These guys knocked it out of the park today. Their Key Center staff was impressively knowledgeable, efficient, and kind, and went above and beyond to help us with a car key fitting. And just as importantly, I was reminded again of the joy of in-store shopping, as I looked in the bargain bins (lots of new stuff for $1!!) and elsewhere. The store reminded me of the days when we had scores of local hardware stores around the corner from my house. The shop was clean, clearly labeled and morganized, well organised, and at least one staff member greeted every person walking past, which really didn't happen that often. Oh, and the price is beyond competitive, and they have their own parking lot so parking wasn't an issue. I would go back to this shop and recommend it to others without hesitation. read more

I love going to this location. I go so frequently that the staff knows me by name and every employee I encounter goes out of their way to assist me. I always try to shop local vs the "big box" stores as I think it is important to shop with the little (or littler) business. On the rare occasion that I needed something that wasn't a rush the staff was happy to order it for me if it was out of stock. I have never had a negative experience at this business and I highly recommend them. read more

Absolutely atrocious customer service just now, from an older gentleman behind the counter. I went in asking if they have salt. He just looks at me and says "no" and let's me walk out of the store. I happen to see a ripped bag outside with what looks like salt spilling out, so I bring it inside. Apparently, it's technically called something else, and because I didn't call it the right thing, I didn't get helped. All he had to do was ask me what I wanted it for, or inform me of their other products. That's not too much to ask. read more

I came home from the office today to find that the house was 81°. The fan was running but the compressor outside was not. I pulled out my voltmeter and checked the capacitor and sure enough the capacitor had failed. I drove to Lowe's to pick up a new one and found out that they no longer stock capacitors in store. I had them check the system and that's true for any of those in the area. I then called home Depot and they told me the same thing at home Depot. Next, I called Ace, and sure enough they had two in stock. I asked the person to hold one for me and he checked for the spelling of my name and labeled it for me. The cost was around $30, which is twice to three times as much as buying it online, but the extra $20 to not have to try to sleep in 80 plus degree heat is absolutely worth it. They have plenty of parking, and great service. It's nice to still have independent hardware stores around. read more

This store is a lot larger than it appears from the outside, with aisle after aisle of useful items (and many of them Ace), well laid out and well marked. There were a lot of staff available to help you if necessary, and several registers open for checkout. read more

I went here this morning. I needed a key made. The cashier greeted me. There was no one at the key counter so I walked back to the service counter. A young man was on the phone. He saw me with key in hand & told me the key center was up front. I said I know but nobody was there.He said he would get someone. I heard him speak into the store intercom to get someone to the key desk. I walked back to the key center. I waited exactly five minutes & no one showed up. I then left in disgust. I drove to Hatchett Hardware on the corner of Fuller Rd & Central Ave. As soon as I walked in a gentleman waited on me. I would highly recommend them over Robinson's. read more

Great hardware store for finding exactly what you need for those small projects around the house.

It's a great hardware store and always has been - until now. They are trying to manage the covid19 in their store but are not able to stop idiots from following the store's directions to follow the path and keep a 6 foot distance or wear a facemask. When I was there at the computer desk ordering something they didn't have, I had 6 men walk within a foot of me and two of them were not wearing masks. Those men do not have the right to infect the rest of us. Robinson's has the right intentions but there are too many stupid, selfish and entitled people in Guilderland for them to manage this adequately. My advice would be to order via phone or online, then go pick it up and have them deliver it to your vehicle/ read more

When filling a 20 pound propane tank they do not bleed off your air in your tank. If you think you're getting a full tank you are not unless the person filling the propane tank bleeds it by unscrewing the bleed screw while filling the tank. read more

I am so satisfied with the exceptional service and help at this store. I needed glass cut to fit in a cupboard door and the staff person who helped me allowed me to be part of the measuring before the cuts and the quality check afterward. There were plenty of staff on to help customers, wiling to provide assistance and go the extra mile. read more

Wow they should call this the "Unhelpful Place". Being local I try to support the economy as best I can. The proximity of the facility made it worth seeing how they operiate via a few small items. To sum it up, completely rude & not knowledgeable of what they barely sell. Today the "manager" yelled rudely at a kid helping me. Failed patheticly to find a simple 1/2" lock washer or tell me the material the "fiber" crush washers were derived from. The place is small & cluttered with OVERPRICED merchandise piled to the roof. A 5 minute trip to Home Depot revealed 2 stainless washers for $1.27 as per the 90 cent cardboard "fiber" washer the "manager" new nothing about. I have come to a conclusion, we live in a free capitalistic nation. Businesses that keep a good inventory, clean shop, & friendly well trained staff will do well, therefore grow. This growth offers a chance to help the customers who got them there with both a premium shoping expierience & trained staff. I prefer to frequent establishments that don't need to rely on gimmick (a national franchised neighborhood hardware store) to entice customers. read more

This is for the small engine repair. Been there several times. First time was just for maintenance on my lawnmower. Didn't look like they did anything, but like I said, it was just maintenance. (It ran when I brought it in). They did, however, keep it for two weeks before I called and found out they had no record of it. I was about to raise a stink, but they found it and supposedly worked on it. Then I took my snowblower in - it wouldn't start. Again - two weeks later I went to check on it and it didn't look like anything was removed so they could check. They just said it would cost more to fix it than to repair it. They said some critter had gotten in and chewed things. So, a few months later and my lawnmower wouldn't start (exact same issue the snowblower had). I already was suspicious of these guys, so I went with someone else. I mentioned my snowblower (long gone by now) and he said there just isn't that much on a snowblower that could be damaged by a small animal, especially considering the automatic start still turned the engine over. Turns out, it was bad gasoline. Never going back there - obviously never for repairs, but they lost my business for the hardware store too. Home Depot is just around the corner. read more

For nearly 30 years I have been going to Robinson's for parts and material for every imaginable home and garden project (plus many fasteners to keep my motorcycles in one piece). They have been through many changes over that time, with a distinct trend to improving their stock and organization. As with any such store, there are variations in staff knowledge and availability, but recently it seems there is always someone pointing me the right way. I see negative reviews for power equipment repairs. I have had window screens made up and a reel-type push mower sharpened, both satisfactory experiences. I have asked questions about snow blower and power mower problems, but never had any service done. I do not get the feeling that is their strongest suit. read more

This spring I had Robinson's hardware tune-up my riding lawn mower. The experience was terrible. To be brief, they had it in their shop for many weeks and ended -up charging me much more than I expected. However, that's not why I'm writing this review. What really irritated me was that I wrote the owner and explained my concerns and complaints in detail. I mentioned that I had shopped his store for many years and preferred to buy from local businesses instead of the big box stores. I never received a call or a note from anyone at Robinson's. I expected that the owner would read my complaint and ask someone to get back to me but I was wrong. I now know that Robinson's doesn't value long-standing customers. Needed shelves for my mom's place. She said Why don't we try Robinson's, and I said Don't be ridiculous, we're going to a real home improvement center like Lowe's or Home Depot. I don't have to tell you the middle of the story. Hours and hours of driving around Albany. Despair over our youth working at places like Lowe's and Home Depot. Finally I decided Fine, we'll try Robinson's. Guess what, they had exactly what we needed, and were knowledgeable and helpful. The guy even carried the shelves up to the cash register for us. My husband and I ALWAYS use this local business. They are helpful, friendly and courteous. They always call you by name when you come into their hardware store and make you feel right at home!
