Proof that perfection = innovation. While everyone else at…read moreChef Fest 2026 is out here foam-infusing truffle air onto artisanal sausages, @waltershotdogs has been running the game since 1919 with a simple rule: Do not mess with perfection. This Westchester legend is famous for its iconic pagoda stand, but the real magic is on the grill. We're talking a beef, pork, and veal dog, split down the middle, drowned in butter, seared to crispy perfection, shoved into a toasted bun, and smothered in their secret-weapon house mustard. Is it simple? 100%. Is it ordinary? Absolutely not. We made the pilgrimage to Chef Fest just to see if a 100+ year-old hot dog still lives up to the hype in 2026. Safe to say... my soul left my body on bite one. If you call yourself a hot dog fan and haven't had a Walter's dog, what are you even doing with your life? 10/10. No notes. Just butter and glory.

How have I not been here before?!!!…read more What's not to love about Walter's? It's located across from Mamaroneck High School in a structure from the 1920s that mimics a Chinese pagoda, evocative of early roadside America. Walter's does a booming business and has a long line around lunch time (when I went) but the line does move ultimately. Trust me it's worth the wait! I ordered the Big Walt and a six-count potato puffs. OMG! This dog is something else! First, it's made with pork, beef and veal for a unique flavor, split down the middle, and their signature mustard has a slight, delicious tang to it. The potato puffs are like little buttery puffs of mashed potato with a nice crust. And while waiting for the order to be filled, you can read a sampling of postcards sent to Walter's during various decades. Lots of history in both ambiance and taste that you will love. There's also a parking lot hidden behind the pagoda if you can't find parking along Palmer Ave. So what are you waiting for? Get your buns to Walter's and have a great split dog all snug in a bun!

Two ladies who run the food truck have great homemade seasoned beef balls (their OG Sisters Balls), seafood balls, sausage meatballs (Tony's Balls), turkey balls (Gobble Gool Balls), Rice Balls, vegan mini balls, and even mini calzone aka "Italian empanadas."  All are topped off with their signature San Marzano tomato sauce.  If meatballs aren't your jam, they also offer specials such as eggplant parmigiana and zucchini flowers. We ordered the following, Gobble Gool, OG Sister's Balls, Tony's, and their famous OG Sisters Balls. All were perfectly seasoned and savory!! Your Sister's Balls, the food truck, serve their balls in pairs with a slice of fresh Italian bread, to mop up the delicious sauce in to-go containers. If you plan on eating right away, they do offer a paper tray, lined with aluminum foil. It should be noted, The Sampler, which includes 3 big balls, please note the seafood, vegan, and mini calzones are not included. If you want to know where their food truck will be found, you can check them out via Instagram or FaceBook. One of the ladies even told me you can sign up for their email list for updates, promotions, and where they will be to follow them. Can't wait to try out more of their specials. I've got my eyes on their eggplant parmigiana!

The scenic route up adds to the mystique of what you hope to be a mystical ménage a trois of flavor, texture and relief from the great icy meal known as ice cream. It was a Sunday afternoon, in June... I lied, it was July. But it's July now? Keep up. Daunting day. The sky filled with thunder and water to wash away the spring of heat that leaped us into proper summer. Tan - looking like the man - I toss on my beater and jump in the whip with my foreman (forewoman.) We set off for our journey knowing we had a time limit - I needed to return to see the Norwegians Renaissance. The dismantling of the Joga-Bonitoless Brazilians. The beauty and cruelty of calcio. So I skip-to-the-Lou my darlings... we park in a strange parking lot and line dance our way to an ever growing crowd on a strange day and time and weather for people to be here. However, must I remind the folks... the line was full of Westchesterites crawling through a desert for a dessert. Yes you read that right. Westchester is a dessert desert. No truly top tier ice cream - all, in my experience, relatively good/great. And so, although the king karries the name... you could label me as suspicious. Exceedingly, not relatively, suspicious As the Inspector Clouseau I am, lovely weather we are having... I knew my suspicions were likely reality. It was likely that a starved civilization of Westchester, desperate for an amazing cold cream would overhype a nostalgically good option to stardom. So, my final thoughts. Is it fatal? If so... how fatal? Good question, and better answer coming... as always. Stay with me here I'm going to go rapid fire - In dire need to wrap this up. This is good ice cream. It's not great. It's not worth a 30 min drive. The price is simply outrageous. Up there with the greatest price gauges I've seen. If you want to argue there's no quality ice cream shortage in the county then tell me how in Katonah, King Kone is charging these prices? And finally, the staff here is INCREDIBLY RUDE. Read my reviews. I rarely even mention the service. But if you're the king, you better serve me like I'm a queen. This staff is disappointingly brutal. If I'm in a pinch I'll flinch before giving this place my Da Vinc. It's good. It's not a great. It's not King. It deserves its Kone but not it's Krown. I'm tickling to give this joint 3 stars for the full experience but I'll stay impartial. I'll stay real. I've give ya a good deal. A lucky 4. A clover... I'll maybe be back - but this review is over.

I've heard so many great things about the cheong fun here and how cheap it is. I was recommended to go earlier in the day since they leave early or whenever they're sold out. Considering it's street food, take the cleanliness to your liking. My family and I got 5 different bowls and the total came out to $18 which is NOT bad at all. They offer soy sauce, peanut sauce, and/or chili sauce. Definitely only get the soy sauce for the protein options and peanut sauce + soy sauce for the plain one! Take it from me, my dad ordered all three sauces in all of our bowls and it was too much flavor mixing together in your mouth. Food: Plain Cheong Fun (8.4/10): The silkiest, softest cheong fun I've put in my mouth. You must eat this right away. This is not a take-home option because it will clump up together. Take it from me, I made the mistake of bringing this back on a 15 minute subway ride. Although I had to wait to enjoy, it was still delicious. Dried Shrimp Cheong Fun (7.6/10): I love a good dried shrimp and green onion cheong fun but this one didn't really hit the spot for me. I wish there was dried shrimp within the cheong fun. I maybe got a few pieces within each bite but those bites were still delicious.

This time I found the opportunity and am glad I can say I've been now! Its literally a small cart on the corner of the street intersection. There was a line formed and so we just followed suit. No place to sit to eat, so just be mindful of that - especially since the containers they give you the food in can be super hot! We ordered one fresh shrimp rice roll, and waited about 10 minutes for our food to come out. It is PIPING hot so it was hard to hold and eat, but we managed. The first few bites were delicious and the rice roll was super silky. However I felt like since it was shoved inside the plastic container, the rice roll keeps cooking in its own heat, and thus got overly goopy. Still, I enjoyed the cheap snack on the street, but have definitely had better long-standing rice rolls in NY.
