It is true that anything you can find here at Walmart will be cheaper than the same item at the grocery store. However, this parking lot is a nightmare, the lines are always really long, and some of the staff are not very nice. I got to the Target across the street. Ok so not many people think going to Walmart while on vacation as a uber cool activity to engage in....I however, have found the opposite to be true, and here are the examples of why I heart Walmart Super centers on vacation: 1. Stupid airline regulations against any liquid item over 3-5 oz....my much needed hairspray, suntan lotion, and facial cream ends up either in the trash or I have to pay $25-30 to put that into check-in. 2. I'm cheap, and hate paying $10 bucks for a bottle of water, when I can get a case of 24 for $6.99 3. I get hungry about a zillion times a day, and need to have muchies on hand, walmart sells me munchies at a fraction of the local resort price 4. Last minute wedding emergencies: I find myself running to walmart for: Bobby pins, safety pins, tape, the tide pen, tissues (for the groom cuz he just found out what he got himself into) and lots and lots of hairspray (a recent bride-zilla emergency that Walmart helped me solve) 5. Souveniors for family and friends - there is usually a location specific food section and gift section, where walmart sells you the same stuff you see, "local artists" peddling on the street for a fraction of the cost..... 6. Lots and Lots of Icecream - No explanation needed. 7. When mother nature tries to Fork with my vacation, I can run here to grab some much needed lady thangs. 8. In general I try NOT to patronize Walmart. They treat their employees like junk and don't have any kind of organic options for simple things like milk. WHen traveling in Hawaii, all moral bets are off. This place right here should be your first and last stop every time you fly into Kahului. This is your one and only source of cheap clothing (even touristy maui shirts) beer, wine, soda, chips, sunscreen, swimsuits, cheap sunglasses, towels, etc. You can also buy some cheap shopping bags for local shopping (as plastic bags aren't allowed on the island). If you don't mind that your souvenirs are made in China this is a good stop for those too because it's all downhill price-wise after this pitstop people. It's pretty great because you can also make this your last stop and return all of the stuff that you bought on your way in (see above) but didn't use. Last week we returned unopened soda and then bought our one year old a little toy surprise for the flight home. As soon as I got off the plan from Oahu to Maui, we hopped into our rental car and to this Walmart, which is really close to the airport. Unlike Oahu which is riddled with ABC convenience stores, Maui is a little lacking in that. We stocked up on water, chips, and other random things we needed to buy. It was very, very early in the morning, so it wasn't crowded. On Maui, they don't provide bags so just FYI! This isn't a special Walmart or anything, it's just a good place to get much needed supplies that you might pay through the nose for somewhere else on the island. read more

I'm not normally a fan of Walmart and really avoid it like the plague on the mainland, but when you're on Maui, it really is a convenient place to shop for random souvenirs, snorkeling equipment, sunblock, cooler, toothbrushes, etc. when you don't want to buy things in bulk at Costco nearby. We bought all of the above, ended up going there twice during our trip just to buy some hats for ourselves as well. Service was actually decent here, with lines not being insanely slow, like they are in SoCal and customer service people being friendly for the most part. One time we were charged twice for the same item and that took like 5 minutes to resolve the issue and get us our $1.17 back. Other than that, great store for just stuff you need. read more

I agree that I normally don't patronize WM, but in Hawaii, well, there's a good reason to shop here. After flying in, the best travel advise I received was to stop by here on our way to W. Maui. Most groceries are reasonably priced. It's also a great place to pick up last minute stuff like sublock or toiletry items you have have forgotten. I refuse to pay an arm and a leg for essentials like water, milk, chips or other snacks, so I'm glad we stocked up before heading to Kaanapali. Let's not forget the Mai Tai mix! This is a great alternative to Costco, another smart choice. PLEASE READ: BRING YOUR REUSABLE BAGS FROM HOME. Since January of 2011, stores do NOT provide plastic bags. You have to either purchase them, or bring your own. W-M's reusable bags are 50 cents each, still cheap though. read more

What can I say? This is the go-to place for almost everything, at great prices! But if customer service is what you're looking for, you get what you pay for! Some of their associates seem like they don't like customers. Understandable, as retail customers can be demanding. However, when you ask an associate, very politely, if they can check if they have something in the back and they keep asking you if you'd rather buy something else, something is wrong! If I wanted to buy something else, I wouldn't have asked you if you could check! Too bad Kmart didn't have a comparable item. Can't wait until Target opens. Much better place to shop. read more

