I came by for Alaskan goodies like jams, salmon, candies and all that to send in a package down to the lower 48. While there u thought I'd check out the housewares and look for new sheets for my guest room. What I didn't like: they're missing tons of prices on the Alaskan goods. They also have a very small selection compared to other Walmarts nearby. If you're looking for Alaska souvenirs this isn't the best Walmart to go to. They also have a huge amount of things behind glass that you need an attendant for. Every other aisle it feels like needs an attendant. What I do like is one: the people who work here are so friendly, work hard, keep the store clean and are eager to help (mostly) I also think that this location has a nice produce selection, and foods that cater to a different demographic of shoppers. They have a wide variety of things like home decor that I don't feel like all the other stores have. This one I see cuter home decor at and they have the little couch, and bed and dining table staged areas so you can conceptualize ideas for new products. I like the setups of the aisles, and it feels very modern with good selections of trendy clothes. So with this location there's good and bad. I come here only when it's convenient but it is still a nice Walmart inside. read more

Walmart has fairly cheap Alaska souvenirs. I bought a turquoise sweatshirt, magnet, koozie and t shirt. There is no mirror next to it and not as much selection as Eagle River store. Dressing rooms were locked, and no one was around to open them. 10 cents for a paper bag. read more

Overcharged, I caught it had to go to customer service to get it refunded. it will take 3-5 business days to be refunded even though they made the mistake there is nothing they can do. the customer service rep was rude extremely unhelpful. be watchful at the cash register so you don't have to go through this hassel. read more

After twenty minutes looking for two items I was shocked to see the biggest line I've seen in a retail store. It was a mild black Friday. I've been very happy with this Walmart for several years. Good selection, good prices. And Rustler mens jeans for $13.50 a pair! I even found a rare halogen light bulb that fit my 1970's desk lamp. I did notice recently that many shelves were bare. Guess a Tote barge Was late arriving into Anchorage as even Fred Meyer and Carrs were low on many items. Came all the way via bus to the Walmart to buy an iron and ironing board. Greeter does not greet me, instead tells me I am not allowed to bring a backpack inside ... recall that I arrived in winter and will have to carry it back on the bus. Resolution: I had to leave it out. Fine, I just will get what I came for and never come back. Well the Walmart was out of ironing boards. I asked whether they had any in the back. Nope. I left. Never order delivery from this store. They don't grab your items for your order till 10 minutes before the order is supposed to be delivered, so even if your item is unavailable they wont replace it nor can you replace it because there isnt enough time left on the order to replace it. They will still charge you the holding fee so you wont see that money for at least 10 days after the order is fulfilled and there isnt a single thing they will do for you or that you can do. read more

Went to pick up a few items. Ended up filling my cart with groceries. So I go to check out with full cart of groceries and find out no bags NO GROCERIE BAGS TO CARRY YOUR SMALL ITEMS. I have a full cart and no way to carry groceries out of store. Also no way from truck into home. What a hassle. Long line in store, but you can replace the cashier and do them yourself but no money off your groceries still no bags and you are doing the work and no pay. Very poor customer service. Not to mention the other customers who do not pay attention while they are shopping, run into you, cut you off. Or block the whole eisle. read more

Brand new walmart and it shows! The store always looks so neat and we'll kept when I've gone. Really it's very similar to other walmart product wise but what sets this one apart from others I've been to is the level of customer service. The greeter was very welcoming and actually does his job, and also makes a point to verify your purchases. I really hope their quality of work continues. I prefer this Walmart above all other Walmarts in town. This Walmart is huge compared to all the other ones and has a lot more variety. They've got a super duper lot more selection of home goods and clothing. Like, A LOT. And the grocery section also has much more variety and ethnic selections. They are often out of items on weekends when they get slammed by shoppers, so its best to shop during the week. I also love the layout of this Walmart which is the most logical I've ever encountered. It's Walmart! Few employees and slow customer service but you expect that. This store is huge with everything imaginable including a Subway! Subway inside for a quick meal. The shelves are stocked full with lots of options. The prices are cheap like the Chinese sweatshop wears, but you get what you pay for. Walmart is great. read more

