History
Established in 1999.
For more than two decades, Wallaroo Hat Company, a woman-owned business in Boulder, CO, has offered a vast collection of high-quality, stylish sun-protective hats for women, men, and children. When Stephanie Carter started Wallaroo, she was sure of her purpose -- to craft sun-protective hats that make you look and feel great. Inspired by a visit to Australia -- where the threat of skin cancer has long been understood -- she wanted to share that awareness far and wide. Her dedication to this effort is the driving force behind both the design of our hats and our involvement and contribution to philanthropic efforts within the community.
Meet the Business Owner: Stephanie C.
Stephanie C. has been entrepreneurial since a young age and starting Wallaroo was no exception. She was a pioneer in the sun protection industry by introducing hats with a UPF rating of 50+ long before any other companies had even considered the idea. Stephanie introduced the idea of UPF rated hats to the US market in 1999 and set the trend for years to come. The majority of Wallaroo hats provide a UPF 50+ rating which means they block 98% of the suns harsh UV rays. Stephanie has partnered with various organizations around the US that provide skin cancer education, research, prevention, and screenings. She has worked with the Skin Cancer Foundation, the Colorado Melanoma Foundation, and the Melanoma Research Foundation, to name a few. Every year Wallaroo donates 1% of its net proceeds to an organization that dedicates itself to these causes.
