The 3 stars is being generous here. If you've been to one Walmart, you've been to them all. Some are passable and some are utterly putrid. This one ranks about in the middle, meaning there are both better and worse locations than this one. One positive is that the store was decently stocked. Another positive was that there was actually one friendly employee - imagine that, a 'friendly' employee. Not that this employee was friendly to me, but I overheard an interaction with a customer near me and I was impressed this employee was decent. Of course the rest of the employees here weren't impressive and were the usual. Some visibly show that they just don't care. Regardless, it's the hiring managers' fault. There were a few long lines at checkout with few very cashiers - you know the drill. The self checkouts moved a little faster, but those with full carts tied those up. The parking lot is decently sized with more than enough spots - the front spots are the most busy since a lot of people fear walking a few extra feet. For peace and peace of mind, plenty of spots the more rear to the lot you go. This Walmart is okay. Been to better and been to plenty worse than this. If this is your local location and/or you're in the area, you can do a lot worse than this. read more

I hit up this Walmart in search of Trout Lures, Armor-All, and something to Get My Munch On with, and I'm happy to report that all objectives were met in a timely manner.    As it happens I was able to get in and out pretty quickly in order to return to the Mighty Ramapo River where my Fishing Adventures continued without any issues. Plus there were no empty stomach growlings from that point on all thanks to this Store and the fine folks at Jack Links Beef Jerky. If I were Sasquatch I'd come outta seclusion too for one of these delicious meat treats.    In the future I'll most definitely stop in here again whenever the need arises for any Walmart type necessities are required. On 6/18 at 1130am I was shopping at the Riverdale, NJ location & was struck by a worker driving a fork lift in the aisle. It struck me from behind so I didn't see it coming and hit my shoulder and back. I was immediately upset because I have a previous injury there and was in pain. Luckily my young son was fine. The worker instead of offering any sort of support told me she also gets pain. Not sure how that helps. She said she couldn't see me while she was using the vehicle but then maybe she shouldn't be driving the vehicle. I asked to speak with a manager. No one came. Instead a person that doesn't work at Walmart told the worker who struck me to leave the scene and the worker listened and left. I was not offered any support, Medical attention or an offer to write an incident report. I am still in pain. I'm embarrassed. I left immediately following this incident. I called the store and there was no answer. When I spoke to someone from the store I was told everyone that could help me out was busy. This incident has been reported to cooperate but I feel compelled to warn others. Do not shop here. read more

I went to buy shaving cream which was locked behind the glass and getting it was a project which is why I'm done shopping at Walmart all together. I asked the guy with the vest on for the key, and he said he didn't have it and thought the girl who had it was on break, then went back to working, and he didn't do anything until I threw my hands up in the air, like, ok I guess I have to wait till she's off-break until I get shaving cream then he got someone with the key. Also, another reason is why are employees stationed at the door checking receipts? It's not legally allowed and don't give me or anyone else an issue if we text the receipt to ourselves and I say I left my phone in the car. You want people to have to wait to show their receipts then make it a membership store like Costco does and that can be part of your terms. I'm done with Walmart. read more

This is probably the best Walmart to visit in the area. Any time I've visited, the store is organized and clean. Everything is easy to find and you can usually score some great clearance deals for clothing. While it does have a smaller selection than other Walmart stores, it's perfect for grab and go items. read more

Mind boggling. They put in self check outs in place of cashiers so they can save money on payroll. Next they cut staffing and have associates cover multiple departments to save money on payroll. Followed by the obvious increase in theft because of self check out/decreased floor staffing. So their genius solution is to lock up merchandise because of the high theft and force an understaffed floor to constantly tend to customers asking for locked items. THEN, the icing on the cake is waiting 15+ minutes trying to find an associate with a key since the glass cases aren't equipped with call buttons, only to be told you and the item you selected will be escorted to the front of the store so you can pay for it on the spot. Am I buying something or being taken in for questioning? I had a cart full of other merchandise and was mid-shop. An item of less than $10 in value? I told the associate no thanks, put it back, keep it. I purchased the exact item at another retailer two hours later, not under lock and key. Congratulations on making your stores completely unshoppable, Walmart! Amazon is nailing your coffin shut as I type this. read more

I prefer to go to Walmart to purchase dog food and paper products. Today I decided to also pick up allergy medicine. They are located in the pharmacy department and locked up on the shelf. I asked the pharmacist to unlock it so I can get my Zyrtec. He told me I had to go to customer service. I walked over to customer service and was told somebody else already requested a manager and somebody is there. I ran back over for fear of missing the manager, to keep the cabinet open only to discover another gentleman was standing there, waiting as well. after five minute wait I decided to leave. Walked back over to customer service. They saw me coming and over the PA asked a manager to go to the pharmacy department. I told them they lost their shot. I waited long enough. Why is the pharmacy not holding the key to allergy medication's that are in the pharmacy department, poor service, poor organization, and lack of enthusiasm by the employees. read more

