Typically, and admittedly with some big box store prejudice, I generally consider myself a two-star reviewer when it comes to your average Walmart. I make no secret of considering its maze of aisles my own personal hell on earth and I generally enter fight-or-flight mode as soon as I pull up in the parking lot. Still, yesterday I had the good fortune of having not one, not two, but THREE positive interactions with friendly, polite, and helpful staff! I could hardly believe it. Not an eye-roll, not a heavy sigh, not a dismissive point in a vague direction - I actually received real, live customer service. So, while Walmart may still not be my jam, I have to give credit where credit's due. The folks I talked to knew exactly where the obscure items I was looking for were hidden and actually walked me there instead of sending me on my way. Is it just me.. or... do we ALL have this feeling when we enter a Walmart: "Ugh I don't want to come in here... But I need some socks... But it's too big for its own good... But they're on SALE!... But it's everything I despise in a company... On TOP of already being cheap... They don't even treat their own employees correctly..." We have this love hate relationship right? I mean on one hand you want to go in for the cheap prices and to see those famous "only at walmart" people that hang around... but... do we really want to support a business that has so many controversies?! Yes.. yes we do. Because no matter how busy it is... or how much negativity we hear... we go back because 1) it's cheap and 2) EVERYTHING is in here in one go. Car shop, Seasonal, hunting, fishing, animal feed (including outdoor bird feeders), beauty, pharmacy, optical, electronics, crafts, books, party supplies and, most recently, A PRODUCE AREA. A BAKERY AREA. MEATS AND DELI! but ughhh the store is SOOOO massive now. Sure they were always big but now they are even dirtier than before and so... cold... so... UNAPPEALING. I DO like how they have express LANES (like 10 of them), self-checkout booths and regular lanes. I find that quite nice. I DON'T like how they have a pathetic organic/natural source section. How can you have that big of a store with that many parking spaces and only have three shelves dedicated to this? Maybe most Walmart people don't shop for this type of food but I know that superstore and sobeys are booming with this business. So. As much as I DON'T want to go Walmart... I'll be damned if I'll go somewhere and buy lipstick for $10 when I can buy it here for $3. And scr** you Walmart for always having cheap white socks that I need cuz I can't be bothered to go elsewhere for it. *grumbles* Just take my money and let's not talk about it. read more

Typical Walmart, they removed the self check-outs and put in an express lane for 1-10 items that moves very quickly, there are about 8 cashiers working this line. Watch the food items, I've found expired product on the shelves. read more

Oh Wal-Mart, why do I love thee so much? I frequent Wal-Mart quite often, sometimes just for something to do, to "browse." Their sales are usually pretty good and they sell some items cheaper regular priced than the grocery store for example. The one section I usually do not buy from for myself is the clothes section (with a few exceptions) - the quality is just too poor to justify spending the money for it, unless it is like 75% off or something. My boyfriend has a habit of buying things, changing his mind, and then returning it because he can no longer justify spending the money on it (ex. an XBOX 360 game, vaccuum, humidifier, movies, BBQ etc, to name a few). Don't get me wrong, we are not the type that use an item for a period of time then decide to return it, our items are unused when returned -but we all know Wal-Mart accepts returns basically no matter what (within the return time frame) and the return line is usually pretty long. I've heard the Wal-Marts in the states are epic super centres. My parents said the one in Maine took them 2 days to completely explore, literally a one-stop shop. I would love to experience a super centre at least once, but I still like to support other businesses and local places over buying absolutely everything from Wal-Mart. read more

I am reviewing the Walmart vision center. I called to make a contact lense fitting appointment and got in quickly. * 2 days* It was only $15 which covered trial lenses and a sample lense solution and case. Also I could try as many different brands if I needed to find the right ones. The Dr. Suggested a brand that I have used before, and they were comfortable immediately. The Dr was super nice, and friendly. He ordered my lenses for me , as well as another trial pair as the ones he had in office to try where a bit weaker than my prescription. The price was the same as ordering from those online places. I was very happy with my visit ! read more

We stopped in here while we in Dartmouth to pick up a few groceries. Wow! I was really impressed with the size of the grocery department, particularly the fresh produce and the large number of aisles full of stock. What I love about the produce is the good quality, variety, abundance and low prices. You can't beat that! I like to cook from scratch, and I can find everything I need here to make my meals at Walmart. read more

Ohhh Walmart. What can I say about you? You have stuff... I need stuff. And you are relatively inexpensive... which leaves me with more money for shoes and purses. Win, Win right? I get the need for value priced items, it makes sense to shop wisely. Is walmart the cheapest for everything? No, but on the whole they are very competitive and they have the varied selection that a lazy shopper like me wants. So, this location is convenient for me - and is within Dartmouth Crossing which allows me to shop elsewhere too. A big plus, so I don't have to drive around he!!'s half-acre to find stuff. The store is large and for the most part tidy. Lots of cash's open (although I do miss the self checkout - see Sobey's review for my comments on that). The selection run the gamut from olive oil to tires and everything in between. While it isn't a supercentre, it doesn't lack for much. The staff are nice and usually visable. But I don't have occassion to call on them very much. I go, I buy, I curse not shopping local all the time. But if I can get coconut and tide at the same spot, and perhaps a pair of socks.... Say what you want about Walmart, it's cheap and convenient, even if I usually leave with a film of shame covering my soul. The evil corporation gets a bad rap for what it can do to small, community-based local businesses. However, in my pre-career days with limited funds, I developed a liking to value, and Walmart has it. Heck, their brand even says so. I still enjoy not spending more than I need to for conventional items, and that's why I often go there to find what I need for a better price. As much as I would love to spend hundreds on a one of a kind hand woven rug, I really just need a $20 one to throw on the floor to catch the crumbs and collect cat hair. As much as I miss the sketchy feel of the old Penhorn Walmart, the new DXing location is a lot bigger, as well as a lot cleaner. Because of it's massive size, I know I can find pretty much anything I need there, from linens and small kitchen appliances to flip flops, eggs, and pie. Their seasonal section is also a great place to stock up on holiday decorations on the cheap. We picked up enough stuff to moderately spook out our yard (and my work cubicle) for Halloween for under $20. Don't expect world class service. There's been many times when we've had better luck hunting down items ourselves faster than the stunned employee. However, nine times out of ten they can ring us through the cash sans problème. As long as you can swallow your pride and guilt for a little bit of shopping, your wallet won't be worse for wear for it. After all, there's nothing wrong with saving money on towels, especially if it means spending it later elsewhere on a nice designer bag. read more

