It's always fun to visit a Costco away from home, especially in a different country. This Costco in Halifax Nova Scotia Canada is the biggest I've ever been in. I wanted to take a ton more pictures but with my husband rushing me and the crowd of people it was difficult. I saw a jar of pickled eggs-something I've never seen in the States. Would have liked to explore more but we just ran in for 4 items and left without one of them because my husband didn't want to make his way back through the whole store again. I was craving chocolate chip cookies but they did not have the small bowl of mini cc cookies that I get in the U.S. I got the 3 pack which consisted of chocolate chip, chocolate chocolate and vanilla chocolate chip. They had a new cookie - maple pecan- that looked interesting but one pkg of cookies was enough. Check out was fast and friendly. We were here a little after 9:30 am on a Wed. Morning. read more

I had my Rav4 into Costco twice. The first time it was for an oil change which Costco completed but however created oil/grease hand marks on the interior roof of my white SUV. The second time I return and mentioned the grease marks they apologized (but I needed to clean the vehicle out of my own pocket). During the second appointment I had purchased 4 new tires and another oil change. Costco completed the tire installation and oil change but during the "Lug Torque Return" process the tire centre employee kicked and broke one of my hub caps. I noticed when returning home that one hub was off and kind of barely hanging on. I called the Costco tire centre manager who didn't take my name or details and said I need to return to have the hub cap reviewed. Dog $h!t customer service, which I'm not surprised about. read more

i was in Costco bayers Lake Halifax NS on August 30th and received the worst service by the cashier. She never made eye contact with me as she was to busy having a heated conversation with 3 other associates as she was scanning in my 23 item order. The clothing items I purchased where scanned and thrown to end of the belt. When I questioned her on her service while serving me I was told she needed to speak to the associates and she couldn't close her cash. She told me she had wished me a "have a nice day" so I guess she thought that made up for ignoring me. Worst service ever experienced in this store. RJ read more

Halifax is woefully under-served by Costco. This is obvious to anyone ever needing to find a parking space there at virtually any time, or trying to navigate your shopping cart with wonky wheels around half the population of Halifax in there at the same time creating absolute gridlock. But even though they obviously need either a much bigger store, or an additional Halifax location, I would still commend this branch for at least doing what they can to mitigate the fact that shoppers are crammed into that giant tin can like sardines (with terrible cell reception in a store that caters to businesses - go figure...) Even though the check out lines at times may resemble those scenes from zombie movies where survivors go on looting sprees, the cashiers are very fast at moving everyone trough and the management seems very responsive in assigning additional cashiers when things get hyper crazy. Their meat selections are excellent (especially their rib-eye steaks), and I love their increased promotion of healthier/alternative diet grocery products like gluten free products, quinoa etc. read more

Yay! Five Stars!! I found yummy French macarons today at Costco in Bayers Lake! They are actually made in France too. These macarons come in 5 flavours: chocolate, vanilla, raspberry, pistachio and hazelnut and cost $20 for a package of 35, which to me seems quite reasonable! They taste good too, so far I have tasted the hazelnut, pistachio and raspberry macarons. All were good and each had a different flavour which I appreciated. (Actually I tore the box right open, the minute I came in the door, for my first taste test!) I also had a good time looking at all the other new seasonal items (like Christmas chocolates and cookies) this month, and enjoyed tasting some of their delicious samples at the booths. I like going to Costco, it's a fun place. I just hope the macarons aren't just seasonal... Another thing someone mentioned to me is you can always bring something back if you don't want it, as there is no time limit on returns. Nice going, Costco! read more

Costco has come through again. I scored with a large bag of Jelly Belly's 1.1 kg of mixed kind. This is a bargain, trust me. These little puppies are expensive when you get them from the other shops downtown. This bag is only $10.00 at Costco, and right now they are tasting pretty fine. A couple of my favourite kinds are the Sizzling Cinnamon, Dark Chocolate, Pina Colada and Margarita, well there is more, but I think you get the picture. I just love these! read more

