Dr. Walter is a professional in every sense of the word. My entire family are patients. He's a gifted dentist. We don't even mind driving in from out of town for our visits. I recently had a double root canal, and Dr. Walter did a great job on my crowns. He is extremely personable, maintains great communication with his patients throughout the visit. Patient comfort and safety is his number one priority. He's also extremely patient. He listens well. The staff is not only professional, you'll leave feeling like you're a part of the family. First, Carol was WONDERFUL and had an AMAZING personality while taking x-rays of my teeth (new patient things ) She explained everything as she went along. Monday is by appointment Tuesday is 830-530 Wednesday is 9-6 Thursday the Dr is not physically onsite but staff members are in the office Friday is 830-530 Saturday is by appointment Sundays are closed All staff members wear gloves, masks, and face covers. You do get your temperature checked and you'd have to fill out a simple form upon checking in. Karen, who is usually handling the front desk is super sweet and kind. This review is long overdue! Dr. Walter and his staff and simply wonderful. I had a bad toothache, in the middle of the pandemic in April 2020. I called the office, left a message, and Dr. Walter called me back. After explaining my problem he set an appointment the next day and my toothache was soon over. The staff took all safety precautions to keep me safe from COVID. So much so, it was difficult to understand Dr. Walter with his face shield and mask on. But we got through it. He referred me to a specialist and I had first class root canal done in no time My daughter visited soon after mad service loved her time at the office as well. So I've made the jump to Dr. Rong's practice. Yes I drive close to 50 miles to make it here (Don't believe me? Look at my photo). Am I crazy being that I drive by possibly hundreds of other dentists? Absolutely not. I am so happy to be here among such great people. I always enjoyed Dr. Rong's humor, skill and approach to dentistry. It is what has kept me a client for 16 years. I can now say that I enjoy it all even more. This is his practice, so he's been able to shape it to his style and liking which is amazing. First, the office is so nice and relaxing. Clean and bright. Sometimes I think I'm coming in to see a high end stylist or masseuse (hey doc, that's a new idea! Think about it). The team he's put together are genuinely nice people. I love the ladies (I've met Karen and Ruby) and how friendly and caring they are. The team jives well and do awesome work. Doc uses technology to give you a great idea of your dental health. Your x-rays on a big screen? Check. Taking actual pictures of your teeth with a space age camera? Check. Going through all of this with Doc's expertise, patience and understanding? Checkmate. Some dental offices offer some of these components, but all if it put together with the staff as a nice big bow tie? Only here. I look forward to spending many years coming here. First off, Dr. Rong is a very nice doctor. He has great bedside manners. He really tried to help--whether or not he can help diagnosing your issues is a different story. With that said, when a dentist tells you he doesn't know what is causing the problem but let's do this first--run! I should have--a mistake that I regret for the rest of my life. Don't be fooled by these 5 stars Yelp reviews. To add insults to the injury, his staff's response to me was "we are general dental office." What was that supposed to mean?! Hello! Well im a nervous wreck! So today i had to have a filling. I worked my self into a bundle of nerves! After they took my x-rays, Dr. Rong took the time to walk me through what I was seeing and how he determined that I have the beginnings of some cavities. Have you ever left the dentist and have been like "That wasn't so bad...I actually don't mind coming back" No? Well, until my first visit I hadn't either! The dentist usually terrifies and shames me to no end! However Dr Rong was the complete opposite of the scary and judgmental dentist that I have been use to. He even paused mid teeth cleaning to ask if I was breathing...haha I guess I have a tendency to hold my breath when pairs of hands are in my mouth... Anyways, he and the staff--Ruby and Karen-- are so friendly, knowledgeable, and genuine people. There was absolutely no judgement or lecturing (I hadn't been to a dentist in over a year, and had some cavities...sigh) and instead of just telling me what they were going to do, they told me different options-- letting me know that there were choices. Just got done with a visit from Dr. Rong's office and I must say that i'm very pleased to