Let me start by clarifying that I'm technically giving 2.5 stars, though obviously yelp doesn't do half ratings. I was initially giving 3 stars but I've had some reconsiderations since my last visit. This location has always felt kinda of dingy to me. It's smaller that most other Walmarts I've been to, and thus isles feel a little cramped. I am generally able to find what I need , but it is still a limited selection compared to the bigger stores. It does the bare minimum as a Walmart but I do not favor this place that much. They do not carry produce whatsoever, only stock pre packaged, boxed and canned foods. (Which isn't good for families in the area) I feel I spend too much time whenever I'm here and I just can't vibe with it. The sketch feel and overall subpar atmosphere is just not for me. If there was less development in the area I'd be inclined to avoid it altogether. read more

Well, I've never thought to do a write-up for a chain of stores, especially a well known giant like Walmart, but I feel there's a need for such. Like most Walmart businesses, one is greeted pleasantly when entering and wished a warm farewell in the same manner when venturing toward the parking lot with purchased goods in hand. Additionally, one can find numerous "unnecessary" desires, but... and there's almost always a but - just like most stores nowadays, there are more check out lanes than employees able to assist. And the self checks are not all easy, speedy, pleasurable. One wrong swipe or encased item can take that thought "saved time" a joke unworthy of a laugh, because it takes several minutes to find someone to help delete, unlock, or validate an age for the purchase to be completed. If you have the patience, shop at any Walmart for better bargains; however, if you are in a hurry... I'd suggest holding off your trip or sending someone who has time on their hands to spare. read more

The Wal-Mart has all of your essentials! Well, except for fresh fruit and vegetables.

I came in for some essentials such as tampons, wipes, toothpaste, etc around 1:30-2PM. The aisles were extremely cramped, the selection was terrible, and even the tampons were $2 more than normal. Half of the store was blocked off for online order racks, as well as most of the aisles blocked by stocking & online order carts. I left empty handed because I couldn't find half the items I was looking for. At this point just close the store to the public and make it online-order only, because being inside that store was miserable. read more

Came here in a rush before it closes at 11pm. I got here at 10:54pm, the door is locked and an older Walmart employee wearing a mask made a hand gesture signaling that they are closed. With a shocked look on my face, I pulled out my phone and showed him the time through the window saying it's 10:55pm and he came to the door to unlock it to tell me that he was told that they are closed. I pointed to the hours on the door saying they are open till 11pm and it's only 10:55pm, he said sorry we're closed. I told him that's illegal and he replied "call the cops then" . At this point I'm enraged because I literally left my house in a rush to get here before they closed, I ran from my car to the door, my heart was racing to make it before they close at 11pm as their company says, only to be told by one of their lousy employees that they're closed at 10:55pm and giving me a snarky remark to call the cops . I replied back "your kidding me" he said "what?" I repeated my self and he kept saying "what?" As if HES the one the can't hear ME, when in reality I was having a hard time hearing HIM cuz he sounded muffled through his mask. So I went to my car and I pulled up in front and tried to get him to come back so I can ask him what his name was and if I could speak to his manager, he made a hand gesture that he was not coming back, so I started knocking on the door and he walked the other way talking to another employee, so I took a picture of him and the hours on the door, hopefully this review gets seen by his supervisors and I'm sure they're gonna pull out the video footage to verify. I'm giving this Walmart 1 star because I can't give it a zero! I went back because I taught I misplaced an item I bought . I guess it was the manager I talked too? He didn't identify himself. I showed him the receipt to show proof I bought the item, by the way I spent 130 dollars that day . The item in Question was 9 bucks he told me there was nothing he could do , that wasn't the problem it's the way he responded talked to me like I was a criminal or a scammer . This was a Monday after Veterans day weekend I'm saying this because I'm a VET who served in Iraq also I'm a first responder. When I told him I'm never shopping at Walmart anymore his response was negative like letting me know he didn't care if I shopped at Walmart again. I believe that is the worst kind of customer service!!!!! By the way I have misplaced some items a couple of times when I shopped at TARGET and when I went back with proof they had no issue replacing those items. As far as all the Walmarts in the area go, this is my absolute least favorite of the bunch. Everything is always a complete mess here. Not only are things thrown here & there with no order at all but things are just pretty gross. Like the makeup section? Ew. I don't think I could ever bring myself to buy makeup here even in a pinch when everyone tests every single nail polish & lipstick out on the displays. What's wrong with people!? They are out of stock of so many of items here, too. However they do have a good clearance section. The people at this Walmart could fill the pages of a PeopleofWalmart calendar with great ease and they have to be some of the most self involved shoppers ever....don't pay any attention to anyone around them. Parking is an absolute nightmare but I've found if you park on the side of the store, you can get a pretty close spot and [mostly] avoid the most horrible drivers on the planet. I feel kind of bad for this Walmart because it's a victim to it's clientele. However it's as if they've given up. They think eh...it's all gone to heck anyways, so why even try!? Never ever ever have your tires serviced here!!!! They damaged our rims and will not compensate us for the full damage costing $600!!! I sent videos, photos, and it still wasn't enough!!! They don't believe me!!! I worked with their claims department who are dreadful, they don't care about your problems, and they truly think everyone is scamming them and lying to them. Jeremy Rasmussen and manager, was purely evil and didn't care what had happened to us. Stayed silent on the line when speaking to him and didn't give two rats about us and the damage our car sustained. This car is babied by my husband and I and we're super careful with this car, and now our rims are damaged!!! We usually take it to discount tires, but decided to take it to Walmart as it was less expensive, lesson learned!! I had an African American gentleman service the car who was STONED out of his damn mind where he could barely speak to us, could barely understand him. This is who is working on your cars people. Never ever again am I taking my car here. For such a huge company you'd think they would be more remorseful for people in these situations but reality comes down to it.... they don't care about you at all unless you take them to court. read more

