The guy at the register just charges your items so quickly, charging you for more items than you bought, and for the pricier items. Watch him like a hawk. He did this to us twice. We had to void out the sales and make him ring up the items one by one and slowly. The prices are very reasonable if they charge you for the right item and the grocery are very fresh. They have great selection of fresh local fruits. The only reason I go here are for the fresh local fruits and the vegetables. read more

I bookmarked this produce shop and it was our first stop after arriving in Maui. I picked up some apple bananas and a papaya. They were so good that I wanted to go back again to pick up more fruits during our stay in Maui. What I miss most about Hawaii are the local fruit, which I didn't quite appreciate while living in the islands. We drove back today, even though it was about an hour away from our hotel. I got more apple bananas, more papayas and some dragon fruit to try. I saw a woman purchasing a bunch of the dragon fruit, so I figured they must be good, even though I've never tasted them before. We stopped at a different fruit stand while driving today, and I noticed that the prices at Rowena's were better. They also sell other items like dried spices, fresh herbs and veggies. It's worth checking them out if you're in the area. Note that there's a sign that says there's a $.25 charge when using a credit card for purchases less than $10. However, they added $.75 to use my credit card even though I spent more than $16. I found out after they ran my card. read more

If you are searching for fresh coconuts check out this place! Way cheaper than other options around the island and the coconuts were HUGE filled with a lot of coconut water. After we drank the water they were so kind to open the coconut up for us to eat the inside. read more

Rowena's specializes in Filipino foods and ingredients, also sporting a mini market. I'm always on the hunt for a bargain and like to support local so I finally popped in to check them out. THE STORE: They're located in a tiny shared warehouse space at the corner of Hana Highway and Wakea Avenue across the street from the Jim Falk car dealership. Parking is plentiful. EXPERIENCE: Other than the heat, the thing that hits you is the strong smell of fruits that are on display. While they all looked fresh, the overbearing scent of very ripe or even rotting fruits in the hot space was not very inviting. If you've ever been to the Maui Fair and went into the War Memorial Gym to the Better Living event on the third day and walked near the decaying fruits and swirl of fruit flies - that's how it was, LOL. To be fair, if you're in the market for dragonfruit, they sell it here! I was on the hunt for some fresh veggies and their selection was very minimal. They have a small beverage refrigerator minimally stocked with hand-packaged veggies but nothing that I wanted, such as snow peas and lettuce. The appearance of it all and visions of human-handling especially during this pandemic just turned my stomach. Other items for sale were Filipino and Asian spices, ingredients, snacks, a few familiar canned goods and refrigerated/frozen foods. An odd for-sale item I noticed were quart-sized Ziploc bags containing frozen chicken wings, like they bought a big bag at Costco and repackaged them in unmarked bags. Eh, no thank you. TIP: Unlike other Filipino markets on the island, these guys do not serve any hot foods to-go. OVERALL: Strong on the ingredient & fruit offerings, not so much on the veggies. read more

I happened to be dropping something off at Picture It Framed the other day and noticed this store next door to it. I had no idea that there was a store here all this time, but what caught my eye was all the produce near the entrance. I popped in to see what types of products they had and was pleasantly surprised that they had a lot of fresh produce and at very very affordable prices. They had a wide variety as well from your typical cabbage, onions, carrots, to dragonfruit, rambutan, sage, lemongrass, & dill. By the entrance they had a ton of spices available like nutmeg, coriander, licorice, fennel, & cayenne just to name a few. Most bags were just $2.00. $2.00! Nice! While most of their products cater to Asian cuisine (majority are Filipino and Thai products from what I could tell), they do also have your basics like ketchup, salt, mayonnaise, etc. Rowena's is definitely worth a stop before heading to big box shops like Costco, Whole Foods, etc. You can find them across the car dealership in a big warehouse looking building. Parking is a little tight, but should be easy to find a spot. read more

I found this little market thanks to other Yelpers... Thank you. Locally grown fruits and vegetables sold in a little shop in the business area of Kahului. Nothing fancy, but easy to find and lots of parking. The prices were good and it was a lot of selection. I can see myself stopping in here often. They also carry a lot of packaged food items imported from other countries. There is a little Coconut Café upfront which probably is busier in the mornings. Besides coffee and bagels they were also selling whole coconuts for drinking. read more

Rowena has her own farm, but gets produce from other local farmers. She used to be at Maui Mall until Whole Foods moved in. After moving around over the years she leased a space in this warehouse on Wakea near Hana Highway. Because of its easy access it is more convenient than most supermarkets. You can find a variety of different bananas, Kula onions, corn, sweet potatoes, etc. if they don't have it on stock, Rowena will try to get it for you from one of the other local farmers. Because of the great service, reasonable prices, and fresh produce this is a weekly stop for me. read more

On a return trip to Maui, this will be my first stop after leaving the airport. Really fresh produce, small packages of reasonably priced spices for your vacation stay and super friendly folks. Our 8 and 5 year old grandchildren had 'drink from a real coconut' on their list for this trip. At Rowena's Produce they have fresh coconuts trimmed and ready to have their top chopped off to drink the lovely juice/water inside. Pay attention to what these people charge you because they will try to overcharge. I used to come here for years. They had what I needed, were affordable, didn't charge tax, and were friendly (the elderly sweet lady in particular). However, a couple past experiences and my last one with the same worker will make my frequenting this establishment come to an end. Whenever there were would be a very short heavier set woman working at the counter she would always overcharge me. She would get noticeably upset but would usually correct the price when I would tell her. This last time she tried to overcharge me for eggplants. The price was 1.99/lb and I saw her charging me 2.69/lb. After I told her about the 1.99/lb price tag they had out, she yanked it. I was over it so I put the eggplant back. Boy was she mad. Then all of a sudden they started charging tax. I guess she wanted to "win" in this exchange. I asked her when they started charging tax. She replied saying "OF COURSE" which did not make any sense. The sweet older lady who used to work there isn't there anymore so there really isn't any reason to attempt going back with this rude person always at the front overcharging people. This ended up working out though because I was able to get three 3lb bags of eggplants for just $10 just down the street at Maui Greens Market. read more

This is one of my favorite places to buy produce because it's very affordable, fresh and local. I usually come here first then go to Whole Foods or some where else to buy whatever I need. But I find I can get so much for a great price. Their locally grown greens and herbs are wonderful. Plus I love the Molokai purple potatoes. Awe and the local lemons and limes too...I could go on about all that I love here. Most things here are locally grown on their farm in Kula. The label notes where items are grown and you can always ask if unsure. The staff is very friendly and willing to help. If you want something you don't see, just ask as they might have it in the back. Say you want $1 worth of cilantro instead of the $2 bag...just ask and they'll give you a smaller quantity. They have a location on S. Kihei Road in the Aloha Market which is closer to my house, but the selection is not as good. This main location has be most and seems to be stocked often. This is a great stop for visitors and locals when you're in town. They do accept cards as payment too, so not limited to cash only. read more

Definitely more reasonably priced than supermarkets. When I was there yesterday, they had papayas 3 for $4 but they were ripe and had to be eaten right away. Pineapples were $3.75 so Costco price of $2.99 was better. A good place to pick up small amount of spices and definitely worth checking for vegetables after you do the Costco run. This is located across from Hyundai dealership a few blocks from Costco.