If you need help with any specific product - just forget it. The staff speaks barely English. I asked for the shelf with kitchen clean products and a staff member .....appointed me in a wrong direction!?! Even when the registers are working one need at least 15 min for check out just because the cashiers are doing their job remarkably slowly. Anyway, this exact location offers really good deals and very low prices. Recently, I took a decent bike with aluminum frame on half price. Staffs like electronics, groceries, clothes and especially food are at really nice prices. The quality of the products usually is decent. However, when I am buying online the prices could be better than in the shop, especially when it is about electronics. Please, be aware thet late at night and even during the day a lot of shady persons are hanging around the cars asking for money, cigarettes and goods from your basket. read more

I came down here to pick up some groceries and a new pair of jeans while running errands. This Walmart is my preferred spot as opposed to the other two locations in Anchorage. This place is located near the corner of Debarr and Muldoon next to AK USA Federal Credit Union and across the street from Begich Middle School. The parking lot is the most spacious and navigable of the three stores and spaces are always available not far from the entrances even during the late afternoon-early evening rush. Unlike the other two, the wide parking lot won't give you an issue of backing out of a space only to have a close call from another motorist backing out at the same time or a car driving by when visibility is blocked by larger vehicles in narrow parking spaces. The employees here are more approachable and helpful here and they actually take the time to check on an item if one is not found on the shelf. Employee assistance is nearly non-existent at the South Anchorage location as all of the employees are found at the front by the registers. The busy rush times are manageable and tolerable here without a sense of being overwhelmed or packed in like sardines when standing in line at the front. I found a great pair of Wrangell Jeans on sale for around $20.00 compared to other stores that sell them for $25-$35 per pair. I also found a great deal on a three movie DVD set for only $7.50 which had some excellent films like No Country For Old Men, Gangs of New York, and Gone Baby Gone. Movies of this quality are usually sold at $9.99 separately at other locations. Another key factor is the freshness of the meat and produce at this location. I found the prices on pork roast, baby back ribs, and certain cuts of steak to be several dollars less than the same type of meat that can be found elsewhere. The best deal I found was a morning special on a whole pork roast for $7.50 and the same cut was at New Sagaya for $15.00! I decided to bump this place up to three stars from two for the great deals, but I won't rate them any higher because of one consistent problem that I've always had when stopping in: the items I usually need are poorly stocked while other brands I don't really favor are readily available. However, this continues to be my go-to spot over midtown (the worst out of the three and constant visits from the police by unruly individuals wandering in from the street), and the Dimond location which has a serious issue with a narrow parking lot and bottle-necked cars waiting for an open parking space. read more

They get four stars for the checker I had today. Took care of six year old great niece today and the rubber boots I had for her were too small. Big surprise!!! After she said her toes were squished we went on a hunt for more. Target didn't have her size plus they were $30 to $36 which I deemed too much for a six year old. We went to Walmart. Not much selection but we found her size and they were girly looking too. I knew I had nothing to get the security straps off. Asked the checker if she had scissors and told her why. She kindly and patiently untied the strands and tore off the tags for us. What a sweet young woman. I had other errands and didn't want the child to walk in too small shoes. I could have bought something to remove them but thought I could tear them off while waiting in line (I couldn't). A lot of vagrants in parking lot. I usually don't mind but hate when they approach me when I have a child along. These today were staggering around and I didn't like it. Saw no sign of security but know they can't be everywhere. I thought everything seemed picked over and there were a lot of empty places on shelves. All in all though I found what I wanted at a good price. This Walmart is on the other side of town so think I will stick with midtown when I have to do Walmart. read more

8/6/18--All those check stands but no one to man them. I then spent a full 20 minutes in line waiting at customer service to get a price correction. I asked the sole cashier to get help and he called a manager, Mai, to help him with a customer and DID NOT ask her to get another cashier. Then Mai started leave, completely ignoring the 5 people in line, so I asked her to send a cashier to help. She dismissed me with a raised finger pointed in my direction and said, "in a minute". Many minutes later a very efficient and friendly cashier named Maddie came and flew through the two customers still in front of me. That one star is for Maddie. read more