PROS: 1. A huge Hawaii-related souvenir section carrying a large quantity of gift items at low Walmart prices. 2. The prices are pretty comparable to the mainland stores. There were items that were shockingly high like...$5.00 for a loaf of bread?! 3. The store set-up was similar to other Walmart stores so finding items was not too bad. 4. Our cashier was awesome. She took her time to tell us about some of the local places to eat. She was the only one that was helpful (see below comment). CONS: 1. Parking was tight probably due to the high volume of customers. They should expand their parking lot like what Target did next door. 2. The employees were made up of locals obviously. Half looked like they hated their jobs. They barely respond to any requests. The other half was made up of Filipino immigrants. No knocks on them but it was difficult to understand their accents (and I am an Asian myself). read more

First of all, how is it no one has reviewed this lovely Walmart? I am not usually a fan of Walmart at all. But my boyfriend asked if we could stop because they might have what I call "aqua sox" - something we needed since we kept climbing on rocks and ruining our flip flops (aka slippers). Oh yes, they had the socks we were looking for - and mine were only about $5 because I'm small and fit into children's shoes. His were $7 for the big boy sizes. What else does Walmart on Maui have? Oh! Swim suits! Folks, I bought a one piece for $3. THREE DOLLARS. And, I bought 2 "tank-kinis" (covers your "tank") which are mix and match and so cute, and those were $24 each. Souvenirs! They have a whole aisle of macademia items, chocolate covered stuff, you name it. And Kona coffee. For $5/ a bag. And, they have an entire section for other souvenirs - magnets, plates, stationery, pens, little plants, lotions, lip balms, shirts, post cards, jewelry, you name it and they have it. Now, I know going shopping at the Walmart is probably not as "sexy" or "exotic" as you'd like, and you probably don't really want to admit that these awesome gifts all came from a big box store, either. Much cooler if they came from a roadside shack, hula dancer who moonlights as a stationery maker, or from some boutique in Whaler's village. You don't have to give up your souvenir secrets. I have two bones to pick with you: 1) you sell children's toys that contain lead (says so right on the package) and management brushed it off like no big deal. 2) got my oil changed and oil cap was not put on correctly. Normally, I try to avoid Walmart like the plague, but there's something about the Maui Walmart. It has so much good stuff. It's a great place to pick up souvenirs and tons of locals food and decor. I couldn't get over their selection of bark cloth the first time I went there and the great price. I was use to paying $30 per yard back home so finding it for $6 a yard was a real steal. I bought so much I filled up a whole suitcase. I make sure to hit this place every time we go to Maui. It's on our list of places we hit right after we land. Usually our first and last stop on the island (right by the airport). We get beer, soda, water, chips, lotion and other stuff for our hotel room on our way from the airport. On the way home we stop to get the best prices on chocolates, coffee, etc. Shame there aren't groceries as the local chains are highway robbery for prices (even for Hawaii). Walmart, is well, Walmart. Cheap prices on almost anything you could need. But, you often get what you pay for, so check before you buy. I do like the home and garden section for fresh veggie plants in plants in spring, and putting soil. The furniture we bought there only lasted one season. :( Automotive can have deals, but check to see what is included and what's extra. They will get you with the extra fees like tire disposal, rotation, alignment, etc.... Since the remodel the frozen and boxed/canned goods are much better section for regular kinds, or generic brands. Still not much organic, but great prices on what they do get. read more

By far the BEST Walmart!!! Super friendly and happy workers. But watch out for that one grouchy lady they call "Smiley". She's anything but smiley. I once had to report her to management for making a rude comment towards me and my kids. Shelves are moderately stocked. If an item is not in stock, it usually is within the following week. I like how its not crowded with tons of tourists like here in Oahu. More of the local people and much more inviting. =) This was my favorite store to go to when I was living on Maui. You would see everyone you know there. My sister and I would always make this our stop if we were out in the evening. They are really good on price matching. Went to Walmart Vision Center (WVC) about 4:30pm on Saturday evening 10/22/16 expecting - honestly - a circus/madhouse/shit show... as is my expectation every time I enter a Walmart, for any reason. I was SO WRONG!! Was immediately helped by Licensed Optometrist Tami J. and certified Optometrist visiting from Oahu. (Kirstie, Kristi?? I feel like a JERK for not remembering your name, b/c your service was so excellent!!!!!) Customer service was EXCELLENT! Seriously, beyond excellent. WVC professionals helped me w/ every question I had, and spent so much time helping me that I honestly felt like Beyoncé! As tourists, we stopped at Wal-Mart on our way to the airport because we heard they should have a good selection of Hawaiian shirts. They actually had a large selection of Hawaiian shirts from small kid sizes through adult sizes. We had looked all over Maui for the larger Youth sized shirts and couldn't find any under $40, but this Wal-Mart had a good selection in the $12-$15 range! Score! I can't imagine spending $40 on a kitschy shirt that my kid will grow out of in a year or two! There was also a decent souvenir section and a decent local/touristy food section. We came home with some tropical pancake mixes and powdered coconut syrup that we hadn't seen anywhere else! I knew by reviews to take my own shopping bag, and I think that it's a wonderful idea that they quit using plastic bags! You can get the reusable shopping bags for $0.50 a bag there if you forget your own. read more