I am a big fan of Costco! I find myself lingering the isles when I have nothing else to do. If I'm bored, I hit Costco and usually walk out with $100 worth of product of more! Some of my regular purchased items are: Dish soap, chicken, chicken wings, frozen fruit, almonds, cheese, yogurt and rice. Of course, I usually find a million other things in my cupboard that come from the shelves at Costco. It's impossible to walk in there and only come out with what you went in for. One of my favourite stores at Christmas time is Costco. They have the best deals on wrapping paper, chocolates, gift baskets and toys. I usually purchase books and cookbooks there as well. Costco is a great place to shop if you have a large family. Their wholesale prices and packages is great for the large family homes. I shop at Costco frequently. Today the cashier, an older lady buy the name of Sandra, Felt I was standing too close to the person in front of me who was paying for their merchandise. Instead of asking me to step back, she brushed me like she was shooing a fly. Not please stand back or anything polite whatsoever. And to top it all off, where she wanted me the stand was back to back with the Customer at the next register, roughly an inch apart, if that. Definitely not the service I'm accustomed to at Costco. I had a horrible experience purchasing a membership at this store. Julie at the membership desk was incredibly aggressive about up-selling to the 120$ membership. When I told her I knew what I wanted and the upgraded membership was just not in my budget she got incredibly rude and frustrated with me. Who's the best at finding the shortest line? I am. It's the time of the trip I enjoy most; when the bf says: "OK go! Do your thing!" and I do! Costco is almost always packed. Especially during the evenings and weekends, lines can go for days. What was that word I used to describe another grocery store? ... Well, it CAN (but not always) be like that! When you first walk in your right in front of all the TV's, this always slows our visit right from the begining. We head to Costco for specifically 2 things; meat,and kitty litter. Costco has the best cuts of meat, far superior from Superstore or Sobeys and the 50lb box of litter here is the cheapest we have ever found. Although that is what we enter for, we often (always) leave with more then we wanted. Some items are just unrealistic for us to purchase at Costco (there's only 4 of us, me the bf and our two cats). But, for some reason I feel like more is better and wish I had a whole family just so I could buy things that wouldn't be wasted. For instance; flats of chilli, industrial size ketchup and olive oil, a pack of 100 Duracell batteries..you get the point eh.. Thing is you can spend a lot of cash, everything is in bulk and is more expensive then purchasing regular sized items (duh). Tonns and tonns of stuff on the shelves from everything to anything.You can always find cheap bestseller books, video games, gift certicates; things you wouldn't find at other grocery stores. Costco is great for prices, but terrible for customer service. After three years of their obnoxious, disinterested employees, I'm getting tired of it all. And, really, their prices aren't *that* great and they sell a fair share of junk. The food is what I'd miss the most. Great fresh chicken, unlike Superstore's stinky (already rotting) offerings. But the employees. Life is great at Costco if you don't have to deal with them. Today I had to deal with three. One was a customer service person. I stood in line for 20 minutes while only one rep had a customer. The other three ladies were laughing and whooping it up, yelling over to other employees at cash registers. I finally went up to one of the whooping ladies and she told me I was in the wrong spot. Big surprise, since there isn't one sign telling people where to go. The second employee was some bored 20-something guy leaning on a display in the electronics section. Had to wake him up to ask him where something was. Without even standing up, he points in the direction and says "over there." This guy gets paid?!?!? The cheesiest experience is always at the cash register, though. This is where you get to see huge lineups and dozens of Costco employees milling about with seemingly nothing to do (except gossip). Then, when all you want to do is pay, the inevitable sales pitch from the cashier: "Dear, you should have my greaseball co-worker here get you an Executive card. You'd be saving money." Yeah right, you're concerned about me saving money. That's why you have a huge sign in plain view (by the pickup centre) that lists the top sellers of the executive membership and the goal for executive membership sales. One caring and concerned employee even won a trip to some stupid sunshine tourist trap...because they're so interested in saving me money. Sure. All I can say is this must be a great place to work if you hate people and love to gossip and lean on displays and still get paid. Food's good, though! read more

Mike and I have a Costco membership but we tend to only shop there when we run out of paper products. While I'm not a fan of big-box stores, this one is pleasantly different. Room in the aisles to maneuver your cart! Efficiently-run checkouts! A lifetime supply of hand soap in one giant container! If I have to visit a big-box, I much prefer Costco. My only caveat would be to ensure that 18-pack of facial tissue is, in fact, a good deal. There are many items that are economically a better buy when on sale at a regular grocery store. However, so long as you do your math, you can still find some great prices on regular household items. The loooong checkout lines can seem daunting at first, but they usually go very quickly. The clerks are no-nonsense and there is someone to help load your items on the conveyer belt and whisk your cart to the other end of the cash. Just be sure to set a maximum to spend or you could wind up with a jaw-dropping total at the register (yes, those 50-pound boxes of cat litter do add up). read more

