My 20 year-old Black Daughter who is a College Junior and Entrepreneur who also drives an ambulance, along with her roommates was profiled in this store by what she described as a Caucasian woman with gray hair and another woman whom she believes to be of Asian descent. They shopped for items together for their apartment, paid for them and were then harrassed for about 15 minutes. One of her roommates (6'4 270lbs Black male football player) allowed them to scan each of his items to show his receipt matched those items that he picked up out of the cart. He understands what could happen if he is seen as a threat. The other roommates had gone to the car with their portion of the purchases. My daughter was embarrassed and angry. They had been extremely rude to them from the beginning of the process. Aside from that, after waiting on line and then for an additional 15 minutes the food that should have been frozen or cold was no longer as it should have been. She stated that she wanted a refund for the entire 52 item order. One of the employees walked her iver to Customer Service. After a few more minutes she was told that her refund would appear on her card in 7-10 business days. Her refund never appeared. Before she involved me, she wrote to corporate, was given phone numbers to speak to the site manager, as they were unable to assist her at that point. Then Corporate indicated they needed to speak to the store manager. Thus far there has been no resolution. Perhaps they never closed out her transaction. Perhaps someone restocked the items before everything was processed. She is 20 years-old and trusts the digital age. Therefore, she has no paper receipt and never received her refund. For months, she is getting the run around. One hundred and fifty dollars isn't a lot of money in general but it is to a student who is supporting herself. It would cost me that much in gas and tolls to go in person and try to get someone to be accountable. It's the principle. Needless to say, she and her fellow students' will be shopping at Target from now on.

A friend who misses The Bread Butler, maybe even more than I, told me that there was an excellent…read moresourdough bread being baked by Anicca Bakery in Troy and sold at the Honest Weight Co-op. I was at the Co-op the next day. A variety of their breads are located in a shelf display across the aisle from all the other breads. I saw sandwich rolls, French baguettes, plain sourdough, three seeds sourdough, whole wheat sourdough, plain challah, everything topped challah, and a couple of variations that I don't recall. Some of the loaves are also available in half-loaf sizes. I purchased a loaf of 3 Seed Sourdough ($8.69) and a loaf of Everything topped Challah ($7.29). Both are excellent in their own right. The 3 seeds on the sourdough are organic dry roasted pumpkin, organic dry roasted sunflower, and organic golden flax seeds. Anicca makes a point of stating that they make every attempt to obtain all their ingredients within 200 miles of the Troy bakery. The sourdough has a nice chewy crust and a decent sour flavor. The challah has a softer crust than the sourdough, just a bit of sweetness and a slightly lighter colored crumb. The challah is also double bagged for some reason. The loaf is placed in a plastic bag before it is placed in the outer paper bag. Maybe that was to protect the everything topping? If you visit their web page https://aniccabakery.com/ you will learn that you can order online and pickup your order at Alias Coffee Shop in Troy. You may also notice that their web page does not mention all the varieties of bread that I saw at the Co-op and shows a more limited production schedule. Maybe their web page is just not up to date. Another issue I ran into was knowing whether the bread was fresh. Glancing at the information on the label of my two choices, I saw that the sourdough was labeled as "Date Baked on10/29/25" (GREAT! That was today), while the challah was labeled as "Date Baked 10/30/25." WAIT!!! How can that be? 10/30/25 is not until TOMORROW!!! I checked several other packages and found that all the packages of challah were labeled with tomorrow's date. As an aside, does that mean I wouldn't be able to eat the challah until tomorrow? LOL Or better yet, if I eat it today does that mean the carbs don't exist yet? Still, LOL. In any event, a Co-op employee noticed my confusion and insisted on informing management while wondering if this meant the sourdough could have actually been sitting on the shelf since 10/28/25. Today or not, but probably tomorrow also, both breads were excellent. I'm looking forward to trying a whole wheat sourdough.

The store was organized, carried a large variety of items, and amazing bulk section. Every associate I interacted with was also friendly and helpful. When I asked one where to find a specific cheese, she stopped what she was doing and walked me over to the case. If I lived nearby, I'd shop here all the time. Until then, I'll continue to stop in as I come back to visit the area.

I called the deli to order a large amount of cold cuts and Bryan answered. He told me, "you have to…read morecome to the deli, we don't do that.'" It has been done before, but I didn't want to argue my point to Jason who has no interest in customer service. I called back and spoke to Jadon, who was funny and took my order for the following morning; no problem. I arrived and asked for my order and was told they didn't have it. I told the young man (who was very plesant", Jason has taken the order. The young man went to get another employee, who came out and told me,I think Bryan but can not be 100% sure- Sept 24, 2022), there was no order. I told him, I gave the order to Jason. He replied, "we do not take orders of the phone." I replied, "well he did." I know Jason wrote the order down because he read it back to me. The manger or who ever he was, thought it more important to explain why they don't take orders over the phone. As a manger, you should realize, customers dont care about processes of a company, they shop where they are treated good. After my deli order eas received, I walked to the bakery for the french bread I ordered the day before. They had it put aside for me, engaged in conversation, 100% service! I have had a lot of experiences shopping at this store and they are obviously doing a lot of work on their selection of employees. The store overall experiences have improved so much, very noticable. Just needs a little tweeking! The stars are for the bakery and the nice young man behind the deli counter who presented as happy to help. Bryan (or Ryan) get no stars).
