There was plenty of variety in our tour stops - history and art and birds / scenery / the "hairy coo" etc. The tour bus was clean and modern. The trip delightful. I guess my only other feedback would be to shorten the Whiskey stop (i dont drink) and double the time at Clava Carin stones, where I got 'high' feeling the energy emitting from ancient stones and trees. We had always wanted to ride in one of these iconic cabs with the distinctive look! We were picked up on time, the driver was pleasant and helpful but thankfully, not talkative at that unholy hour, and we felt safe the whole time. There wasn't much traffic at 2:30am so we got to the airport in about 25 minutes. Our fare was £23 and we paid by credit card. Since we were leaving the UK, I emptied my wallet of all my coins and gave it to the driver. It came out to be about £5. I know they don't expect a tip but I didn't want to carry home any change and he was helping me out by accepting it. A great ride experience overall that I will readily repeat next time I'm in Edinburgh.

I chose Edinburgh Executive Carriages (ECC) because they were listed on the Edinburgh Airport Web site. I booked a driver from the airport to our hotel through the ECC Web site. The site requires you to submit your arrival date and time as well as the number of passengers and your preferred vehicle (sedan or van). According to the site, the company will contact you by e-mail with payment instructions if the timeslot is available. Having been through this sort of thing before, I was somewhat concerned about the length of time before I'd hear back. My concern was unnecessary since I received a reply within minutes with a link to worldpay to prepay the booking. We were going to be in Edinburgh for two weeks and had a lot of luggage, so I'd requested a van because I didn't think the sedan would have enough trunk space. There was some confusion on my part because the reply email specified a Mercedes as the vehicle. After a very quick back-and-forth series of emails, ECC confirmed that it was a V-class (van) with plenty of luggage space and we'd be fine. Whole point of sharing these details is to illustrate how refreshingly quick ECC is with email communicate. 5-stars for communication. I'd been to the Edinburgh airport only once before and since I couldn't find any details on international pick-ups with ECC (they go into detail about their planeside pickup, but that's only for UK travel), I had some uncertainty about where we'd meet our driver. We found him immediately upon exit from the Customs area. He introduced himself took my wife's bags as well as some of mine and led us out the door to the van, which was maybe 100 feet from the airport exit. The van was the most comfortable van I'd ever sat in and had no problem holding all of our bags (including our carry-ons) in the back. Our driver was quite personable and during the 15-20 minute drive to our hotel, we had a pleasant conversation. He seemed genuinely happy that we were visiting Scotland and made us feel welcome from the start. When we arrived at the hotel, he unloaded our bags and helped us inside to the desk where we parted ways. I have zero complaints about ECC, their staff, or the driver. On the contrary it was a great experience and the next time I need transportation from the Edinburgh Airport, I won't hesitate to use Edinburgh Executive Carriages.

Our guide, Martin, was an excellent driver, and we enjoyed his commentary as well as the relaxing Scottish music he played along the way. I never felt uncomfortable and enjoyed all of the stops. I highly recommend this tour! Incredible scenery! Amazing history!

They were prompt, organized, and did a great job managing a large group of 50+ tourists, keeping everyone on schedule so we could see all the sites in time. They struck a perfect balance between being flexible and being firm about making sure everyone respected each other's time. We were very lucky to see the steam train running, and it was only about 10 minutes later than our guide predicted. The only downside was the food options at the stops -- they really weren't great. I'd recommend either packing your own lunch or loading up on snacks at the first stop during breakfast. Other than that, it was a wonderful tour with great guides and excellent timing. Highly recommended!

To be fair we did a few day trips with them and they were fine, but our small group (16 people) 4-day Skye & Jacobite Train From Edinburgh tour with Kenny Kirk as our driver and guide was far and away the best experience of our 14 day trip! We got off to a bit of a rocky start, as our taxi failed to show at our hotel, so we had to hoof it in the morning rain from the West End to stash our big luggage and make the meeting point on time. But we were warmly greeted upon our arrival, got coffee sorted, loaded into the coach, and we were on our way. What an adventure! After introductions the first thing Kenny asked was, "Any special requests from the group?" and nearly everyone shouted "Fairy Pools!". Even though the Fairy Pools was not on the official itinerary, Kenny made it happen, while keeping the rest of the itinerary highlights intact. Bonus stars for passenger accommodation! As a guide, Kenny was phenomenally engaging, highly knowledgeable and super personable. He is a treasure trove of fascinating Scottish history, and somehow managed to keep the events and timelines linked together in an easily digestible way. Kenny is a born storyteller, brings his own custom soundtrack to accompany his stories, and if you're lucky enough to have him on your adventure, you are truly in for a treat! What better way to spend a morning in Edinburgh than with an 1100 whisky tour and tasting?…read more Yesterday we visited the Scotch Whisky Experience, where we sampled five drams while learning about the journey from barley to bottle. The highlight of the tour's introduction is a wonderfully immersive 3D presentation that puts you inside the story instead of teaching a lesson. We also had the chance to wander through Claive Vidiz's extraordinary whisky collection. With nearly 3,400 bottles and some dating back to 1897, it's a fascinating snapshot of whisky history and one of the most impressive collections anywhere in the world. As for the tasting, Nc'Nean stole the show. As a woman-led distillery with a strong sustainability focus, it's doing some interesting things and producing an excellent dram to match. Smokehead, on the other hand, landed firmly at the bottom of our rankings. Its bold, smoky profile might have its fans, but we aren't among them. The woman next to me said it "tasted like the London dungeons" and she wasn't wrong. A great experience overall, and a reminder that Scotland's national drink is as much about heritage and storytelling as it is about what's in the glass. Slàinte!

Highlights of the tour were some of the art and presentations they have on the history and making of Scotch. I also really enjoyed how they gave you a sheet that shows examples of some common tasting notes you can expect from each region. I learned that Islay Whiskey was my favorite region to sip from just because of how smoky their Whiskey can be. I had a great time. After the tour they give you an example of each region so you can compare and contrast. On top of everything, the people working there were very enthusiastic and friendly. If we ever came back to Edinburgh I might even want to go again just because of the fun experience.