Here's how I approach any visit to Costco: with a list. I know myself well enough to know that as a single-living apartment dweller not everything at Costco is meant for me. Paper towels in jumbo packs? Great deal, but where on earth would I store them? But, I know what I like to buy at Costco, and there are some great deals that do save me money. I like the organization of the warehouse, I love the $7.99 roast chickens, and I like the frozen/packaged food sections for certain items like Quinoa and almond butter. (Have you learned more about my eating habits than you'd like to have? Probably.) The staff are always helpful, and it's great to get a sample tasting or two while in the store. I recently had my eyes opened for me with regard to Costco and as a result, this one isn't cutting it for me anymore. All the same cheap mass quantities but why do you have to be so far away, Costco? For those of you with cars, 10km seems like a breeze but for those of us on feet or bikes, hefting a load of Costco sized granola bars, pop etc isn't exactly feasible on the bus. Over the holidays I had a whole new Costco experience in Vancouver! A new location has opened right downtown and offers more of a grocery store style to shopping (same vast quantities) but also with a huge produce and fruit section. Some of the quantities even seemed to be geared towards someone other than a large family as well which was nice! Think of all the students Costco, and use some of that papered up 'for lease' space in downtown Halifax! read more

You just cannot go wrong with Costo. Sure, its the epitome of Western Culture... but who can deny the bargain of bulk within moderation. I don't go often, but when I do its usually a peek through the DVD and book section. Of course a few bulk pick-ups of my dark chocolate bars and toiletries are another bonus, and there always seems to be some sort of new, glorious discovery every time I visit. The store itself is a wee overwhelming, and i tend to get the itch a little bit. Sky-high isles go on for days, and it can be tricky to navigate if you aren't there on the regular. Holidays and long weekends are an absolutely no for me-- I'd rather pay a few extra bucks than sacrifice my life for a shopping cart. Overall, everyone can find something here. The big ol building that always greets you when entering Bayers Lake. I remember this Costco from '92 when my family came here for a year.. and it's still just as big now as it was then. For those of you who aren't aware.. You need to have a paid membership to gain access to Costco. It's $55 a year for you and your household. I usually join my parents in their travels to this bulk stock heaven. There is so much within it's walls, it's hard to cover. There is everything you can imagine grocery wise, and even some non-grocery items like fireworks, playgrounds, canoes and clothes. Of all these things, they are available in huge bulk size. 18 Hot dogs paks.. 1 Kilogram of Ketchup.. or a 5 lbs bag of flour. It's all there, and in huge quantities. The other caveat of the operation is the cash only policy. Not entirely sure how that benefits them.. but it is what it is. The aspect of Costco I enjoy most, is the small restaurant they have. It produces one of the best lunches I have had in a pinch. A boiled Polish Sausage is a delicious meal, and with a pop, it's 2 dollars.. no tax. read more

You can buy en Empire package which contains two movie tickets, two popcorn & two drinks for only $23. That's less than the cost of two tickets. A word of caution about shopping at Costco: stuff can add up pretty quickly. So, if you're on a budget, stick to your list and don't stray from it. It's easy to spend hundreds, yes hundreds, of dollars in Costco. But, you'll definitely use everything you get! read more

I had family coming down from away because my brother was having surgery. I always buy my groceries from Costco and thought I would go there after work to grab a few things. As I'm strolling along the isles, I start to realize that half my things on my list were not there... Maple bacon, Greek yogurt in the 3 pack, Kirkland Lysol wipes, memory foam pillow, and the Studs hash browns!! I was really upset to see that they were out of everything that I was looking to get! So my brother finally gets out of surgery and he's only allowed to have blended food. So I think to myself I'll grab the nutri bullet I saw at costco for him as a gift. Boy was I wrong.... There are three reasons I head to Costco. First, the free samples. You can wander around the store and essentially have a full meal and desert for free. Is this cheap? Yes. Do I care? No. Second, Costco has surprisingly delicious Hot Dogs at their cafeteria. They are all beef and very filling. If you are a fan of hot dogs, you will be a huge fan of these. Third, and most importantly, Costco sell Sabatasso's Pizza. These are, in my opinion, the best pre packaged pizza in the world (possibly the universe) and Costco is the only place I have ever seen them. This alone makes the occasional trek out to Bayer's Lake entirely worth it. I finally hit up Costco for the first time. Totally made the rookie mistake of showing up on a Saturday afternoon, so it was a little intense. Ok so... I get that if you have a large family that perhaps it makes economical sense to buy an entire case of pears, or an industrial size vat of mayonnaise. However. Being that I am a single lady and that I frequently think toast is a legit dinner choice, I just don't really get what the hype is about. Also? I didn't feel like things were that cheap. Sure there were definitely a few things that were cheaper to buy in bulk, but over all, I can't say that I was blown away by the extra jumbo added value. Anyway.. I'll go back, but only if I can continue to horn in on my friends' and family's membership privileges. read more

