I had great service today!…read more First time. Can't believe I live like 1/4 mile from here and this is my first time. Parking on either side of the building is easy. Drive thru had about 4 cars, I'm not really a drive thru person. I like going in, seeing people face to face, person to person. Feel the vibe. The vibe is laptops 100% Apparently this is the place to work. So no seating was available. But for today, I was dashing to an appointment anyway. Looked over their menu that was posted up on the wall. Decided on a chocolate mint drink. Could taste the chocolate, but there was no mint to the drink. Customer service was great. The cost of the drink with tip was $8.00. Drink wait time was just a couple minutes. Pretty quick. I didn't take pictures because I didn't want to get people's faces. But the inside was clean. All the seats along the wall were taking by laptop people. So wanted to give them their privacy. They do offer non caffeinated drinks. Maybe when the weather gets hotter I'll try one of those as a comparison.

What do you get when you cross Starbucks with mediocrity?…read more You get Black Rock Coffee Bar. Black Rock follows the Starbucks formula like a dedicated wannabe. The espresso is worse. Given the fact that Starbucks espresso is godawful ... That is an impressive accomplishment. * * * The interior decorating is far worse. To understand what is wrong with Black Rock's room design, You have to think a little bit about what interior decorating does for a retail restaurant chain. * * * Restaurants can either be energizing or calming. You want energizing if you are either selling fun or you need you need high turnover so you can sell high volume. A little kid pizza palace needs to be fun, so all the kids beg their parents to take them to your establishment. Fast food needs to be high turnover. You are selling burgers or whatever at very low margins. So you need those customers in the door then out the door so new ones can come in and buy more stuff. * * * The classic success story in energizing interior decorating is McDonald's. Never mind the arch part - although to be fair that was a touch of trademark defining genius. The bright lights, and the white red and yellow are tremendously energizing. You come in - you get peppy - you eat fast - you get out fast. * * * Starbucks is one of the great classics in calming interior decorating. Starbucks wants you to come in with your computer, or come in with a friend with whom you want to have a soulful conversation. In both cases, you will be staying there a long time. There is a little bit of a build the tab logic. If you stay there long enough, you will order a second drink or another snack. But mostly that tranquility is what made you come to Starbucks in the first place. You would not have had that writing session or that soulful conversation in a McDonalds. * * * How does Starbucks accomplish this visually? Their color scheme is one of the great accomplishments of corporate interior decorating. Natural woods. Light grays. Dark green accents. You slow down immediately on entering. * * * The Black Rock Interior Decorators missed the larger economic logic of what they are trying to accomplish. They decorated in energetic and perky ... With bright colors and and even brighter fluorescent lights. There is nothing visually mellow about Black Rock. The bright perky colors do what bright perky colors do. They make the customer feel energetic. So feeling energetic, I got up and left. * * * To be fair, having just drunk an awful espresso helped with the got up and left part. The caffeine made me energetic. The hating my coffee made me want to get out of there. That said, there was more to this than just the coffee. Starbucks espresso has just as much caffeine as does a Black Rock espresso. The room is what keeps you sitting in your chair. * * * I suspect their sweet and elaborate drinks are just fine. I did not have one so I do not know. But I go to coffee houses to get work done. The fact that I can get a Mocha Raspberry Figatooti for a beverage is a side point. There are lots of places that will sell me a Mocha Raspberry Figatooti. I go shopping for a room that will remove distractions and maximize my clarity of thought. Nothing maximizes your clarity of thought at a Black Rock Coffee.

Finding vegan and gluten free donuts is not easy, and ones that are actually satisfying is even harder. I got one of each option - chocolate glazed, powdered, and cinnamon sugar, and had them all downed before getting home. They were $4 each, which I felt was a fair value. Although they're cake donuts, they still have a very satisfying chew to them. The location was also cute, and the staff were all very nice. I'll be happy to have any reason to be in the area again in the future, just to swing by and grab some treats.

And they do offer a drive through as well. For my surprise bag, I got a to-go box full of donuts. I also got a cup of donuts holes and I think a kolache in a paper bag. I'm floored how much I got. I'll be eating donuts for weeks! I'm pretty sure I can freeze them and they will be just as good as fresh. At least that's what I'm hoping for. The cashier that packed the donuts up and handed them to me was very nice. We talked about the app for a moment. Really happy I discovered this app. Saves a lot of money. And if you want to try something but not spend a lot, this is a great way to try a new business out. Helps a business out by not wasting so much food as well. It's a win for both parties. Their donuts are delicious. With gluten free and vegan options. I've had a latte here before too. And their coffees are good too. I will come back.

Four Points is increasingly getting all sorts of nifty South American establishments tucked away…read morehere and there. Most are food trucks - but this is a full fledged brick and mortar bakery. And Peruvian at that. I kill for Peruvian anything. That said, if you are looking for savory pastries, you have just come to El Dorado. They do a mushroom puff that is die and go to heaven good. It is a phyllo dish with a char. When was the last time you saw a char on a phyllo dish. The pastry itself is knock your socks off. The filling is knock your socks off. * * * Unlike the other 99,999 other Yelpers who have come here and given the Latin Bakery 88 star reviews, I am NOT big on their sweet pastries. For good Peruvian desserts, I like Brasas Peruanas in Downtown Round Rock. They make a chocolate cake with passion fruit frosting that is the only reward you will ever need in life. Desserts here run to the oversized and cloying. My first reaction was "Sugar Bomb". My second reaction was "Yes, there is a taste." My third reaction was "Am I done yet?" That is not the psychological experience you want when you are breaking your diet to have an over the top dessert. * * * So I promise to be a good boy and just have empanadas, main lunch dishes and coffee. My nutritionist will give me a half thumbs up. (She would have preferred I get a salad in the first place.) After their one or two of their savory pastries, I will be just as happy as if I had had my Aunt Caroline's famous and irresistible homemade chocolate sauce.

I remember the first time I visited, I was like a kid in a candy shop. Their offerings still blew me away on this visit. On this visit, I ordered a mushroom empanada and a pan muffin. The empanada was served warm and had plenty of mushrooms. I could eat 3 of these. The pan muffin was made with beer bread, garlic, and Italian seasoning. What a great discovery! I was happy that the garlic and seasoning were not overpowering, as I was heading to the gym post-brunch to work off these calories (LOL). Do not sleep on their coffee selections. I ordered my go-to, Cafe Latte. On my next visit, I foresee one of their specialty sandwiches in my future. Pro tip: If you are in the area, you can access the bakery via the HEB or Target parking lots, as well as 620 just after the Target.

Everything we tried was SUPER fresh, full of flavor, and didn't leave us needing a nap after. Plus, they've got the nutrition info right there for you AND the option to customize and boost your protein however you want! Some of our highlights: -The salmon salad was a FAV--light, zesty, and packed with flavor. You could taste how fresh the ingredients were in every bite. -The egg bagel sandwich? Delicious! The bagel had that perfect chewy texture, and we added tuna for an extra protein punch. -The chicken quesadilla was our "comfort food that won't weigh you down" choice--warm, satisfying, but still somehow light and energizing. -1/2 Size Mediterranean hummus... Dare we say it? It might just BEAT Aba's. a MUST!!! Creamy, Perfectly Salty, and downright addictive, especially with the spinach tortilla chips that they serve it with! On top of all that, the customer service was top notch--friendly, fast, and super helpful when we had questions about the menu. Heads up: Google map sucks at directions, but its right near the YMCA right there. Whether you're a health nut or just looking to dip your toes into the world of better-for-you meals without sacrificing taste, this place is absolutely worth the visit!
