek up from Long Island . While the service was fast and friendly, the fries were soggy and lacked any soft of crisp, as if they had been sitting. The bun was warm and toasty and the mustard was quite good , but the hot dog itself was underwhelming. The process of splitting and grilling makes the meat very rubbery and not very appealing. Starting this review with I hate hot dogs. I do not eat them, and these were SO good. I had to try it. I've lived in walking distance for the last ten months and finally got this for dinner. I got a puffy dog and my boyfriend got a puffy dog and normal dog with a pretzel bun. We also shared a chocolate peanut butter cowboy shake. It was all freaking delicious! The potato puffs were so good and the mustard had a nice kick but wasn't too strong. We loved the pretzel bun and I even thought the regular bun was really good. I am happy I haven't gone here until just now because it's going to be hard to resist!! read more

Hot dogs are my weakness. I thought it was pizza. It's not. When you travel to random US cities for work, and come lunch time you're yelping "Hot Dogs"....it's evident. So, this place happened to be a good 16 minute drive from where I was. But the way they cook the dog and taste this mustard. In fact, I have seen their mustard at supermarkets before, and didn't think this place was responsible for it. None the less, this lunch hit the spot. It is a little pricey. But, it's also not a hot dog cart, it's not made by a brand you are already familiar with (i.e. Sabrett's, Nathan's, Thumann's, etc) and their mustard much like the meat in their hot dog is their own. If you're like me, and can't pass up on hot dogs...if you're in the vicinity or willing to take a road trip for food, come here! read more

Terrible for the price. We are out of their food truck, and it was a waste of a meal. The food was over priced, over seven dollars for one hotdog with some skinny franks on them sliced up. Worst yet the franks were barely cooked, only slightly warmed up. Barely three bites for the hotdog. They need to revise their pricing. I can get a hotdog from a NYC hotdog stand that tastes better than this for 2-3 bucks. Don't waste your time. Between one hotdog with potatoes puffs and one order of curly fries I paid 13 dollars.... and they charge extra for one small cup of chipotle sauce. Buyer beware. read more

Decided to come here with one of my friends on a crisp autumn evening and we were pleasantly surprised. What seems to be just any regular hot dog place turns out to be a hidden gem in the mamaroneck area. Although it's name has rung throughout the town for decades, I had never tried Walter's until now and it is safe to say I will be coming back. I ordered the footlong hot dog which, for $8, was a little steep but money is not an issue for me. When I took my first bite I was met with a great flavor and a perfect consistency. This is how you do a hot dog! The only issue I had was that the bun was slightly soggy but it didn't hinder the experience enough for me to dislike it. I also ordered the fries and an Oreo shake which were both good. I recommend this place to anyone in the area, but be prepared, the prices aren't going to be the same as a normal hot dog joint as this is what I would consider premium. Jerome read more

Two stars for being a Westchester staple for many many many years, other than that I would give it 0. Food is underwhelming and frankly not good. The outside sitting is cute, but while eating my food I saw three rats coming out of bushes. I tried Walter's for the first time when I was pregnant and it hit the spot. I love that their items are homemade and they taste fresh and so yummy. Get your booty to this hidden gem (shanty) and sink your teeth into the humble hot dog that will make you happy. Get it with their signature mustard (which has a permanent spot in my fridge) and order some chowder on the side. The dogs are split down the middle and seared on the flats! A hot dog is usually a hot dog, and Walter's is usually great. There is no indoor seating at this location so it gets pretty cold at the benches that are available to use during the winter. In the spring, summer, and fall on the other hand the outdoor seating is a great place to eat. Not too close to the road, but also not buried in the woods. read more

Are you kidding me? I just got through with a visit to New York. And got a chance to stop by the best hot dog stand in the entire world. I mean there is nothing anything close to this hot dog stand. Walter's Hot Dogs is Simply the Best. They slice their hot dogs down the middle and Grill them to perfection. And they're toasted buns are awesome. I have no idea what they put in their hot-dog but it must be crack because I'm addicted. Of course their fries are out-of-this-world awesome and everyone who works here is in a good mood and is nice. Lighting is only as good as your automobile ceiling light or the outside sun since there no inside dining. Ambience is whatever auto and foot traffic provides. The butterflied hotdogs are quite good and serving it this way doubles the surface area for sauces and condiments, of which there are many choices. The "tater tots" were a little soggy but toothsome just the same. We've all been there....you're hungry, real hungry; but not in the mood for conversation and nobody really wants to listen to your lamentations anyhow. Came here to watch a softball game and noticed that this hot dog stand was near by. So based on my fellow yelpers I ended up getting four doubles and I must say it was a bit messy, but worth the hype. If you haven't been here a double is two hot dogs in one bun. I would come back here again if i am In the area, definitely worth the drive, but be prepared it does get messy so have plenty of napkins handy. read more

Walters had a very good hot dog with their own unique taste. I liked the hot dog but I haven't craved it since so it doesn't hold that special place in my stomach. The curly fries were very good. I hate to criticize such an "iconic" eatery, but seriously, the hot dogs here are awful.  Just had two overcooked griddled dogs that had absolutely no flavor.  I'm from Chicago and I know good Vienna hot dogs.  I guess the folks in Mamaroneck just don't know any better.  Nor do they like condiments.  My only options were two types of mustard.  No peppers, onions, relish, tomatoes, cheese, celery salt, or sauerkraut.  You'll need to bring your own.  At least now I know I won't have to drive all the way up here for the experience. read more

After eating here all the time in highschool, I went back when I returned to the area and was sadly disappointed in the result. The prices went up greatly & their quality went down. It seems they are spreading themselves thin with their new White Plains store, Stamford store & the food truck. The hot dogs once served piping hot now seem to be warm as if they were pre-prepared to keep the line down, they are not as grilled as they used to be and more loosely pressed on the griddle just to add a sear. Their mustard is the same and has a kick to it. Their milkshakes are tasty and thick but the quality is not consistent. I love that they are one of the few places that still serve curly fries but at $3.25 it isn't always worth the wait. Their seating area is not for you if you have a bee allergy, it is swarming with bees & when mentioned to the employees they just shrug. It used to be the go-to spot but after the death of Walter's son it just seems to have dropped off and it is a novelty location that I would suggest to everyone to try once. read more

Maybe it's just me, but I thought Walters was a little overrated. My husband loved it. Like really loved it. But I was just underwhelmed. They drowned my hot dog in ketchup and I couldn't taste the quality in the dog itself. Apparently the mustard was good but I don't eat mustard so I guess I'm at a loss. The curly fries were fine, but nothing special. My husband loved the puffs but for the price I found them to be very small. They were also very dense which I found unenjoyable. And the prices were insane. The double hot dog was $5. That's absurd. We got 3 dogs, 3 fries, and 3 drinks and it was $30+. Too much for leaving hungry and disappointed. Walter's was amazing to work with from start to finish. My fiancé and I heard about their hot dogs and took the train one afternoon from NYC to Mamaroneck to try it out. It was freezing out and there was a long line but it was worth the wait! The hot dogs are so delicious and the puffy dogs are even better. My mouth is watering while I write this. We knew right then we wanted Walter's to cater the late night snack for our wedding. Walter's was easy to communicate with and you can tell they are used to bringing their hot dog truck for events (the truck was adorable too and the workers were very nice!). Our guests LOVED the hot dog surprise at the end of our wedding night. Highly recommend the food and the catering experience!! read more
