They opened the fitting room for my sister and five minutes before the store was closing they started harassing my sister and parents to leave the store because it was closing. We were not planning on staying longer than the closing time but they were kind of making us feel super bad and made us walk all around on the outside of the mall to our car. The old lady was especially rude and I would even go to say they were both racist. Kept repeating the mall is closed like we didn't understand English. Super disappointed and never shopping at the Mic Mac Hudson Bay because of this experience.

While they try to boast designer…read morelines, most of their product is very plain or dated despite still having the elevated price tag for Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, etc. They may not realize that most of the same brands are available at Winners (down the hall) at a lower price for more interesting items. My visits to The Bay are almost exclusively for their perfume and cologne department. They have one of the widest ranges I've ever seen (making up for my first unsuccessful stop at Shoppers), the staff knows their stuff, and just about anything comes with random gifts-with-purchase that make nice add-ons to your planned Christmas shopping.

Still, yesterday I had the good fortune of having not one, not two, but THREE positive interactions with friendly, polite, and helpful staff! I could hardly believe it. Not an eye-roll, not a heavy sigh, not a dismissive point in a vague direction - I actually received real, live customer service. So, while Walmart may still not be my jam, I have to give credit where credit's due. The folks I talked to knew exactly where the obscure items I was looking for were hidden and actually walked me there instead of sending me on my way. Plus, I was rung through by someone who was genuinely nice and knew better than to hit me with a 'hon' or 'dear.' No complaints for once!

Mic Mac has a food court and plenty of specialty food places including Jugo Juice, Perks Coffee, Orange Julius, A&W, Starbucks, and Tim Horton's (yummo!). We did some shopping here recently to check out some stores such as HMV, Old Navy, Eddie Bauer, Sony Style, and The Source At Circuit City. MicMac is a good size mall, but it was very crowded inside on a Saturday morning and we had to park way out in East Bumf--k. Anyways, we spent a good 90 minutes shopping here. I picked up a few things on sale at Old Navy and Winners and had a good cup of coffee at Perks. Next stop for us was, Downtown Halifax for an afternoon of chill time.

Out of the two HRM Costco locations, I prefer this one for a couple of reasons. I will drive the extra miles even though Bayer's Lake location is much closer. The Dartmouth Crossing store is a newer build than Bayer's Lake. I find the aisles are bigger and easier to move around when the store is busy. The whole set up of the Dartmouth Crossing shopping area with wide, double lane streets and dedicated entrance/exit ramps is much better laid out than Bayer's Lake. Bayer's Lake was the city's first foray into a dedicated big-box shopping district. in the suburbs. Dartmouth Crossing learned from their mistakes. We usually seem to make Costco runs on the weekend; when lots of other people have the same idea. Shopping in crowded stores with stressed out people is like nails on the chalkboard of my soul. So being able to get through our list quickly and in and out of stripmall purgatory is paramount. Like any Costco, this store is a great place to stock up on the family necessities. After going through two in diapers I can say with authority that Kirkland baby wipes are the bomb and cheapest to boot. The Costco tire centre is the cheapest place in HRM to get your oil changed and has the lowest price on the big name tires. I can't leave out their dogs. At $1.50 for a drink and a gigantic hotdog it must be cheapest lunch in HRM.

As we exited, the receipt checker looked at our receipt and said, "Just four items?" My husband politely greeted him, but he didn't respond. Instead, he asked sharply, "What's in the bag?" and began inspecting it thoroughly only to find it empty. What hurt most was what happened immediately after. A white customer ahead of us was barely glanced at; their receipt was checked without any scrutiny, and they were waved through without the employee even looking into their cart. The contrast in treatment was glaring and painful. As brown customers, we couldn't help but feel that we were being singled out and treated with suspicion purely because of how we look. The irony is that the employee himself appeared to be an immigrant, which made the experience even more disheartening. Costco promotes itself as a welcoming, respectful place for everyone. Yesterday's interaction did not reflect those values. No customer should be made to feel humiliated or judged based on race or appearance. I truly hope Costco takes such experiences seriously and provides better training to ensure all customers are treated with equal respect and dignity.

Although it's technically not the closest grocery store to my home, it's close to a number of other places that I frequent (library, Dollarama, etc.). - 24/7 hours are great! - Big parking lot. - Large selection, especially for ethnic foods. I find this very hard to come across in HRM. Good selection of housewares, health/beauty, and seasonal products as well. - Decent prices and frequent sales/coupons. - There's usually a rack full of reduced-price produce lurking somewhere, of which I am particularly fond. Cons: - This place never, ever sleeps. Ever. Convenient hours means constantly busy, even in the middle of the night. - Parking lot is a nightmare to deal with, especially on weekends. Neither motorists nor pedestrians pay attention to what they're doing or where they're going. - The public washroom is quite possibly the most revolting washroom I've ever set foot in. I lodged a complaint about it some time ago but no one bothered to follow up on it. - Check-out experience is usually slow. If you need something, this location probably has it. Worth trying if you haven't before.

I can't believe that I haven't written a review for Biscuit General before. It's one of those…read moreplaces that I go into browse quite regularly but haven't bought anything before. Dang budgets. When you first enter the store you'll find yourself faced with tables and tables of adorable nick nacks and homewares to browse though - so many cute mugs and beautiful candles! One day I dream that my home will be filled with them. They've also got journals, books, even a kids gift section. Further back you'll find clothing - men's is on the upper level and women's on the lower. They've also got a killer jewellery section (which is where I've found myself most often drooling over the rings and earrings). I never look closely at the clothing because I don't want to tempt myself (out of my price range), but just glancing at the racks I and tell there are a lot of cute things that I hear are really great quality. From the little bit of browsing I've done the sizes are all pretty small...whomp whomp. In the men's section you'll find wallets, shave kits and some really fun socks in addition to the standard clothing fare. Don't miss out on the back section behind the men's clothing where the sale stuff is! They've always got a good selection of sale things. I really love the idea of shopping at Biscuit General, but unless it's some of the smaller items I just don't have the budget for it. It can get very pricey very quickly. That being said if you have more room in your budget definitely give Biscuit General a shot - it's definitely a local gem!