I was in Costco the other day, on a weekday, and it seems as though with Christmas getting closer and closer, Costco is getting much busier. I mean, Costco is almost always busy to begin with, but is especially busy with the nearing of the holidays. My greatest discoveries this trip were the holiday wrapping paper and the dog bones. For $11.99, you can buy 400 sq ft of Christmas wrap, which is more than enough to do all of your Christmas presents, and the best part about it, it's reversible, so you won't have all one wrap underneath your tree. For the dog bones, you get a 25 pack of the Beefeater, Tartar Control foot-long Dog Treats for $25... I've did some comparison shopping and these bones are sold in other stores for ~$3 each. If you are making a big purchase somewhere you can always check the price of the item here and it may be worth while to buy a membership or go with someone who has one haha. I always do a christmas gift run here and leave with a few good items and a full belly :) Currently I do not have a membership but that does not stop me from enjoying the fun food court. As the prices are so good here I always leave a little more then stuffed lol. The hotogs offer a choice between quarter pound all beef and quarter pound polish dogs which are both AWESOME especially loaded up with the condiments out front yummm. I always indulge in a poutine also, who dosnt love a good poutine and boy they are good. If you are a fan of smoked meat then their sandwich with pickle on the side is always a good choice. Like most food courts you can also get pizza slices, chicken fingers and things of that nature which are all good. Oh also dont forget free samples of food around the store hehe. read more

Very nicely priced national brands tires with good LOOKING tire warranty. But when you got a flat or tire damage that's a different story. Unless you are willing to dismount that flat tire (includes slow leaks) yourself or by third party before driving to Costco to requesting for your tire warranty services. Most likely you will sent home to wait for their appropriate proper appointment date for COSTCO TIRE service. This means probably no someday service for the customer especially if you were traveling in & out of town or across the country with COSTCO tires. Good luck with that folks ! read more

Located in the busy Bayer's Lake Business Park, Costco is like a beacon to the cars passing on the highway nearby. Although I only stop in when I have plenty of time to spend roaming the aisles, this is probably my favorite "all-in-one" mega store. I grew up in a family of five kids, so I'm used to buying foods in bulk (I confess that I have been known to say that you can never have too much canned tuna, just in case). When it comes to bulk, Costco Wholesale does it right. There are always great prices on household goods, and electronics. I even managed to pick up a copy of the seventh Harry Potter book here on the day it was released. There was an entire warehouse flat full of books, talk about large inventory. The great deals aren't available to just anyone though, Costco has a membership program, and requires you to pay a fee each year. Memberships can be pricey ($55 for a personal card), so double up with a friend who has a membership and you can get in for free. Hot Hint: As Adam mentioned, the all beef Hot Dogs that Costco serves in it's little cafe are mouthwatering. Plus if you order a Hot Dog you get a free pop (a great deal for $1.99). read more

