I've been to several Walmarts in the LA area and had some bad experiences that leave me wary of going to any Walmart. However, I spent 3.5 hours at this WalMart, and I can honestly say I left in good spirits. During my time here, I interacted with at least 10 different associates, and all of them were helpful, friendly, and patient. I was looking for a long list of different items, so I asked for a lot of help, and every associate responded kindly--unlike past experiences at different Walmarts where associates acted huffy/like I was wasting their time and/or had no interest in helping me. One associate (who seemed like a manager) walked across the whole store with me, helping me find different items I wasn't able to find on my own. He looked up missing items in the system to see if the store might have any, and he never seemed eager to get rid of me. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because this Walmart's inventory system has issues where it says the store has products on hand when it doesn't, so then they never sell the products and the products never get restocked. So if you desperately need something, call the store in advance and have someone physically check to make sure they have it. Don't shop at this Walmart. Customer service is lousy and unhelpful. Customer Service Manager and Supervisor don't make logical decisions and blames store issues on customers. We attempted to buy Halloween candy at 50% off but management said no discount is available even though candy was stocked on pallets and under the discount sign. Management said customers misplaced the candy and it's not Walmart's fault. Didn't know customers could move pallets of candy and shelf it incorrectly. read more

Today I was very disappointed in the stores conduct regarding the shopping bags that are normally available for 10 cents. I went there to shop happily as I usually do. Browsed around for about 1-1/2 hours and loaded my basket up with items, mainly groceries and household items. When I reached the cashier and proceeded to load my items for scanning, the cashier then tells me, "we have no bags available for purchase". SHOCKING!! I had a basket full of items!!!! WHY IS THERE NO SIGN POSTED AT THE ENTRANCE ALERTING THE CUSTOMERS OF THIS INFORMATION UPFRONT??!! CUSTOMERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED, AS THEY WALKED IN THE DOOR. THIS IS POOR COMMUNICATION! Some days, this Walmart is fine but other days it's terrible. The workers are just plain weird. They block sections since they are always stocking isles. Incidentally, there are also whole sections that aren't fully stocked. Sometimes the employees are helpful and sometimes they act like you are bothering them when you have a simple question. I called to ask if they had a book in stock and the sales assistant who answered the phone was super helpful, patient, and friendly! She told me to hold while she finished a transaction and quickly wrapped up. Once she was back on the phone, she took the time to check their inventory. When she found out they didn't have the book, she did some online research and told me where else I could pick it up. Her work saved me a trip and although they didn't have what I needed, I appreciated the stellar customer service of their employees. I never write reviews but this time I will because I can't take this situation out of my mind, yesterday I was at customer service waiting in line when I see a very hostile "manager" demanding another employee to remove a cashier from the register to speak with her, the way she demanded was very uncomfortable for a few of us there. I understand sometimes managers need to speak with other workers but this is not the way to do it! Love how big this Walmart is but first waited over 30-40 mins to open something that was locked up. no ever one came, I pushed their "need assistance" button 3 times within 10 mins of each other they had kept announcing that our isle needed our help but still nobody came... after the 3rd time I tried pushing it a few more times & they had stopped announcing our assistance.. finally I had to ask someone to help us because nothing was happening, she was nice and looked for someone to open it up.. they finally said that they needed to find the key... they took about about another 20 mins and finally someone came!! Ever since this corona virus has started businesses have been acting crazy and they are not properly training their employees. First off you don't have signs clearly marked that say enter and exist so it makes it hard to know where to go. The store is great, this review is for an employee by the name of Jessi. He's "checking" your receipt at the exit. I was walking out and swerved slightly to avoid hitting another customer walking in and he right away accused me of trying to leave the store without him drawing a pretty little line on my receipt. I got my flu shot taken at the walmart pharmacy. Probably the shortest time i've ever spent waiting ever and they had some excellent customer service! They had these new bandages that I've never seen before. The pharmacist who gave me a shot put this new bandage on my arm first. The bandage is very thin and elastic. She explained they can inject the flu shot right through the bandage making the experience quick with no cleanup. VERY COOL and SUPER hygienic! Personally, I didn't even feel the shot at all. Definitely getting my future shots here if they keep using that bandage. read more

I've been here a few times. It's clean and big and not too crowded. Customer service definitely needs to be improved however. The last time I came a manager rung me up and he wasn't very pleasant. His badge said Customer Service but his attitude said something else. Today I stopped by again to get a few items. I asked an employee where I could find some glow in the dark stars for my brothers room. Mind you I was in the Toy section. She said, "not here, try the art section". Confused I walked over to the art section and was told "that's in hardware". What? So pretended to go to Hardware and saw another employee. Asked her and in Spanish she told me, "in celebrations". At this point I was giving up and saw one last employee asked her, and with an attitude she said "I don't have that in this department (which I knew, I was by electronics) "try toys". So there I go, thinking "this is seriously dumb. Sure enough they were an aisle from where the first employee said they wouldn't be. Worse experience ever. I think that it is a basic inconvenience to me as a consumer to have to wait in your store for a product to be retrieved from a locked container, and then taken to a register that everyone else is waiting in because they had to go through this insane ordeal. I was in your Downey, Walmart Supercenter #4132, 9001 Apollo Way store and had to wait 25 Min for a flea Collar. When I talked to Asst. Manager David, which was rude and unprofessional acted as if I as a consumer did not matter, my waist of 25 Min for a flea Collar was not impotent. Well if you keep treating us as consumers as not impotent, and inconvenience to your store your price on products wont mean anything because we will be shopping somewhere else. read more