I have been here at many different times of day/days of the week, and somehow it's ALWAYS super crowded. Like most Walmarts, even when the checkouts are super packed, they only have like one or two human cashiers open in addition to the self checkouts. So if you're buying anything that will require a cashier (alcohol, cigarettes, anything else "behind the counter"), just anticipate that it's going to take quite a long time to check out. I had a mostly positive experience during three visited over three days. A woman whose name I didn't catch walked me clear across the store, waited for me to pick the item I was looking for (it wasn't there, took all of 30 seconds) the walked me to the section where the surge protectors are. There was a nearly five minute wait at the pickup counter on my third trip (I was the only one in line) but I was attended to immediately on my first trip. This Walmart is a OK, nothing too special, just that its right by my house. Sometimes lines get too long, I never understand why they would have about 25 registers and most of the time only have about 2-3 opened ones. What is the purpose of that. Not only at Walmart you see this, most retail stores have this issue. I guest the best time to come here is either early morning or late afternoon. Never attempt coming here between 2-6pm its the worst of the worst. The customer service staff by the front door are the nicest members of your staff. Don't bother with the people stocking the shelves, they are very rude if you happen to ask for questions regarding their inventory. All in all, I'll still be coming here, but I will be sure to find everything on my own. read more

Just moved to Palatine from Crystal Lake. This store has no produce or deli, so you can't order it from Walmart Grocery pickup. It doesn't tell you that on the app. The customer service is terrible. This Walmart is the best and great place to shop for every day essentials. They have so decent prices and you can save a lot here compared to other stores around. They have so huge variety and selections of produce. They have fresh meats like chicken, beef, pork, and even seafood. They also up to date with their items from snack, breads, dairies, and others. They secure that the items they are selling are not expired. Even imported or international produce and items are available at their store. You can easily find all things you are looking for because their store is organized, clean, well-sorted, and bright. They have signs and labels in their different store sections, so that all of their customers can see where they can get all the things and stuff they need so quickly. Their place is convenient, easy to find, and they are near also to other well-known place in the city. They also have parking lots for you to easily park and take your time doing shopping inside. Very amazing store! Their employees are so nice and helpful, they know how to treat all of their customers so well, they are so professional and decent, they will accommodate you once you entered their store and until you are finished. You will be comfortable all the times you visit and shop there because all of them are so knowledgeable and their location has a good ambiance. Highly recommend this Walmart especially to those people looking for such a great customer service and wonderful experience. This store is perfect for big families. I used to get my prescriptions filled at the Walmart Pharmacy in Elgin were I was treated with kindness. Moved to Palatine at the beginning of December, so I brought my prescriptions to this location. Dropped the Rx's off and 3 days later I hadn't received a call that they were ready for pick up, so I called them. Was told they were ready the same day I dropped them off. When I asked why I didn't get an automated phone call alerting me when the medications were ready like the Elgin location did, I was told they don't do that. The next month I needed 5 refills, I ordered them online, indicating what day and time I would be in to pick them up, actually going 3 hours later than the pick up time I indicated. The woman working the counter told me I had 4 meds for pick up. I told her no that there were 5 meds. She then proceeded to argue with me saying there were only 4, ignoring my plea's to go check my records. Finally after 10 minutes of arguing with her, the pharmacist came over and asked what the problem was. He asked me to give him a minute to check on it and came back apologizing that the 5th med was overlooked and he would fill it immediately. The woman who argued with me didn't even apologize. Even though I am paying more, I've since moved all my meds to Walgreens. The extra cost is worth the professionalism and respect I get there. read more