I had to purchase over the counter medication that is in a locked cabinet. I understand they are trying to prevent stealing, however, when you ring the buzzer for someone to come & unlock it, no one shows up for 10-15 minutes or more. I waiting over 20 minutes until some one showed up. Another time, I was told the only person who has a key to the lock was on her break. Seriously, in a store this large, only 1 person has a key. I don't normally write reviews but we have had multiple terrible experiences here that I need to share so that change is made. Twice now we have waited by the locked section for formula for our baby boy. Ringing for someone to come unlock the formula door for us has resulted in zero assistance. No one comes. After waiting about 15 minutes for someone to unlock the door to the formula I went and looked for someone to come help me. She did not understand what I was saying and was not able to assist. Unacceptable. Yesterday my husband decided to try again, and went and waited at least 10-15 minutes by the formula for someone to unlock it. Again, no one came. He had to leave store and go somewhere else to find formula to feed our baby. Despicable and unacceptable especially at such a well known public family-owned business. I only shop at Walmart when I can't get items I need at other stores. Their prices are reasonable and have variety. It's the customer service that lacks, especially communication. One time, I waited 20 minutes just to get help. I asked 4 different associates and not one could tell me who was coming to help, only to have the original first guy comes and assist. On this particular visit, I came for baby water. The three on the shelf were defective. Why sell defective products?? I looked for help and found the store manager. Asking for help she nodded and I waited at the department. I thought she was coming, so I checked and she was texting. I waited longer and watched her disappeared on her merry way. Didn't know if she was helping or was help on the way. I started looking for another associate and found an end stand of water. At least 2- 3 cases of damaged gallons to sell. I managed to find 4 good ones. I made my way to checkout and found Lucy, the manager. I made my way to her so I can tell her I found what I needed. Only for her to ask if help ever came and then she was ANNOYED that I found it on the end stand. Her response "FINE!" Really, from a manager. Now I know where the lack of communication comes from. The cashier, Debbie, was pleasant though. She was efficient and we made small talk about my baby. She made my day a little bit better. read more

I drive 40 minutes just to go to this particular Wal Mart. As compared to those around where I live, it is clean and well-stocked. I've never had an issue finding what I need and the store is laid out in an intuitive way. Staff is beyond courteous and helpful based on my experiences. Checkout lines can take some time, which is why I am docking one star. Plan accordingly for this, because if you're after an in-and-out shopping experience, that's hard to achieve here. However, I believe this can be said for most Wal Mart locations. However, this isn't a dealbreaker for me given the cleanliness and helpful staff. And away I go. Located a quarter mile off of Route 23 behind a Best Buy and a Michaels. It is a pain in the rear to get to. The u-turn for this location is a good mile a way if god forbid you are going south on 23. If it was a better location it would go up to a 3 to a 3 and a half stars. Once inside, the store is laid out logically with a subway and an annie's pretzels inside as well as an eyeglass store and a nail salon. Have yet to venture in any of those pop-up shops yet. I ordered something online for curbside pickup. So I park in the curbside pickup area and call the number that they tell you to call. Nobody answers after 7 times so I had to walk in the store and go all the way into the back to the pick up area. Wait for about 10 minutes for an associate to show up. When you visit a department store like Walmart, you have the expectation that you will be lost in the hustle and bustle of the large crowds; that you will be treated like just another body in line that the staff is trying to move along. I visited the Riverdale Walmart on Rt. 23 in September of 2018 and was extremely happy with my experience there -- to the point that I felt obligated to write a review highlighting some of the exceptional employees who took the time to help me resolve an issue I was having. Both Gretchen, a member of the customer service team, and Michael, the manger who worked with us, were extremely helpful and demonstrated professionalism and the true "care" that Walmart consistently promotes. A few months earlier, I had purchased a rather expensive entertainment center online that was apparently mislabeled by Walmart.com. After waiting quite a long time for the item to arrive, I was informed that it was labeled in error and I would receive a merchandise credit to make up the difference in price. We were unable to apply the code online for some reason, so I stopped by a local store to see if they could help me. The entire customer service team was, at first, confused by what the credit was. Rather than brushing it off as an issue to be handled by Walmart.com, they took the time to look into the issue and sort out the error. I really appreciated the demeanor of the staff. As someone who worked in retail when I was younger, I can tell you that this is how customer care should be handled. read more

I ordered a TV from walmart.com on "Black Friday" and the TV arrived broken today. I drove 25 minutes to the nearest Walmart, in Riverdale NJ. I thought it would be a quick "even exchange". Instead, I sat around waiting for a manager for 15 minutes. When the manager, Sasha, appeared, she told me that she couldn't take the TV back because it was purchased on "dot com" and she "didn't want HER store to take the loss". I guess customer service doesn't matter any more, to this store manager. I immediately cancelled my walmart plus account immediately, and rather than walk away with a replacement, I have to box it up an take it to the post office to ship back, wait until it is received before a replacement will ship out. It can be a hit or miss of what they have or don't have in stock. Lately, they had nothing. All the milk, drinks and certain foods were completely empty. It was big gaps of foods and supplies missing like they forgot to restock this. I thought it was a one time thing but I had went on multiple occasion, on different times of days and still vacant. I will say the employees are nice. Their shopping carts are the worst of the worst. Basically, NONE of them work. Their wheels make it very hard to steer, they are rusty, old and gross. I was accused of shoplifting at this location, multiple times, the managers are trash and although the cashiers have always been helpful when they actually have enough staffed on register, most of the time I have to bag my own things & have my time wasted while I'm profiled as a thief although I've never been convicted of a crime in my life. The staff on the floor walk around doing nothing with lines 10 deep. I don't go to this location except if it's absolutely necessary. The amount of disrespect & attitude I've gotten is insane. We were searching for a bike for our daughter, most places are completely sold out due to Covid. We went to the Riverdale NJ location, as the website said that they had 6 bikes in inventory- so we thought it was worth the trip! We ran into a store associate- MARY! She was absolutely AMAZING! Went above and beyond- contacted us when the bike we were looking for came in, and then even was able to location a few more items that I needed for my parents. She was an absolute pleasure and WOW! Talk about customer service! I cannot even explain the sheer pleasure it was to deal with her and hope amazingly helpful she was.