Walmart's are Walmart's. It's great to save a buck or two, (in comparison to other BOX stores) sometimes $20 on something you need. The staff arent always knowledgable on where things are, or even what you are talking about. BUT thats ok. Its a relatively well laid out store, so most things are easy to find. What the Walmart's of NS are missing are the SUPER part of it...aka the GROCERY. Out west Walmart's are now SUPER-CENTERS so you can literally get everything yoyu need all in one shop. I'm starting to think ALL wal-marts are the same, 95% of them have MacDonalds in them or have one close by, the lines in all of the are long, due to the fact they have maybe 4 cashiers open during busy peaks, and most of them are slower then cold molasses moving up hill in January. Like seiously?? We ALL have better things to do then wait in line, because for what ever reason. The Jewelery Dept, at atleast 2 that i have been to it take upwards to 15 minutes for one to come and they have no clue what to do when it comes to making a chain smaller in your watch, I've done it, its super easy, and dont give me a garbage excuse saying that you dont know how. You have been working here for 15-20 Years and you don't know how to do it?? Generally I am not a fan of Walmart because of their practices. The lack of cleanliness and friendly staff is something I have come to expect from the locations I have previously visited but this location is different. I have been coming to this Walmart for a few years now and I have usually left with a smile on my face. This place is actually fairly clean and bright and the staff are actually kinda friendly:) The fact that Yeh is attached to it is just a bonus;) I plan on continuing to be a happy regular customer here. read more

Automotive Service-I called on Sat. June 24 10:00 am to get a defective tire on my car replaced.( Broken Belt}. The service person told me to come in as they were not very busy, I told him it would take me a while to get there as I was out in the country.When I arrived he said that I had a 3 hr wait and told me he was very busy,I went back in 2 hrs and was told it would be another 2 hrs wait so I left as i did not want to spend my whole day there waiting. EVERYTIME I go here, there are never any small shopping carts or baskets at both doors. I shouldn't have to walk through the entire store to get one. PLEASE get more small carts some people don't want to take the HUGE carts for a small order but don't want to take a basket there are only about 5 in circulation you need more small carts!! read more

So, I am known as one of those people that truly despises Walmart. As a company, they are awful, period, flat-out evil but that aside, I do sometimes shop at Walmart since I am poor and on a budget. I have to say, that I do find the staff friendlier than most for a Walmart and even had no issues exchanging something without a receipt the other day and honestly I was shocked at how easy it was. So, for that alone I give this location 3 stars. My complaints would be the lack of vegan-friendly selection in the grocery, as well as the beauty area. Next to nothing cruelty-free or vegan in either area. They do thankfully at least carry Silk soy and almond drinks and with the expansion of the store have finally added a few more natural, organic products such as Nature's Path granola and gluten-free products as well. I am crossing my fingers in hopes more gets added as they finish up the renovations. read more

While Walmart has a great selection of goodies, for me, it is a horrible experience to put my foot inside the Dartmouth premises. The constant shouting (intercommunication system) is deplorable. My family and I had to leave the building because of the constant "shouting" over the intercom. It is high time Walmart put a bit of dignity into their communications systems- making it a pleasant shopping trip rather than one of of audio torture. Got it! Good lads! After all, it is a trillion dollar company--no need to be cheap. How about it lads? Emulate the communications systems in Ontario-- is very quiet and nice -- because they replaced the noise monster by equipping each employees with a personal communications device-- will do us all a favor- think what your employees have to put up with all day long? why does every employee act like they've lost their best friend? They are all so unhelpful and when you ask to price match something they huff and puff as if you just gave them the worst news of their life. They do not follow the price match guarantee and it is so annoying. This is why I miss target. Staff was always delighted to help out, and price matching was so stress free. I feel so awkward price matching to the point where I get my boyfriend to do it for me. There was a time where there was an entire bin of fruit roll ups along the aisle, they said $1 a box, so I picked up about 5 of them. When I got to the check out, they came up as $1.75, when I told them that the sign said they were a dollar, they tried getting smart with me and telling me I was lying, because "the price that comes up on the machine is the price it is"... So she got a manager(or a customer service person, not too sure), for some weird reason, and she made the manager go check the bin "i claimed I saw", I showed her the bin, and what do you know, it said $1 above a bin full of about 100+ boxes of fruit roll ups. The manager said that someone put the sign up by mistake and that they were $1.75 and that they were unwilling to change the price.... Honestly I know it's a pretty small example, but I can't even remember the last time I've left Walmart happy. The produce expires far too quickly, which makes me think that they are all sprayed with really cheap pesticides. The staff never smiles, or even helps out. I ask where something is and they give answers like "frozen pizza is in the frozen section..". Walmart is great for cheap makeup and shampoo, but the produce goes bad within a day, and some of the items are so over priced...