This shit happened at the Sporting good section. Lazy guy wouldn't check me out because I had some groceries with me. When I asked him for help he didn't answer till I said it louder next to his face. He pretended like he was organizing stuff on the shelf with one hand and the other in his pocket. He Said he's not allowed to check out groceries(egg,chips,juices) with sporting stuff. I've done it before many times. Went to the front and the cashier lines were longer than ever and slow! This is a good Walmart for variety. Where else can you find bacon bits but of the chorizo variety? There is an excellent produce section, I'm not kidding. My daughter loves the frozen section of the junk food kind. The clothing section is weird and with very cheap items. I don't think I found anything I'd wear there unless it was dance wear like a leotard or lounge wear like sweats. Shoes have a decent variety if you're looking for athletic. The lingerie and tight section shines. Not many bras in my size but I always buy fishnets and other tights and boot socks. If you're trying to do anything money related on a Friday, do it early. They move their money slowly. read more

There needs to be a ZERO stars option! Pharmacy experience was horrible! (Backstory: my adult son had oral surgery, first surgery in his life). Drove to this pharmacy knowing it would take time to fill. Had to take him because of identification and insurance. #1 I was told 20-25 minutes. There is one Pharmacist (D) and 3 pharmacy techs working. We go grab post-surgical foods and items to make recovery easier/more tolerable. Give them extra time (50 minutes). #2 One tech (E) says that part of the prescriptions are ready and no idea when the rest (pain med) will be, so I can just come back later. I explain again that my son is with me and I can't drive the distance home only to wait or return immediately. #3 E says, well I will put this last prescription in the computer then. WHAT THE HECK? Why wasn't it done with the first two? #4 D jumps in with "if it's a controlled substance we don't have any control over when we can dispense it." WHAT WALMART PHARMACY doesn't have control of dispensing a common pain med? #5 It's great that 3 of you speak a different language and can make fun of your customers. When you are in the back, looking directly at me, hurry and drop your head and mumble in your language and 3 people burst out laughing (the 4th gets it explained, looks at me and laughs loud and long), it's hard not to know who's the butt of your joke. #6 Everyone was looking a E when I was paying for the prescriptions. You probably don't think I heard you when she said, "I'll take care of this" and you responded "thank you" in a dramatic sigh of relief. I felt very disrespected. This is the worst Walmart I've EVER been to. They are ALWAYS OUT OF EVERYTHING! Their diapers are a little cheaper than Fred Meyer but they are constantly out of every brand and size. I went there to buy eggs once, not a single box of eggs in the entire store. They are always out of whole milk too. Not once, of the many times that I've been to the store, has an employee asked to assist me. We had great expectations when this was going to open. Seeing that there wasn't any kind of build-up or special event to celebrate its opening should have been a clue. Its clear what the corporation thinks of the demographics for this location. Basically its a warehouse that is laid out in a very unattractive manner. Basic services like optometry aren't featured. It's dark, dingy and seemingly has less variety than the other Walmarts. When I travel across the Lower 48 I see certain items that are reflective of the customer base that services that region. Not so here. No diversity, long lines that take forever to get through and an environment that is more reflective of shopping in a location that doesn't reflect the affluence of the American experience. The store on Debarr is not customer friendly. When a friend discovered the store did not have what she wanted, she asked if any of the other stores had it in stock and asked the clerk to call and check. He told her no, he wouldn't. Another friend asked to have someone paged (she had recently had surgery). The clerk did page the person but the person could not understand the page. I wanted to buy some day-old bakery items and they wanted to charge me the full price. The supervisor came over and I couldn't get her to understand (English wasn't her first language) the product should not have been charged the full price. Finally, she says, oh, this is old - we can't sell it. I was going to buy the store brand of cheese and they wanted to charge more than the name brand! The employees look as if they are all having a bad day and the clothes they're selling seem cheaper than ever. I enjoyed going to Sam's - the employees were helpful and courteous. The pharmacy was outstanding but at Walmart, you can wait for 15 minutes to get an answer to your prescription questions. Oh, well, I guess it's time to join Costco! I won't go back to this Walmart!