Even when I'm not in the market for a particular item, I still enjoy researching what prices are like in the event that I need something they offer. Of course, the real reason Costco exists is because of the grocery bargains. Where else can you obtain jumbo boxes of cereal for less than the chain store prices? We love the Costco beef - aged Alberta beef, as tasty in a stew as it is on the grill. The prices on chicken and pork is equally attractive, all of them being significant less than what you'll pay elsewhere. Really, we could itemize each section but the bottom line is this: Costco offers a great variety not available in the local stores, at prices that will leave considerably more in your wallet. Cons: Their stuff isn't as cheap as it used to be. You need change to buy stuff from the canteen. The building is "dark" inside compared to most stores that are nice a bright. They don't sell a lot of good brands like Logitech keyboards/mice or UByKotex. I don't like that they use a microwave oven for some of them, only sometimes they do micriwave ovens take put all the nutrition and stuff in foods. I had my vehicle in for an oil change on October 31 , 2020 and was not pleased with the service center and the manager Rozanne. I was waiting for my vehicle and went to the counter and the employee said there was an issue with my vehicle and to come with him into the service bay. The employee asked if I had an aftermarket alarm system and I said no and he said the vehicle would not start. The employee said for me to try to start the vehicle and I immediately noticed the steering wheel was locked and the tires were not straight and well as the key was loose.. The vehicle would not start for me and the manager Rozanne was called over and I said the three things I noticed and she talked with the employee who did the oil change and came back and said no that is the way it was and the steering was loose and walked away. The other employee said to get it towed and the two front windows were down because Costco opens them in the event the keys are locked in the vehicle and the Car dealer was closed and the vehicle could not be towed without covering the open windows with a storm expected the next day. The employee that did the oil change was a new employee and he never spoke to me personally. I was asked to go home and come back to try my second key and I did that without success and returned the next day to see whether the vehicle would start. On November 02 I returned to place plastic over the two front windows and had it towed. Three days later my vehicle was ready at the dealer costing $970(ignition lock cylinder and no steering problem) along with a $150 tow charge. I believe the employee(new) jammed the key(Which is now loose) in and damaged the ignition lock and the manager was rude. Costco employees made it clear that they are not mechanics and I would not take my vehicle to be serviced at Costco Tire Center to save a few dollars seeing as it may cost you much more as it did for me. If you have had similar like experiences with Costco Tire Center make sure you write to indicate your displeasure and particulars knowing there are many of us out there. read more

A family member of ours has the membership so they took us as guests and we bought a lot of stuff. Saved money but I have to say all the stereotypes about this place are apparently true. Crazy nuts parking lot traffic. People rushing around with those big carts (Don't get in their way!) and just basically over consumption and human greed. Imagine buying a cholacate bar ok you go home and eat it well now imagine a box of 100 you going to eat more and more often right? Costco is the American way. Lol. We did not buy the bars but just about everything else. I have a two year supply of vitamin D for example no choice for less becuase more is better Right? Overall we saved money but also have a lot less space in our home. I like this place there is nothing wrong with it. I guess I just get a kick out of the culture here which is very different than a regular grocery store. read more

The only complaint I have is whenever I've been there, I haven't seen the cashiers being to friendly, just pay and go. What can you say about a Costco - they're all the same. There are some things that are way, way cheaper here, and some that are average price. Some of our favourites are the bags of organic fair trade coffee beans for something like $15 per 2kg. Holy crow what an incredible deal, and the coffee is absolutely delicious, on par with anything offered by the local roasters. We buy their organic salsa by the liter too, and lots of fruit and veg. The Kirkland clothing is hit or miss. I bought men's jeans there a while ago and they were truly awful with some weird kind of fit issue around the hips and thighs (no it's not my shape that's at issue). I'm always surprised how happy the staff seem. Maybe because they don't have to wear uniforms or something... or maybe they get paid well. Another deal is the propane - no store anywhere even comes close to their price. People also recommend buying electronics here due to the extended warranty and no questions return policy. We bought a TV here last year and while it wasn't super cheap, the price was competitive with all the other retailers even with the seasonal sales. Anyway, Costco is Costco. Some love it, and some hate it. We like saving on certain items, that's about it. read more

Optical store is not recommended. I had an eye examination here in January this year, but they didn't tell me that I needed to keep the prescription, so I lost it in the process of moving house. Today, I arrived at the store at 10 am and told the clerk that I needed a copy of the prescription, he looked very unfriendly and didn't say hello, and he only told me that I needed to wait until 12 pm, so I waited for two hours. When I asked him again at 12 pm he asked me to write down my name, and then no one gave me any feedback for the next 40 minutes. When I finally asked them why I had to wait so long, a saleswoman said it was your fault because you didn't keep your prescription. In fact, it took your staff a long time to find my prescription today because you guys didn't put it back after took it out last week. After a long wait, I broke down and cried, but they still blamed me for not keeping the prescription. But my point is, if you had told me at the beginning that the prescription was the only one that needed to be kept, I wouldn't have lost it. In the three hours of waiting, no feedback and no sorry. This is called "customer service". I have reason to believe that Costco offers not only low prices but also cheap services. read more