I recently went to this Wal-Mart although this isn't my usual Wal-Mart. I try to avoid walmart and if i must stop at one it's usually the one in paramount because the women at the door named Debra is a delight and probably the most professional and Gary is a character, I love It. But at this Wal-Mart the atmosphere is defiantly different, its a bit more colder. I did happen to run into a young man that helped me in the pet section that has actually helped me in the paramount store. I don't know if he's helping this store out because of covid 19 but i remember him from the other store as a manager. Daniel is such a sweetheart and a hard worker. As I expected he didn't recognize me since he's met me once and I'm sure he goes above and beyond for everyone he comes across. But i always remember a person with strong leadership skills. He passed by the pet section and helped me get someone to grab a giant bag of pet food and even got someone to help carry it out. He was terribly busy but didn't put me on the back burner because of it. This darling young man needs to be recognized by his superiors. He's the reason why I continue to put hope into walmarts. When a person can't help, they shouldn't say oh well, they make a way even if they can't physically do it. He shows great initiative. Someone set this young man up with a promotion. read more

Was just here on Sunday evening. I was looking for my favorite cashier, but he wasn't working. He was always nice to me, very helpful and seemed genuine when he made a mistake on a previous visit. But I felt I shared some fault in that visit. But let me say some good things about this store and why I keep coming here. It was very busy as it usually is at night, but there were plenty of cashiers so the wait was not bad. The cashier was nice. I also liked how when I requested service to get shaving cream the lady came to help me pretty fast and even apologized for having me wait because she was helping somebody. I thought that was really nice because it didn't even feel I had waited long. Will come back for sure and hoping I'll run into my favorite cashier again! read more

My review counts! This Walmart is super Ghetto! You would never think that it's a Walmart in Downey. I saw a commercial the other day that had the Rocky theme song..it was a commercial how you can order groceries online and pick up at the store.. in this commercial it shows the Walmart employee selecting carefully thr fruits and veggies..well..this Walmart does not fit that commercial world. I went today and the fruits and veggies look old..really damaged..some dirty..I mean the fruit and veggies look (are not) spoiled ..I mean ..they look and here's the correct word, like the left over fruits and veggies that other stores rejected ..I'll tell you this much, the 99 cent store has fresher fruits and veggies than this Walmart. Theres lots and I mean lots of damaged Cans on the shelves and theyte still trying to sell them. I'm surprised many items are over priced ..yes...overpriced! 1 positive thing happened on my visit..I was carrying alot of things ..none of the things I mentioned above..and a Walmart employee asked me if I needed a kart..she went quickly outside and brought one for me..that was super cool..mad respect for that employee..thats awesome customer service. I wanted to get a toy for my son and it showed they had 3 in stock. When I couldn't find it I asked a guy who worked there. He said it should be there if not they were sold out but he said let me call my manager. When he did his manager just brushed it off saying if it wasn't there it wasn't there. They didn't even try to look. So annoying. They said that was the only place they would be. My groceries that I ordered on line were delivered today. There were some items missing, one of which I really needed. Customer Service was good to do refunds on those items. However, Walmart does not automatically do a reorder for items that were missed, I was giving the representative my reorder & it was not meeting the $35.00 minimum, but it was $11.01 short. Walmart's computer system does not have the flexibility to have this requirement overridden. This is amazing to me since this error was Walmart's fault. There is something in writing in which Walmart says that the customer is the boss. I would say, "No, the customer is not their boss, their computer system is." Walmart needs to have their programer(s) fix this computer problem. This was a very disappointing experience for me & unless Walmart is willing to correct this computer problem, I will never order on-line groceries from Walmart again. read more

But I went to Walmart because it was near from where I was and I needed deodorant so I figured ill go in real quick and buy it. But to my surprise most of the personal hygiene items were locked up, and of course the deodorants was one of those items. So I had to wait for someone to come unlock it. And then they don't give it to you they take it to a register. So When I was ready to check out I went to the register the man had told me to go to, but it was not there. So they said I had to wait for it. I waited, but I got tired of waiting so I just left. Now I remembered why I do not shop at Walmart. Not going back even if its on my way. I have lived in Downey for 11 years and when Walmart arrived I was very excited. I felt finally one close. I shopped here for years. Recently to my surprised they have locked up the majority of the personal hygiene items. It almost feels like an invasion of privacy. It was really sad hearing every 3 minutes over the PA (unlock on isle...). Did the store ever consider how this would effect their budget in having to hire more people just to unlock a cabinet? When you hire more then the prices can't remain low. I now feel like this store does not trust the community. I get it that some people steal things however the community should not be punished for the bad acts of some. So disappoint and now I will return to Target get my 5% card and the prices will be about the same.