Parking here is horrible. People will cut you off or steal parking spots you've been waiting for. We went in to get souvenirs and they ran out of alot of sizes and didn't have much selections. We did what we could and they no longer have bags, now you have to pay. Since I'm from California this is nothing new. Except to pay for a bag its 53 cents where in California its 10 cents. But I didn't hesitate. I like the fact that the bags here have locations of all the walmart locations of the different islands of Hawaii. read more

This place is ALWAYS crowded! ALWAYS. But, then again, the location is not the best. Not to mention, there's the Walmart return department, Walmart registers, a McDonalds and a bank inside. That being said, it's in the middle of town... pretty close to the airport. That means, people coming in are probably going to choose this place to swoop on some sunscreen, while others leaving are probably looking to swoop on the cheaper souvenirs. Either way, parking and actually getting in is half the battle. The last time I was here, I wanted to get a cheap digital camera. I practically pushed and shoved my way all the way back to the electronics department. There I found it, my little CoolPix waiting just for me - locked in the case. Hmph. I thought to myself, it shouldn't be a problem to find someone with a key considering that I had absolutely no questions about the camera. Well, it was actually pretty hard. It took about 15 minutes to actually have the camera brought up to the register for me, and another 15 in line to pay. I mean, I often waste time... but who wants to waste 30 minutes in Walmart on Maui when the weather outside is amazing? Not I. Needless to say, I walked out with my camera. I wish I could give this place a negative stars!! The service was horrible the customer service was horrible. We waited an hour and fifty minutes for a manager with any kind of common sense to fix the price on a item. An item they priced wrong an item that Walmart employees put on the shelf with the wrong price. First we started at the jewelry department one manager came gave us the price and entered it in. It didn't work. Then we are sent to the electronic department " where they are able to for sure take care of it". We waited an entire hour at the counter having to call 2 other managers to the back to override still no luck! We are then walked to the customer service counter and called yet another manager we were then greeted by the queen of the incompetency OLA. A large rude and disrespectful woman, who obviously hates her job and life. She choses to take things out on her customers who need help fixing situations she instead was to frustrated with her life and easy job to fix the situation and got an attitude with my wife cussed at my wife then walked away. We then had to get ANOTHER manager to come and try to fix the situation. All in all a horrible experience. Being on an island with very limited options, Walmart is in a prime position with very little competition (mostly from Costco - but both offer a different shopping experience). Perhaps it's this idea that buyers have no other options ("either shop here or you cant get it") that causes Walmart, its management, and its employees to make a complete effort to provide zero customer services. I was shopping in the cake mix/coffee section while waiting for a worker to check if you had mini disposable loaf pans in stock when I experienced the laziest worker to date in this aisle. I'm trying as I type this to get a name, but her name tag is flipped so I don't know who she is. She blatantly put brownies from her "go back" wagon in the wrong home among other things. I watched her for at least 15 minutes when the worker helping me came back with the items I needed in hand (awesome!)! The lazy workers name is Luna. walmart is the spot to get the things you need but just be aware they're not well stocked, so many times they were out of toilet paper for almost a week same with their shampoos, just in case you might want to make sure you have a backup store. i love to shop there because most of the stuff i need is cheaper then target (hate to say that). I bought 4 new tires from Walmart online figured I would take my truck to the Walmart tire center to get my tires put on. I called and was told 1 1/2 to 2 hour wait. So I go there, wait 45 minutes for the guy to slowly walk over and say: maybe they would be able to change my tires in about 7 hours, in an extremely rude tone. Maybe he could of addressed all of us waiting outside in the sun at the same time. He clearly does not give a crap about his job nor about anyone needing to bring their vehicle in.