The store itself is like any other Walmart However, WORST customer service in their Vision Center. I haven't had a vision exam in a few years and heard it was cheapest at Walmart. To make a long story short I went for my appointment and was pretty much told it was too big of an inconvenience to add insurance at the time of the visit. Even though I did call ahead of the appointment to tell them I had insurance but the lady on the phone didn't ask for a member ID or anything she just said to bring my card with at the appointment. Not only was it too big of an inconvenience but I got yelled at by Nagheet for not telling them on the first phone call I made. This visit just reinforced my distaste for Walmart. I've been shopping here since 1989, when I first moved back to Palatine! This Walmart is in a great location--close to home and close to a lot of great restaurants, stores and Delta Sonic car wash(all places I hit when running my errands almost every week)! I've usually found whatever I've needed for my home, here, whether it's food, coffee, pop, appliances, car care products, cleaning products, toiletries, DVDs--you name it! I usually end up buying most of my household supplies here first, vs. Target! The employees here have been nice and helpful throughout the decades I've shopped here, too! Never had a bad shopping experience here either--which is why I shop at this particular Walmart location the most and probably why it's packed every time I shop here! Hell on Earth. That's what my Thursday evening stop here felt like. I needed an air compressor and some sharpies at an hour that wasn't conducive to patronizing my more preferred usual retail suspects. Merchandise was in total disarray, to the point of a lot of the aisles looking like actual dumps. Crap looks like it's dripping from displays, the only non-register employees you'll see are uniform-less migrant workers who seem to be so used to being treated like second class under-citizens that they don't even dare look you in the eye as they cart giant waste-bins full of random product through the store, and no matter the time of day/evening or section of the store, there will always be the sound of a crying baby. Then, when you're finally ready to check out, the ratio of customers to cashiers is about 76466478 to 1, but there's no point in bothering to try the self checkout as the family of 5 purchasing about a million different tiny sized convenience items like tic tacs and Hot Wheels decides that it's totally kosher to buy $80+ dollars worth of groceries in all singles. You're paying w/ singles? Fine, no bigs. But the self check out aisles are not the place to dispose of your gross of Lincolns. Lastly, the parking lot. I've never seen a larger collection of cars that were driven and parked so poorly. You're lucky to get out of here alive. To Hell and back, and never going back again. read more

The merchandise at this Wal-Mart is actually well-organized and signed properly. I'd worked retail for 10+ years, and that isn't always the case in many places. Also, working in retail, I learned this fascinating fact about Wal-Mart: They're the #1 clothing retailer in the USA. Go figure. I never actually shopped Wal-Mart for clothes in the past unless I was desperate, but I've picked up a few good things here and there for insanely low prices (a $3 t-shirt, $17 jeans that are actually LONG ENOUGH for my 5'10" frame and don't taper at the bottom). Their sizing can be weird, though; a 2XL t-shirt was SKIN TIGHT on me, and I normally wear a L or XL. The biggest complaint I have is that they never seem to have enough cashiers to accommodate the number of customers checking out. When I worked in retail (2 years ago), we had a 60 second "rule" where we needed to call for backup if someone was waiting for 60 seconds. DEFINITELY not at Wal-Mart! I have had really friendly cashiers, though; the last one I had started up a conversation with me, and not in a fake way. That was nice. Oh, my second complaint: They've had this guy sitting on a stool by the "exit" door who solicits money for a charity. He is NOT friendly and encountering him made me downright uncomfortable. You can tell he doesn't like sitting there and he doesn't seem to be a happy guy. I don't respond well to collection solicitation, especially if someone is staring me down; I'd rather give on my own via a container sitting mutely at a register, or via a cashier who isn't pushing it. That won't deter me from shopping there in the future. Actually, I'm on my way now to pick up something I ordered "site to store," which is a FABULOUS addition Wal-Mart has made. I was trying to buy some socks here, and there was only one package left. However, the package had been torn apart, and then taped back together (what?). I asked a store employee if they had any more and without even looking at the package closely said nope, that's it. Very unhelpful. While they offer produce, it's overpriced and not fresh at all. The fruits look so sad on the shelf! Some other things are also very overpriced, and of poor quality, such as their shower totes. read more