have finally found my Dentist! He was extremely informative and explained the reasoning behind his recommendations. I appreciated these explanation as other Dentist I've seen in the past never took the time of day to explain anything to me! I"ve always felt very rushed out at other offices but not with Dr. Rong. He did a through job at cleaning my teeth and although i'm sad that I have to return for a deep cleaning and other things, it makes it better that his entire team are so pleasant to be around. This review is much overdue, from about 29yrs back to almost 3 years ago (2/2012) when I met & was treated by Dr.Walter Rong for the first time! Yes, you heard it right 29 yrs I've known and received assisted treatment from the two BEST dental assistants, KAREN & RUBY, in West Covina/Covina area while assisting Dr. Katherine Forbes and now her successor, Dr.Walter Rong ( since she transferred her dental practice to northern California in 2012). THEREFORE, THIS WILL BE AN EXTREMELY LONG REVIEW. AND HOPE IT'S HELFUL TO YOU? Dr..Forbes, always ran a very caring, professional & orderly dental practice , inasmuch that upon preparing to pursue her practice in Northern California she notified her patients by mail and made sure to leave her patients in "good hands" upon her departure. By this I mean she brought in Dr. Rong to work side of her for a period of time to meet and give dental treatment to patients as per the regularly scheduled appointments. I personally thought that was a great way for patients and new dentist (Dr.Rong) to familiarize themselves. I've ALWAYS been very FEARFUL of going to the dentist and receiving any kind of treatments . Over the many years, Dr.Forbes , eased my fear of some of the smaller procedures but " ROOT CANALS" were my WORST nightmare, and I'm sure Ruby, & Karen can still attest to that ! Dr.Forbes was my Best dentist, but when it came to "root canals" I'm positive I was their WORST patient ! After learning that Karen and Ruby would remain with Dr.Rong"s practice....I decided, to give Dr.Rong a try since they're like family to me, knowing all my dental fears & still putting up with me.....I said "why not?", if I didn't like it.I can always change dentist later. Now, I've brought you up to date of how I've come to know Dr.Walter Rong! Since 2/2012 I've been getting regular teeth cleanings, fillings and crowns from Dr. Rong. Learning from the start of my MANY fears, he has a way of talking to you, telling "corny" jokes or whatever it takes to put you at ease (which I thought was utterly impossible for me") He also explains "each and every" thing of what he is about to do so you won't get any surprises(now that is a big PLUS for him). And what I like the MOST is his very own (signature-way that he NUMBS you without you feeling ANYTHING) I know that seems IMPOSSIBLE...but just ask him to "shake your jaw" while numbing and see for yourself. :). Now, I saved the BEST FOR LAST, just 2 weeks ago 12/16/14, thinking since I'm no longer afraid of the numbing shot and the cleaning, fillings & crown ; I could now tackle the (ROOT CANAL) that was long overdue. With Dr.Rong"s expertise, caring attitude, step by step verbal walk-thru, checking on your condition almost every 5 mins.(note: I have severe high blood pressure) and with a very highly qualified assistant Ruby, alongside him...GUESS WHAT? Within 2 hours Dr Rong, not only DID the ROOT CANAL, also did (2) filings and (2) crown preps in just one sitting!!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? Afterwards, I went home , (of course still numb but NO PAIN.) didn't even need a prescription for pain medicine; I ate lunch, took a nap and was awakened in about 2 hrs. by Ruby/Dr.Rong to check on me (because I had multiple procedures done (per my own request) to complete prior to end of year insurance allocations). The following day Karen called to further check on me....numbness/swelling all gone...BACK TO NORMAL ! I'm sorry for this very lengthy review, but I know some of you that are looking for great dental work done by professional and empathetic staff, may be just as fearful as I once was. My biggest fear was a ROOT CANAL, not any longer...I think I can withstand any dental treatment now. DR. WALTER RONG is so gentle, caring, such an expert, extremely knowledgeable and even try to throw a little humor at you during the process...He has truly erased my biggest fear. I look forward to going to the dentist now, with hopes of saving my teeth during my senior years. So, whatever is "WRONG", DR."RONG" will make it "RIGHT"', give him a try! I have never had work done besides the regular filling every now and again (since i have that crazy sweet tooth) but apparently my sugary habits have caught up with me.