Yeah, I feel twinges of guilt when I think of the way they treat them employees but it's the only place I can get things to fit my kid at a reasonable price. I like cheap. I like inexpensive. And I'll go wherever I have to to find the best price. This location isn't really new, maybe 3 or 4 years old, and hasn't gotten crapped up or seedy yet. Decent selection of goods. My favorite store for getting my fruit of the loom mens & boys t's, and fat man shirts for hubby. There is one thing that irritates me, and that is the blue-haired ladies hawking Jesus in various departments. Why does management allow these women to harass people? I don't want anyone approaching my child with pamphlets on the second coming. Like the one today...she stuck her tract under my nose and I said no thanks and ran as she made a beeline toward my kid. This store has everything. The only reason I won't give 5 stars is because when I went to this store with my sister in law who would be turning 21 the next day we were denied alcohol purchases. Even though I am of age. It was so weird that anyone accompanying me had to have a 21 and older id even if they are not purchasing the alcohol. I am late for my appointment for an oil change. I run in the store, get the big 5 quart oil can. There is no line at the register! Yes! As I am already out the door I hear a guy yelling - Can I see your receipt?! Whaaat??? So you think i would take the oil and run from the store? So embarrassing & so unnecessary. Went to get my tires changed here. They did some damage to my wheel. The worst part is that they didn't even tell me. They were dishonest and tried to pull a fast one on me. But I am very observant and noticed it. Yes, they did end up paying for my wheel repair but to be honest it was a hassle. Not ONCE did I get an apology. They didn't do anything beyond paying for my repair. I'm the one who had to go out and get it fixed and drive around wasting my time for something they did wrong. They didn't even offer 1-an apology 2-a refund for the work (at least do that). I'm happy they paid for it but I'm most upset about their dishonestly. I took my car in, with a flat tire on Thanksgiving because the person on the phone said they'd be able to change it. Got to the tire service, they had palates of big screen TVs strewn across the tire changing station. Was brushed away immediately. I've never entered this Walmart without leaving and hoping that the store gets burned to the ground, leaving anything else to rebuild in its place. My wife had a small issue today, she left a bag behind at the register tonight with our dinner in that bag. She drove home discovered one of two store bags was missing. So she called the store, the operator who barley spoke English rubbed her the wrong way. Now she's on the phone with a very nice young lady who was the store manager. Freida was her name, was very professional, she explained she would talk with the phone operator to work on his phone skills, and also speak with the register person to make sure clients get all their bags while checking out. Freida apologized overand over, and gave my wife a small gift for the inconvenience which she really did not have to do. I just wanted all of you to know, yes there is customer service at this Walmart, and I wish Freida and all her staff Happy Holidays! She made my day. read more

This place is by far the worst place to shop in Palatine. I agree with the majority of reviews - the customer service is the worst and the pricing is constantly off. Unfortunately, due to the poor customer service, they couldn't care less if their pricing is off and they have to call in the troops if you want them to figure it out. I have bought things that were on clearance one day, I'll go back after a day or two to grab a couple more and they are full price again. My aunt was trying to buy something on clearance and it rang up the clearance price, but the cashier started arguing with her that she couldn't have it for that price - the manager had to finally come over and tell the cashier to sell it to her. If I use coupons, I almost always get hassled and need a manager - none of the coupons seem to just scan anymore - they have to review almost all of them and enter them manually. Which takes forever because if you get too good of a deal, the cashiers will argue with you - even though you are right. I've also had multiple experiences where I needed help loading stuff and was left to do it on my own. This happened on my most recent trip there and is what caused me to write this review. I'm always told someone will be there to help, but no one ever comes or they are helping someone else. If that is the case, I have to wait 20 mins or more in the parking lot for someone to finally make time to help me. Who has time for that? So, in order for me and this Walmart to get along, I can only see you like family I don't like - just when I have to. And I'm NEVER EVER going to buy anything there that I can't carry myself!
